Today’s friend is Tanya from Rantings of a Reading Addict.  I’m not sure how I started reading her blog but I loved the color schemes and thought she had the coolest looking setup. And it looked the most difficult, too. While I am more of a lurker than a commentor there, I do read all the posts. Tanya reads the kinds of books I enjoy.

From New York Times bestselling author, Kristen Ashley, comes the long-awaited story of Daisy and Marcus, Rock Chick Reawakening. A prequel to Kristen’s Rock Chick series, Rock Chick Reawakening shares the tale of the devastating event that nearly broke Daisy, an event that set Marcus Sloane—one of Denver’s most respected businessmen and one of the Denver underground’s most feared crime bosses—into finally making his move to win the heart of the woman who stole his.

So I am trying the Rock Chick series by Kristen Ashley as a recommendation from a friend who is going to try one of my favorite authors. Kind of an exchange. I wasn’t sure where to start. There was this prequel and then book one. I decided to do Rock Chick Reawakening first. This series has quite a few books in it, so I thought I would start out small to see if I wanted to invest the time. It is going to be a challenge, as I do not read many contemporary romances.

In Rock Chick Reawakening, we meet Daisy and Marcus. From the blurb, I understand that these two are a major couple in the series. Daisy had a rough life growing up and is happy with how she has worked her way up to being the spotlight stripper earning a ton of cash. Marcus is a silent partner in the club who has decided that Daisy is the one for him.

Then one night, Daisy becomes a victim in a horrible crime and the distance Marcus has kept comes to an end. He actively begins his pursuit of Daisy’s heart.

Daisy is pure Southern woman and at times I had a hard time imagining the high hair and the way she talked. Sometimes it made me laugh at what I thought was a bit over the top. Marcus was pure gentlemen and gave Daisy the things she needed even when she didn’t want to acknowledge she needed him. He was amazing with her. Their romance was slow and sweet. My heart melted at the way Marcus handled Daisy.

The story takes you years into Marcus and Daisy’s lives so you get to see all the ups and downs, the cherished moments. I liked that you got to see their POV even after the formation of the Rock Chicks and all the other women are in their lives. I think it sort of spanned the whole series.

Rock Chick Reawakening was a nice introduction to the Rock Chick world and I look forward to what the full novels will bring. Sometimes it’s hard to tell from just a novella. I do know I will smile fondly when I read the next books and Marcus and Daisy are mentioned.

About Kristen Ashley

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA. She nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn’t taken her first breath!).

About Tanya at Rantings of a Reading Addict

My name is Tanya and I currently run the blog Rantings of a Reading Addict where I review a lot of paranormal romance and urban fantasy. On occasion you may find a contemporary romance review or two. I have some huge addictions. Reading, pugs & crafting. I used to foster for a pug rescue until I ended up adopting too many of the babies that weren’t getting adopted quickly.

Currently my house has five pugs, 2 chihuahuas and a cat. Not to mention my husband of 24 years, 24 yr old daughter, 21 yr old son and his fiancé. It’s a full house! Good thing we moved into a new house last December!

I also enjoy making bookish and planner related things. Sometimes I’ll show a little love of my pugs in my items. You can check out some of my fun things at TD Crafts and Creations

  1. I’d read all the Rock Chick series and it is a little silly and definitely over the top but always a lot of fun.

I read this after all the other Rock Chicks and so I think I liked it more since I was really invested in Daisy as a character. I’m not sure how it would have read for me if I didn’t have the foundation of all the other books of this series.

I can’t wait to give the first full novel a try. I think having a little more time with the author’s writing would help me sink into the story better.

  2. I have yet to try the Rock Chick series. So many books, never enough time. It’s gotten better with audiobooks during drives, lunches, chores, etc. Thanks Tanya!

I haven’t read any Kristen Ashley, although I’ve wanted to try forever. I wasn’t sure where to start, so I appreciate hearing your opinion.
