Sunday, I woke up at 4am and didn’t get back to sleep until nearly 7, so it was an unusual morning. It rained hard during the night. I’ve been doing the normal blog visiting, and some household chores. I did finish up the menu plan for this week.
Monday, I slept well enough and walked Lulu before breakfast. The neighbor, her brother and Abby were out and walked with us. Then I mowed the backyard since it’s going to rain every day this week, the endings of Hurricane Debby. I followed up with doctors and pharmacy for RX renewals for my daughter.
Tuesday, we managed to get out for a walk before the rain hit, Lulu, my daughter and I. The rain will keep the temperatures in the 80s this week and maybe even 70s! In the afternoon, I went out to go get a few things and the car said it was unable to charge and wouldn’t shift into gear. I tried to get some advice on the Chevy Volt facebook page. Then I called the dealer and made an appt for first thing tomorrow, and called AAA to tow it. My neighbor agreed to take me to get my daughter’s RX. When we got back, the tow guy came but he didn’t have the right kind of tow truck, a flat bed is required. The next guy called and I asked him and he also did not have a flat bed. Finally, got the right truck about 7pm as I was just finishing a batch of food for Lulu.
Wednesday, after some heavy morning rain we had a quick break as the neighbor took us to the appt. Of course, the car dealer called me twice while we were with the doctor. One was a sales guy trying to have me get a new car. Grrr. Next was service letting me know it was the BECM and they have one in stock. I called back later and he confirmed it is a warranty repair. If I was out of warranty it could run as much as $10K as it’s the main battery modules. They expect to be finished today or maybe tomorrow. If it had to happen, I’m glad it was when I was at home (not out driving somewhere) and before the warranty was over. I’m trying to calm down and not fret over another broken thing! I wrote a review and finished edit and scheduling of some others.
Thursday, it’s steady rain now. Lulu hates it. I had the morning to do basic computer stuff and check on the car. In the afternoon, the rain stopped for a bit, just in time to go to 2 med appts and do a pickup at BJs. When we left and came back home, Lulu’s face was in the window next to the front door. So cute. I did get another BBNYA entry read and scored. My daughter wanted some to-do list notepads. I couldn’t resist this one titled Adulting. It has all the important categories like “Errands I Can’t Avoid Anymore,” People To Contact Reluctantly,” “Didn’t Set Anything on Fire,” Wore Pants, Ate a Vegetable, Matched My Socks, etc.
Friday, the air is wet but it isn’t raining. I walked Lulu on the medium route to the pool. The dealer called and my car is ready! A few of the settings I need to change to where I like them, and all my electric history / gas mileage history is gone. I picked up some Rx for my daughter on the way home.
Saturday, it’s a hot day and I’m feeling lazy. I’ve been visiting blogs, writing and editing reviews, and setting up posts. This next week looks like it will be 80s rather than 90s with north winds the first 5 days. We also only have one medical appt which is a telehealth one. I have lots of paperwork to do this week and hopefully no more repairs.
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Reading Reality. These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):
Thanks so much to Minotaur Books, Berkley.
(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)
I bought got the Allen Esken’s audios for $5 and the Colin Dexter for $3 to finish up some series where I own the rest.
Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.
I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.
I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

I’m glad your car was fixed pretty quickly. Our temps are going to be much better this week, low 80s and maybe even high 70s. I love the To Do list! And Lulu is looking cute as ever😁
Thank you Tammy. Your weather sounds great!
Rain and car break , you had quite the annoying week Anne!
Thank you Sophie. The car break went more smoothly than I could have hoped but it’s still annoying to have another broken thing to handle. The rain is good because it brings down the heat. Although the grass is really growing and will need mowing if I can find a time when it’s not raining.
Sorry about the car problems and the rain. I see you have many new books, though.
I usually wake up at 2:30 a.m. and try my best to get back to sleep till at least 4 a.m!
