The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly  @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.

Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.

Sunday,  a north wind and a good night’s sleep with few appts ahead,  this week looks promising. Lulu and I walked after breakfast and Abby was in her window by her front door, barking at us.   Angela and I are planning Library Love 2025, I’ve already started on the 2025 Read-along planning, and I’ve decided to change up Series on Saturday for one year.  I did the usual stuff and also the menu planning for the week.  We will be home more so I will cook more. I edited and scheduled a bunch of reviews. I read and scored a BBNYA entry.  I had my daughter take things out of her bathroom.  I scrubbed the countertop, floor and tub.  I laundered the rugs.

Monday, I did the usual computer stuff. I read and scored another BBNYA entry. I entered information into my home insurance portal with more details about my house. My daughter told me there is a crack in her retainer so that’s another med appt on Wednesday and $250 for a new one. I fiddled around trying to get the scanner to connect with my computer but it connected to my daughter’s so I just scanned and she emailed me the file.  I walked Lulu right before dinner.  After dinner, we sat in the swing outside as we often do and watched fireflies while Lulu did her business.

Tuesday, Lulu and I got right out to walk before breakfast and it was fine.  The heat and humidity are a bit lower this week with north winds.   A bit more fiddling and I got the scan working from my computer.  And I know a lot more about how it works for the future.

Wednesday,  I got a request for cardboard boxes from a post I did 10 months ago on the neighborhood Facebook page.  While waiting for the lady, I edged the driveway.  After the boxes left, I walked Lulu.  The weather felt great. We went to the dentist for her new retainer impression. I picked up a few things at Aldi and then at Sam’s Club.  When I was putting things away, the freezer started beeping. I thought the outlet had faulted but after testing it was not the power.  I made an appt for service tomorrow morning, put it on Turbo freeze in an effort to get the temperature to normal.  It could be we accidentally left it open but I don’t remember it beeping when we left or even when we got home, only after I opened the door to put a few items away.  It was new in 2021, so it is 3 years old. My previous one was 28 years old( with no service calls and 5 moves).

Thursday,  I got up extra early to see the technician wasn’t expected until 11.  The High temp alert was off and the temperature was 10F.   The time changed to 9:30 and then 10:30 so I walked Lulu.  It’s a nice day, mid 80s and reasonable humidity.  I debated about canceling, but decided to have the technician check it.  He called and we discussed what he could check.  Basically, he could only check the temp which I already did and order a new control panel which is a few hundred dollars.  Or if the compressor wasn’t working he could order a new one.  So there was no point to having him come. He told me to just set a new appt if the alarms go off again, so I canceled it.  So it cost me a bunch of stress and half a day but no $$$. I also learned a lot about the control systems on my freezer.   I went right out and mowed the front yard before it got any hotter.   The neighbor and Abby came over to see if I wanted to walk but I said we already did and I needed to finish the lawn mowing.   Afterwards I had to shower again. I studied all the different sensors I could put in my fridge and freezer to monitor the temperature where I could see it on my phone and even set up alerts.  I ordered one. Next,   I figured out which breaker turns off the power where the thermostat is so I could try to install the new Google thermostat myself. But I don’t have a small enough screwdriver to disconnect the wires so back to Amazon to order some.  I made a batch of food for Lulu.  I have a huge amount of tomatoes. The new cage I built is really working well. So I shared some with the neighbor while Lulu and Abby watched us out of their door windows!

Friday,  Lulu and I walked our usual after breakfast. We ran into the neighbor and Abby.  Then I shared more tomatoes with the other neighbor (Marley’s Mom) .  I spent too much time looking at the freezer / fridge temperature monitors all over again because I figured out that for my purposes I want Bluetooth not Wifi.  If the power is out, I won’t be able to check the temperature without opening the doors. With Bluetooth,  I can. Also I need one with batteries rather than plugin to electric.

