This is a new feature I developed where each month we will look at our favorite – the best – series in a genre.
The genre here, by my definition, is series where the main character(s) are Vampires. These are some of my favorites Since I haven’t read everything, it’s a subset of the possibilities. I’m sure I am forgetting some great authors. There are also plenty of authors I have yet to read. Please share your favorites with me in the comments, also.
My favorite Vampires series are (in no particular order):
Chicagoland Vampire series Elemental Mysteries series Night Huntress series
by Chloe Neill by Elizabeth Hunter by Jeaniene Frost
Sabina Kane series Morganville Vampires series Jane Jameson series
by Jaye Wells by Rachel Caine by Molly Harper
What are your favorite series?

I adore Night Huntress, Chicagoland Vampire, Morganville Vampires on your list !!! Some of my favorite series of all time!
Obviously I like all those too.
I’m definitely a fan of the Night Huntress series, but sadly I haven’t tried the others on your list. 🙂
I would add Dorina Basarab and also Cassandra Palmer series by Karen Chance, Midnight Breed by Lara Adrian, Black Dagger Brotherhood by JR Ward, Immortals After Dark by Kresley Cole (or at least the ones that feature her vampires or ‘vemons’), Sookie Stackhouse series (yeah, I loved most of it) by Charlaine Harris, Guardians of Eternity (for the vampire ones) by Alexandra Ivy, The Vampire Queen series by Joey Hill, Dark Protectors by Rebecca Zanetti, Demimonde trilogy (if that counts) by Ash Krafton, some of the Glory St. Clair series by Gery Bartlett, London Steampunk by Bec McMaster, Fred the Vampire Accountant series by Drew Hayes, and Nightshades trilogy by Melissa Olson.
I loved looking back at my book journal and reminiscing. Wish I still had the anticipation of some of these… oh, well, still a lot of good ones out there still unread. 🙂
Wow you keep good info there. I don’t have shelves in my Goodreads to track things like vampires or shifters so I’m just working off the top of my head. This isn’t a scientific endeavor, just a discussion starting point. Some of them I have heard of and a couple of those I tried and didn’t like (not mentioning any names here). I don’t count Sookie because Sookie is not a vampire. I love the Midnight Breed books but aren’t they actually aliens? I’m sad to say I forgot about Fred the Vampire Accountant. I would include him. I love him.
LOL, I wish my GR shelves were that accurate, but no, this was just me paging through the paper journal I’ve ckept for years. Midnight Breed first gen were alien, but I don’t think I’d count these as sci-fi so I’d slide them in here. I’ll give you that about Sookie herself not being vamp and there are plenty of witches and shifters there, too. Honestly, I haven’t read many straight vampire only series. I still have lots of PNR/UF to read. Fred, yes! I’m behind on those since I went off on my thrillers and romantic suspense tangent last fall. 🙂
I will always be a Night Huntress series fan but my favorite is still the Black Dagger Brotherhood. I’m still following it. I also like the Midnight Breed by Lara Adrian and one of these days I’ll finish up the Chicagoland Vampires.
OK I am confused about Midnight Breed because I thought they were actually aliens not vampires, or am I thinking of something else? I have read the first 12 of the Midnight Breed series and really enjoyed it. BDB is one I know is well loved but I just couldn’t do it.
They’re definitely vampires (Breed).
I know there many who can’t abide the Brotherhood and get it. What I don’t get is my addiction to them?
So am I thinking of another series where some of the original ones came down in some kind of spaceship? I was thinking that’s the first generation like the original guy they fought in one of the books. It’s been about 3 years since I read them.
I think you’re thinking of something else. They’re vamps, even classified as such on Goodreads. They were the first I read.
OK well then I would include them as I did enjoy the books of Midnight Breed
I do love me some sexy vampires. The only series I have read on your list though is the Night Huntress World. Love those. I also like the Argeneau, Black Dagger Brotherhood, Dark Hunter, Midnight Breed, and Love at Stake.
yes, I have read some of the Argeneau books and I liked them pretty well. I also like the Dark Hunters (but they didn’t come to mind for whatever reason) and the Midnight Breed.
The Night Huntress series is my favorite. It has great characters and great writing, and Bones is one of my top book boyfriends.
Well I can’t argue with that it’s one of my favorite series also.
I listened to first few Chicagoland Vampires and struggled with protagonist. However, I loved first book in the spinoff. I loved The Penton Legacy Vampire series and while not technically vampires The Immortal Guardians by Dianne Duvall..epic!
There are various series like CV where you struggled and BDB where I struggled. I have not heard of Penton. I have heard of but not read Dianne Duvall. I’ll have to check them out.