Thanks for visiting! 4 AM! I used to read and go to bed then, that’s early to get up. I do get the best books. I’m thankful the car was fixed relatively quickly and without cost. The rain we need so I don’t mind it at all.
So, my husband is a mechanic, and a couple years ago he and I had a discussion about a lawsuit regarding the BECM on the Volt’s! Apparently, it was a big deal because one of people to spearhead the lawsuit was a former engineer who worked on the Volt. It was a big to do in the auto world. Glad yours was still in the warranty period. I’m glad the hurricane didn’t cause too many issues for you-the rain has been crazy in some places.
Have a good week!
Thanks Samantha. yes there was some kind of Volt lawsuit or something. They extended my warranty to 15 years, send me a letter a few months back, but it was still on the original warranty until 2025 so I would have been covered. The biggest thing was during COVID and stuff they just didn’t have the parts which they also seemed to not plan ahead to have any. The rain scared my neighbor but nothing here was a problem.
I never thought about what happens when an electric car breaks down! So glad you were still under warranty too. Glad it seems like your daughter is doing better this week. Poor Lulu, my dogs hate the rain too. It was so nice and cool, and we’re supposed to have some rainy days at the beginning of this week. I always want the rain on the weekends during the school year so I can sleep in, lol. I also love that To-Do list notepad! I love having those on my desk at work, even with having a planner, it’s nice to be able to check little things off like that. Have a great week!
Thanks Lisa. My daughter is doing better. I hope it continues. I was feeling overwhelmed between the car and the appts but now with some time this week and maybe even some cooler weather I feel more energy. I use old pieces of paper for my todo lists and draw a grid, but my daughter wanted some preprinted ones and I got a few different styles which that was the cutest.
I am so glad that you were able to get your car fixed quickly and under warranty. Those kinds of things can be so stressful. I can’t wait to read the new Kelley Armstrong book and need to see about requesting the new Kim Harrison book. I hope that you have a great week, Anne!
Thank you Carole. I knew how to handle it but yes, it can still be stressful. I’m still getting to read so many great books!
It seems we’re both having car issues Anne. I’m glad you got yours back and it was under warranty. Have a great week.
Thank you Jodie. I hope you have a good solution for yours.
Sorry about the car trouble, but that’s great it’s under warranty. Often, for me, it ends up being a month past the warranty and that’s frustrating (and costly).
Hope you enjoy your books and have a great week!
Thank you Yvonne. yes it was great it was still under warranty.
I guess that’s one thing to look forward to at the tail end of a hurricane, lower temperatures due to the rain. I’m glad it wasn’t more than rain that you had to deal with.
Sorry about the car issues. I hope you have a great week and thanks for stopping by my blog!
Thank you! It made for a disruptive week but this week ahead looks quieter. I hope.
Sweet Lulu💜
Those are some major freebies. Hope you enjoy. And I put those Esken books on my wishlists. Have a great week!
Thank you. Everything Allen Eskens writes is amazing.
That was good to have your car need repairs in your own driveway and not on a trip or errands. And, yay for still being under warranty. I’ve been loving the cooler, dryer air that came through here, too.
Have a good week, Anne!
Thanks Sophia. I don’t think cooler, dryer is quite here but coming? yes the car thing would be much worse if we had been traveling at all.
It’s been hot here all week. I walk my dog Falcor early in the morning and late at night after the sun goes down. Otherwise he goes for quick stops right in our courtyard. He doesn’t like to be outside in the heat.
Lulu doesn’t mind the heat at all but I do. With a fenced backyard, we can let her go out and she’ll come back to us at the door when finished. Of course, sometimes she just wants to lay in the grass or on the concrete patio. We never let her go alone but it’s nice she can sniff around the yard a bit and chase squirrels.
Thank goodness for warranties! I love that checklist! I can’t wait for the cooler temps this week! I’m apparently full of !!! right now. lol I hope you have a relaxing week.
Thank you Carol. The checklist just cracked me up!
