Only when the darkness falls can you see the light of the stars.
For thousands of years, the scribes and singers of the Irin race have existed to protect humanity and guard the gifts of the Forgiven. They have lived in the shadows. They have kept their secrets.
But the Irin aren’t the only race with secrets.
Ava and Malachi have found each other, but wounds as deep as theirs don’t heal overnight. While the Irin world struggles to correct the power imbalance left by the Rending of the Irina, Malachi and Ava struggle to connect their past with their present.
The Fallen may scheme, but Ava has found her power and refuses to be an angel’s pawn. And while Malachi may have forgotten his history, the scribe’s relentless search for answers leads both him and his mate to the heart of the Irin power structure in Vienna, where knowledge is guarded more closely than gold and those with power will do anything to keep it.
Malachi and Ava have survived the darkness, but will they ever discover its secrets? A powerful cabal of the Fallen may hold the answers, but to surrender them, it wants the Irin race to finally face their enemies. Both those coming from the outside, and those raging within.
THE SECRET is the third book in the contemporary fantasy series, the Irin Chronicles, and the conclusion of Ava and Malachi’s journey.
I have loved the Irin Chronicles and while this was meant to be only a trilogy, readers will be happy to learn there will be more writing about this world. The world building is very different and exciting. The settings are worldwide, but a primary location is Istanbul, Turkey and Vienna, Austria. The locations lend some spice to an already interesting puzzle.
Ava and Malachi lead us to learn more about their world and its history. Finally, we get to Ava’s father and grandmother. Jaron’s role and motives are more clear to us. Ava’s life is a microcosm of the secret which will shock the secret world of the Irin. The humans know nothing of this world and its battles.
The Secret has some happy, some sad, some action, some heat, lots of revelations and some funny. I don’t recommend it as a standalone, as is usual for me with urban fantasy. I’m too OCD to read any series out-of-order or without the rest.
I really appreciate the way Ava and Malachi’s group train and prepare and plan, even when they don’t exactly how or when the enemy will attack. They don’t just fumble around doing nothing. They research, work for information and get ready Also, they support each other wholeheartedly. I am not a spoiling kind of reviewer. The secret of The Secret is sort of triple edged sword I think. It’s the same thing in different perspectives. This is a fitting culmination to the beginning of Malachi and Ava. Happily, there will be more.
Giggle worthy quote:
“.. He, um…” She cleared her throat. “He kissed me.”
“What?”
“It wasn’t sexual.” She put a hand on his chest. “ It was after the fighting. I was in shock. And he was
… curious, I think.”
Malachi’s face was stormy. “He kissed you?”
“I didn’t kiss him back!”
“What did you do?”
“Well…” She paused, trying to remember the tumult in the cemetery. “I think right after that I
crawled over to the bushes and puked. Probably not the reaction he was going for.”

Puked?! LOL that’s not good… Yet another author I should sample.
Braine – you should! She’s an amazing author; I’ve enjoyed all her series. This one which is UF, also the Elemental Mysteries (UF) and Cambio Springs series (PNR). I can’t wait for more. Anne
