This is a new feature I developed where each month we will look at our favorite – the best – series in a genre.
The genre here, by my definition, is a series where the main character is a necromancer. These are the ones which came to mind or which I enjoyed. I haven’t read all of these series.
Since I haven’t read everything, it’s a subset of the possibilities. I’m sure I am forgetting some great authors. There are also plenty of authors I have yet to read. Please share your favorites with me in the comments, also.
My favorite Necromancer series are (in no particular order):
The Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy Eric Carter Vesik
by Hailey Edwards by Stephen Blackmoore by Eric Asher
The Ministry of Curiosities Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter Necromancer
by CJ Archer by Laurell K. Hamilton by Lish McBride
What are your favorite series?
Vote for your top 3 favorites! You can vote for my favorites or add favorites of your own. Please tell us your top three (or top 1 or 2) in your comments. Remember this vote is how the winning option is chosen for the giveaway.
Then enter the giveaway below. The winner will get the first book in the winning series! Open to anyone who can receive an Amazon digital ebook.

Oooh… this is a tricky one. I don’t that many Necromancer series, but I’ll give it a try. I’ve heard of most of the ones in your vote list.
The Journals of Octavia Hollows is the only one I had in my reading lists unless I count ghost seers and whisperers. 🙂
Lol, I should have read your comment before posting mine! I also recommended Octavia Hollows. 🙂
Nicci, you can like the same thing. That’s a good recommendation.
Yes I just saw that one Octavia’s Hollows but I have not read it. Thanks for sharing.
The Hailey Edwards series has been on my radar for a while so I’d like to read that one at some point.
I don’t read many that have necromancers but The Journals of Octavia Hollows is a lot of fun. She’s a necromancer and the books are all novella length (and available as an audio boxset).
If I had to pick a top favorite it would be the Hailey Edwards ones. That is the only series where I have read them all, and enjoyed them all. But again, I haven’t read everything.
I really haven’t read a lot of necromancer series either. But I’ll be looking to see what some of the others liked.
The Edge Series by Ilona Andrews is not a series about Necromancers but I love George who is a necromancer in those books.
Well I love that series and everything Ilona Andrews. That’s one reason I do SoS is to get more sharing of favorite books.
I haven’t read too many series with Necromancers, but I’m making a list from this post. LOL I was really into the Anita Blake series for a long while. I got tired of the series though and set it aside. I’ve yet to go back. Maybe someday . . .
I really liked maybe the first 6-7 Anita Blake books, and I read the first 16 or so but it got to be too much. My favorite here is the Hailey Edwards series.
I do like the Anita Blake series, especially those early books when she is doing a lot of necromancy. I feel like I have read several other series with necromancers but none are coming to mind. I do need to get started with the Hailey Edwards series.
I had to really think about what series the team here knew. It’s an interesting topic and not that widely written. I highly recommend the Hailey Edwards ones.
Nice post. I need to check out a few of the ones posted. I liked The Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy and I read Anita Blake well a while back, but I should re-read it. Thank’s for sharing some necromancer series.
Yes I really liked the Hailey Edwards ones and the early Anita Blake. I don’t think I will ever re-read Anita Blake though. I’m just starting into the Vesik series so I’ve got a ways to go there.
i think the only author i have read is hamilton, so of course she is first one my list. i may have read some anita blake and am definitely familar with her name. they all look fabulous and i want to thank you for the chance to win.
Thanks for visiting! I came up with this idea when I started my own blog and I think it is fun to look at something each month.
Anita Blake is the only one that I’ve read, though some are already on my TBR. I feel like there is someone that is missing that I can’t think of, but have no idea who it would be. I could be crazy too.

Oh I’m sure there are things missing. I haven’t read everything and I don’t know about every book or series.
This is an interesting genre – I guess I’ve never really thought about Necromancers as the focus of a series – but clearly they are out there. I know of series that have necromancy as part of the world – for example Harry Dresden – but it’s not a Necromancer series. I’ll have to pay more attention. Thanks!
Thank you! I try to do things which are different and interesting in this feature. I think it’s fun to do the research and put them together.