You’re lucked out with that warranty! We have a Volt too and we had an issue with the charging, but it was a minor issue thank goodness because ours isn’t under warranty anymore. Nice that you got some rain, even if Lulu didn’t like it. We haven’t had rain in quite a while, but that’s normal for summer here. I need that new Kelley Armstrong! I’ll probably request it tomorrow.
Thanks Rachel. Mine is a 2017 LT, a gen 2. Is yours a Gen 1 or Gen 2? I like that I normally get 5x miles a day on electric so I never have to get gas unless we are on a longer trip. We are still getting some rain every couple days, last night at night. So I’m glad to not have to water but the grass is growing like weeds.
We’re getting more rain this week too, which is great for cooler weather but it stormed quite heavily last week and our cat did not like that either! Sorry to hear about your car troubles, I’m glad it was still under warranty and that it didn’t happen while you were out. I hope you get it back soon good as new! Have a wonderful week ahead, Anne!
Thank you. I have the car back and just need to adjust a few settings which were lost. I like that we are getting rain every few days for the lawn and garden.
Those to-do lists are hilarious! I could use a few of those myself lololol. I am glad that your car issues were still under warranty! Phew!
Thanks Erin. Right? Even if some items don’t apply exactly they are still very funny. I’m glad that even though we didn’t have the car the warranty covered the costs.
I’m glad your car was still under warranty! That repair bill would have been mind-boggling. We had lots of rain at the end of last week but Saturday was beautiful, Sunday afternoon was nice, and today is shaping up to be another beauty. Cooler temperatures have moved in behind the rain though so I’m sitting here in a sweater with a blanket on my lap. I wonder how long that will last? Enjoy your week!
Thanks Jen. I would be delighted to have some sweater and blanket weather. It is cooling down some this week.
That to-do looks fun.
It’s cracking me up, Carole.
That checklist is perfection! Love it! I hate the middle of the night insomnia. I’ve had it happen lately but thankfully wasn’t awake as long as you were. I never feel quite right the day after. So glad the car was under warranty! What a relief! I hope you’re having a wonderful week.
Thank you Katherine. The checklist cracked me up. I was glad to have the repair under warranty and not when we were traveling. We rarely travel but it would have been awful to happen on a trip.
I seem to have more and more mornings when I wake up extra early and cannot get back to sleep. My cat, Gracie, doesn’t help. I think she may be partly responsible. She’s more restless at night these days. Although I cannot blame her every time it happens. What a relief that the your car is still under warranty!
Someday I will be caught up with Harrison’s series! I hope you enjoy your reading and have a great week, Anne!
Thank you Wendy. There were just too many things on the burner last week. And the heat. This week is better so far.
I’m glad the car got fixed quickly! For some reason, I wake up around 3:30 every morning and can’t get back to sleep. I either get up and go to the gym or listen to an audiobook in the dark until my alarm goes off. I wish I could sleep!
That’s rough about the sleep AJ. I don’t have it happen very often. My daughter is up sometimes because she has to be in the bathroom but that has been going better too.
I was watching a live streamer one time and an electric car just stopped and refused to budge in the middle of Hollywood Blvd. The guy couldn’t even put it into neutral to push it to the side of the road.
I’m glad you were able to get your car fixed and that it was under warranty.
Hope this week doesn’t have ANYTHING for you that needs to be fixed or dealt with!
Thank you Jinjer. I have a lot of paperwork I’ve already tackled this week which needed to be completed. But unfortunately my daughter’s retainer is broken and they just make a new one which is $250.
thank goodness that was a warranty repair! My son’s van is at the point where repairs will cost more than the car is worth, so we are trading him cars and we’ll keep the van and get a new car for my husband instead. Last week was pretty low-key. I finally handed off the last of my volunteer notes and materials for the HS Chem Free project and took the cats to the vet.
Sounds like a great week. You will have more time with your children at college, to do your own things. Enjoy!
Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Thank you! I’m looking forward to the chat Sunday.
