Former CIA agent Bailey Jones has spent months trying to forget her night of passion with mercenary Sean Reilly. An elite and methodical assassin, she has no room in her life for a reckless, rule-breaking Irishman, and she’s vowed to steer clear of the tempting bad boy who lured her into his bed under false pretenses.

When Sean is implicated in the robbery of a Dublin bank, Bailey knows something isn’t right. So what if she can’t trust him? There’s no way Sean would end up on the wrong side of the law. In fact, he’s stuck in the middle of a dark and dirty conspiracy that could put his twin brother’s life at risk with one wrong move. And Bailey’s life too when she agrees to help.

As the stakes are raised and Bailey finds herself torn between two brothers, the fine line between danger and desire is crossed…and it’ll take more than a killer instinct to survive.

Midnight Captive is a solid installment in the Killer Instincts series. It lets us see a bit of what is going on in their world and gives us a new couple. Is this realistic everyday life? No, but it is enjoyable to read.
The men and women in these stories are ex-military, ex-CIA, special operatives, assassins, computer geniuses, and so forth. The action and suspense are thrilling. And then there is the romance.

I love Bailey. She is so strong and capable. She’s smart and plans ahead. She also holds Sean to a higher standard than other men in some ways. Why is it women do that with guys they like, make them work harder? She is so attracted to him; she has to rationalize some reason why she can’t accept him.

Sean is adorable to me. He’s off the cuff, sexy, smart, with muscles and people skills. He has always been a capable ladies man, except with Bailey who he loves. He is tousled and improvises, and doesn’t know exactly what to do sometimes, but he really wants her. And he’s all caveman, alpha man possessive about her sometimes.

Midnight Captive was fun and sexy. The sex is a bit detailed. There are violent killings and mentions of torture. There’s some humor. We see a bit of other couples and possibly a setup for a future book? The next one is about Derek, who has been one big bad ass mystery from the beginning. I look forward to it!

  1. Lexxie – If you like romantic suspense, it’s great. It’s got the whole ex-military thing going. Faster relationships because of the crazy life / death world they have. I’m OCD so I have to go in order reading a series plus it lets you get to know the characters over time. This author does that well. Anne