Saturday,  I went over to the neighbor’s house to a Democratic meeting.  We talked about future canvassing and wrote postcards to neighbors encouraging them to vote and check their voter registration. I am totally into my current audiobook. I setup some posts.   My daughter and I took Lulu for a walk before dinner.

Things I Learned This Week:

OK  if I’m asking for help, I’m also going to share the cool things I learn. You may already know them but hopefully it will help someone.

This is an update on social media sharing information. This was prompted by the fact that dlvr.it is removing its free version soon.  I used it to share my posts to Bluesky and Instagram.  I am using FS Poster and it is working well for awhile now.  I use it to share my blog posts to Twitter, Instagram, Mastodon, Facebook and Threads.   I also use it to share old posts – ICYMI- 3 times a day.  I haven’t been using the Direct share because I have to add any graphics to my WordPress media library.  IFTTT only allows 2 apps in the free version.  I use it to share posts to Facebook, and also through Buffer to Mastodon.   These are both duplicates so I don’t really need them.   Buffer I use to share steals and deals to Facebook, Threads and Mastodon.   I also use it to schedule some sharing for cover reveals or  Available now type posts.  I like it because the graphics are just put into the share and not my database.  It allows only 3 socials for the free version.

Since I am losing dlvr.it I am thinking I change the Buffer to add Bluesky instead of Facebook?  I could have Buffer share posts to Bluesky instead of Mastodon ( it only allows one social thru IFTTT) and then Buffer would have the same 3 socials I share friends’ posts making that quicker.  But I lose sharing deals to Facebook.  I think some people look at it there.

So tell me – do you look at deals and freebies I post every day on Facebook, Threads and Mastodon?  If so, which of those socials do you look for it? Or does nobody look at deal posts and I should stop doing them?

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by  Reading Reality.  These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):

My grateful thanks to Macmillan Audio (2),   Mulholland Books,  PRH Audio,

(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)

I got my August First read as a Prime member.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

Chirp audio freebies.

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT  they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

  1. Sweet Lulu💜 She looks great in red!

Kudos to you for considering canvassing. I did that with my friend in 2008. Hard work but worth it. I’ll always value having had something to do with that election.

Great book pickups this week. Happy reading, Anne!

  2. I personally have zero interest in deals and promo posts, but that’s just me. We had the same situation with our original appliances, they were such good quality and lasted forever! Now I feel like manufacturers are deliberately making them cheap so they’ll break down and you’ll have to buy a new one. Your tomatoes look amazing! Have a great week, Anne😁

  3. I glance through your sale and freebie posts now and then, but not consistently.

Sounds like a busy week and bummer you had the distraction of worry about your freezer. I’ve had that same thought about older models that lasted a few decades without much trouble and the newer ones seeming to always need servicing.

    Have a good week, Anne!

  4. We rent out our house while we’re traveling. We have a great tenant but we got an email from her quite a while ago practically demanding new appliances. Not because the ones we have are broken but because they’re old. They look fine. I politely told her that we would not be springing for new appliances that are going to irreparably break as soon as the warranty expires while the current appliances work and are generally fixable if there ever is a problem. New appliances are too complicated and repair people don’t know how to fix them. I know too many people who regret getting rid of their dependable old workhorses. We haven’t heard anything else about it. I’m glad you didn’t have to spend any money on fixing yours this time.

I’m slowly listening to The River by Peter Heller and I like it. So far, I would read more books that he’s written. I’ll keep Burn in mind.

I’ve almost given up on social media because I never see posts from my friends or pages I follow. It’s all ads or “suggested for you.” I’m the admin for a FB group for people who own the same RV model we do so I keep up with that. I schedule blog posts to also post to my socials through Buffer for anyone who keeps up with me that way, but that’s about it. So I don’t see your deals and freebies.

    Enjoy your week!

