It’s the annual hunt for Sloane and her vigilante family of serial killers. Track the most cold-blooded psychos imaginable and take them down. This summer’s prey is Allan Munster, a churchgoing chicken farmer who slaughters more than fowl. The rules of the Divide into teams, devise a strategy, and make a move—the more cutthroat the better. May the best team win. The players are closing in. All eyes are on Munster. But there’s a hitch in the family sport this year. Someone might be watching them.
Brynne Weaver’s The Ruinous Love Trilogy, was probably one of my biggest surprises this year. Who knew I’d fall in love with serial killers falling in love? But somehow Weaver made it work and I absolutely had a blast with a murdery and spicy series. Love & Other Killers is almost an extended epilogue to the trilogy that sets up the crossover series The Season of Carnage.
This is a stand alone short story to the both series as August has come around once again and you know what they say…”The family that slays together, stays together.”  The year it is girls against boys to find the local serial killer and see who can put him in the grave first. May the best killers win!
It was fun to see all the couples as they maneuver the game.  While it was once Butcher against the Blackbird in their love story, this time all of the couples have come to reunite and explore their darker side. Like always, the trigger warnings were funny and accurate. Accidental cannibalism seems to play a reoccurring role in the series in new and interesting ways. And we can always say the bad guys have it coming to them.
Now while this had all the elements I loved about the series such as serial killer love, strange an crazy use of craft items and a steamy sex scene, I think to really appreciate it you would have needed to read The Ruinous Love Trilogy and have an attachment to the characters and the inside jokes. Still I was excited to see who the new series would start their story with. Sometimes killers are made and I’m very interested in seeing what Brynn Weaver can do with a new series focused on “good” serial killers.

I am so happy with the duet narration for this book and the overall series. Samantha Brentmoor and Eric Nolan do a great job and sell the dangerous and sweet of the story.  I adore Eric‘s Irish accents for all the brothers. The narrators complimented each other and really made this book so much fun. The sex scene was pretty hot for a short story and Eric and Samantha really sold it. Just a fantastic listen. Highly recommend the audio! Again!

I still need to read ‘Butcher and Blackbird’. Been sitting on that for a while now!!!
When my book BFF told me I was going to love it, she didn’t lie. Butcher and Blackbird was probably my favorite romance so far this year. Also I will never look are Orzo the same again!
The serial killer main character in romances has become quite the thing this summer. I’m still wrapping my head around that. 🙂 Glad this is a good one.
Haha…one good serial killer romance means there should be 10.
I will say that the two serial killers falling in love was more fun than I thought it could be.
I feel like I’d like to try this series some time. Glad you enjoyed this little extra story too. Great review!
