Months after moving to the mysterious city of Cognito, Silver is developing her gifts as a Mage and learning how to live under new laws. She is forced to give up her old life and live in secret among the humans. There is finally hope of leading an ordinary life . . .
Until Logan Cross walks into it.
Their chance meeting leads her close to discovering the identity of the nameless Mage who once stole her light and discovered the unique power she possesses. That knowledge poses an unimaginable threat to Silver, fueling the search to find out who he is before he finds her.
Lives are at stake. Truths are revealed. And an unexpected passion ignites.
Twist by Dannika Dark is the second book in her series Mageri which follows Silver, a newly-made Mage, as she navigates the paranormal world around her. Picking up several months after the end of Sterling, Silver is continuing her training as a Learner under her Ghuardian, Justus, and his friend Simon. She is honing her defensive skills as needed, learning to control her light, and master her Unique gift while Justus and Simon work to find “the benefactor” who tortured Silver in the last book.
I’ve grown to like Silver. She is coming to accept her new life as a Mage, mourning her life as human very little. She’s strong, confident, and has a tendency not to follow instructions when given them. This leads her into a whole heap of trouble and introduces us to some new characters, namely Logan Cross.
Logan is a Chitah, a cat-like shifter who heals quickly, moves even faster, and is deadly to other paranormals. He is tasked with bringing her to “the benefactor” as a way of repaying his own debts. After a rather terrifying introduction for Silver, Logan becomes a reluctant ally. I say reluctant because he makes his feelings for Mages well-known. Together, they work with her friends in the hopes of bringing the benefactor down.
While I was on the fence about continuing this series after book one, I’m more engaged now. While Sterling focused heavily on the world-building, Twist is able to focus more on the storyline and characters. The plot is fast-paced with several twists and turns along the way. I loved learning more about Silver and the paranormal world at large and look forward to what Dark has in store for the next books.
Overall, I enjoyed Twist. It’s a fast-paced, exciting urban fantasy with a touch of romance. If you are looking for an exciting read, I highly recommend it.
Narration:
I opted to listen to the audiobook instead of reading my Kindle copy for a couple of reasons, the main reason being Nicole Poole. She is a fantastic narrator. I thoroughly enjoyed her adaptation of this book. It was easy to follow along even at my increased speed of 2.5x.

(Thank you so much for sharing!) If you can answer any of these questions, you can do so in a comment.
- Zoe is great.
- I liked Zoë (AKA Silver) overall, but I still think she’s too impulsive and acts before she thinks even knowing it’s going to get her in trouble.

Logan was a lot to get used to, but I think he is a better choice for Silver. I liked this book.
Yes the buddies I read with liked it better than the first book. I’m not sure about Logan myself yet. Thanks for sharing your review. I hope you will be able to make some of the chats, too.
This one turned out to be my favorite of the series after I reread it! Great review!
Thanks for sharing your review Mikky. I liked this one better than the first book. It’s my first read, so I’ve only read the 2.
Happy to hear you enjoyed this installment more than the first! It does sound like an original concept.
The magic system is really different.
Lillian, thanks so much for sharing your review with all of us in this post.
I listened to the Seven series first, and then the Mageri. I loved meeting Christen Poe. The new covers are pretty.
I plan to read Seven after this series.
Nice find. I am curious. Sounds like something I would enjoy