  5. I’m glad to hear that your freezer is still working. I had to replace our coffee maker this week – it’s always something isn’t it? You are much more into social media than I am as I only use FB, X and IG primarily (the later two only for my book purposes) but I admire you for posting to so many locations. I love that I can share to FB when my blog posts and only need to share from the post to X. I do have a separate schedule for IG but I use Canva for that.

  6. It’s so irritating that the newer appliances don’t last as long? My appliances at my previous house lasted well over 20 years and I only updated because of aesthetics, not because they weren’t working. Here, we re-did the whole kitchen and appliances. There was no dishwasher before. Our 2yr old dishwasher is a GE Profile, not cheap, and it already has an issue. The compartment for the soap doesn’t open during the cycle, so now we just put the pod on the bottom of the dishwasher. Our 2 yr old washing machine has an issue with the barring. It works but we’ll have to replace it soon. There’s no quality anymore!

Your tomatoes! I love fresh, homegrown tomatoes! Mine haven’t produced as well this year, but I think they’ll pick up now that the weather has calmed down.

  7. I don’t look at your deals and freebies, not because I don’t want to or that I’m not interested, but because I’ve been feeling overwhelmed with too much lately and I’ve cut back on a lot of things, including social media. I’m slowly adding things back but anytime I feel overwhelmed, I cut back again, so at the moment I’m just trying to find stable ground. I’m sorry if that’s not helpful, but I hope you find what works for you with your deals and freebies! Have a wonderful week ahead!

  8. Sounds like a busy week. I hope your freezer is okay and that the thermostats and stuff you bought help you keep track of it better. Sorry about your daughter’s retainer. That’s not a fun expense when it happens. I hope you’re able to have a great week!

  9. Wow, you had a busy week! Hope this next week settles down a bit for you.

As far as looking at deals and freebies, I don’t do that much. I haven’t had a lot of time to read a lot of other blogs lately, unfortunately. I’m also trying to not add to my books pile until I read through a bit more of the ones I already have – it’s taking a while lol. I also don’t go on social media all that much anymore either. Another commentor said that all she sees is ads and suggested posts, nothing and no one she actually follows, and I have the same problem. It’s awful. That’s not what social media was supposed to be for! It’s all about what the algorithm thinks I want to see instead of what I’ve already told it that I want to see. Very frustrating.

  10. My refrigerator (which is newish) can sometimes have the door open just enough that it doesn’t cool but not enough that it sets off the alarms. I’ve had that happen a couple of times when I was in a hurry. Hopefully something like that was what was happening with yours so you don’t have to deal with getting yours repairs. I hope you’re having a great week!

  11. Hello! I’m finally getting around to blog visits. It’s been busy getting my girl ready to move on Friday. I’m also doing something I don’t normally do… I’m scheduling posts away in advance, getting ready for my trip in September.

About social media – I don’t really use it anymore and so I’m not the best person to comment on your posts. I use feedly to follow your blog (and I try to share them to Threads, but I forget sometimes). I don’t look at ICYMI posts and I don’t follow deals (from anyone). Good luck trying to figure it all out!

  12. I’m glad the freezer issue worked out for you. The sensor is a good idea. We have paired sensors for our fridge and freezer, with a unit that sticks to the door (magnetically) and displays the current, high, and low temperatures for each section. That lets us know if there has been a power outage while we were away, or a door left open too long.

The temperatures were better here last week, as well… and it has been absolutely gorgeous for the last several days. Perfect weather to enjoy our new deck.

You are so organized and tech-savvy with all your social media posts. I am not using FB as much as I was, but still look at Instagram… and I finally gave in and joined Threads. I’m not sure I should have, though. It’s a time sink. Sometimes I think I should ditch most of the social media altogether. As for your question of where I read your deal alerts, I sometimes see them on Instagram, but I admit that I don’t specifically follow or look for them. I mean, I follow you (your blog) on Insta and FB, and I like seeing what books y’all have reviewed recently, but I don’t go looking for the deal alerts on a regular basis. I mostly use BookBub for that, because I can tell it which authors I’m looking for.
