This is not exactly a Thrifty Thursday review even though it was “free” for me. It is the first thing I have read in Prime reading. I’m not sure how it works since it says borrowed, rather than owned. I read the detailed information and it acts like one book can be borrowed at a time, but I have three borrowed. So who knows? I will add it to my list of Amazon questions list to call them about this summer.
I saw this frequently on Amazon and decided to give it a try. It is more of a mystery, with some suspense, than a romance. Mercy is an FBI agent assigned to a serial killer case in a small town. A key group is the people who are “preppers”, who are getting ready to survive the end of the world (as we know it.) I actually admire those skill sets and knowledge so I liked this aspect. The beginning is confusing because Mercy is hiding her past and there is so much we don’t know.
Mercy is a competent agent. She follows leads, interviews the right people and gathers information to progress. The local law enforcement – Truman becomes interested in her and they work well together. There is very little in the way of romance; it’s the very beginning. Since this is the Mercy Kilpatrick series perhaps we will get more of their relationship in future books.
I enjoyed the book and would probably like to read more. It’s one of those series which is not at the library though, and I don’t like it quite enough to buy the future books. I don’t tend to buy many books, at all, and often not until I have read and loved them.
