This is a new feature I developed where each month we will look at our favorite – the best – series in a genre or topic.
The topic here, by my definition, is a series with characters who are working in home improvement or house flipping. These are the ones which came to mind. I enjoyed some more than others. They seem to fall mostly into the cozy mystery or paranormal mystery genres, but I’ve got one romance series.
Since I haven’t read everything, it’s a subset of the possibilities. I’m sure I am forgetting some great authors. There are also plenty of authors I have yet to read. Please share your favorites with me in the comments, also.
My favorite HGTV style series are (in no particular order):
Fixer Upper Mystery Haunted Home Renovation Mystery Home Renovation Mystery
by Kate Carlisle by Juliet Blackwell by Callie Carpenter
House Flipper Mystery A Do-It-Yourself Mystery Hot & Hammered
by Diane Kelly by Jennie Bentley by Tessa Bailey

I’ve not red any of these but do have Hot & Hammered on my TBR.
That’s the romance in the bunch. The others have more house renovation. I particularly like the new series Death by Demo. The Juliet Blackwell series is narrated by Xe Sands so I may get to all of it eventually. The Kate Carlisle one has a romance sub plot but I’m more interested in her construction work.
Fun theme! One of my recent fall cozies was part of a HGTV-type of pair who remodel homes for their local cable show, but also solve mysteries: Haunted to Death.
yes I read the first of that series but it didn’t have enough actual home renovation and construction aspects for me. It was one of the first I tried. Or maybe I just prefer strong women, since all of these have that?
DO ALL OF THEM
yes I love home renovation!
I”ve read all of these except the Tessa Bailey and really enjoyed them! I love a home renovation book.
Thanks Katherine. I also love Home reno books and shows. The ones you’ve read are all cozy mysteries which doesn’t surprise me. The Tessa Bailey is a contemporary romance. I like having a couple genres if I can. I especially love the debut by Callie Carpenter and can’t wait for more. There were many I really enjoyed though.
