Apple In the newest Night Rebel novel, set in New York Times bestselling author Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress world, beautiful, daring vampire Veritas risks all to protect Ian...
Some promises are meant to be broken...
Veritas spent most of her life as a vampire Law Guardian. Now, she's about to break every rule by secretly hunting down the dark souls that were freed in order to save Ian. But the risks are high. For if she gets caught, she could lose her job. And catching the sinister creatures might cost Veritas her own life.
Some vows are forever...
Ian's memories might be fragmented, but this master vampire isn't about to be left behind by the woman who entranced him, bound herself to him, and then disappeared. So what if demons, other Law Guardians, and dangerous, otherworldly forces stand against them? Come hell or high water, Ian intends to remind Veritas of the burning passion between them, because she is the only person seared on his mind--and his soul...
This is the second book in Jeaniene Frost’s Night Rebel series set in the Night Huntress world. This series follows bad boy, Ian, and law guardian, Veritas. I think you can read the Night Rebel series without having read the rest of the Night Huntress world, which I highly recommend too, but I wouldn’t recommend starting with this book, you need to read Shades of Wicked, first. Wicked Bite picks up right where it ends.
Now you would think that a man who constantly thumbs his nose to the law wouldn’t pair well with a law guardian, basically the cops of vampire society. But these two fit really well together. That doesn’t mean it is easy for either of them in the first book or this one, truthfully, the next one won’t be easy either. I’ve really liked watching them solve problems together, though I wish Veritas would take the help that Ian offers more. She is trying to protect him, but Ian is very good at doing that himself. He is always full of surprises.
I also enjoyed seeing some of the other characters in the Night Huntress world. I loved seeing more of Ian and Veritas. I can’t wait to see where the series goes from here. I’m also curious as to what Frost has planned after she completes this spin off series. Will she spin off with another character or start something completely new. I’m up for either, but I do have suggestions for more character spin offs if she’s interested. **coughs** **Tate and Justina**
Narration
Tavia Gilbert has been the voice of this series going all the way back to the very first Cat & Bones book, Halfway to the Grave. I’ve really enjoyed her voices of all the different characters, which is a very large cast. I’ve praised her a lot over the years. I don’t know what I can say that I haven’t already said. She is a narrator I highly recommend. If you haven’t tried listening to her, I highly recommend it.

I’m Melanie, and I like to live vicariously through fictional characters. I enjoy reading and listening to mostly fictional books in the paranormal genre, including Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance and Horror. I will read contemporary romance on occasion, but not often. I will occasionally throw in a biography, usually autobiographies of people that I find interesting. Listening to autobiographies that are narrated by the author have been great in my experience.
I started listening to audiobooks when a new book in a series was coming out and I wanted to get a refresher, but didn’t have time to read all the books (I think it was Anita Blake). I fell in love. I stayed with strictly re-reading books that I’d already read for a long time. I eventually tried an audiobook for something that I hadn’t read first and was hooked there too. Now, I listen to audio for both re-reads and first time. I have some series that I’ve given up reading and only listen. I try to get any many books/audiobooks from the library to help save on my budget. Books on CD and the newer digital downloads from the library really allow me to listen more. I then purchase my favorites (because who can wait in line for your favorite book??) and less mainstream books from Audible or some other online retailer.

It’s been so long since I haven’t read a book by this author. I did read the original series but only one spin off novel
The spinoffs have been a lot of fun too. I hope she does another one.
You’ve got me excited about resuming this series, Melanie! Great review?
It is a really fun series. Ian is a great character and I was very excited to read his story. I ended up loving Veritas too.
Ian is so much fun. Veritas and he are a really good match, no one was more surprised than me. I’ve liked this spin off way more than Vlads.
It was a good time for sure. That ending. Ian and Veritas are in for some interesting times.
I never would’ve thought I would like Veritas as much as I have. She’s been great.
i’ve been reading a bit of fantasy…getting lost in fictional worlds
I do love to get lost in fictional worlds.
I am midway through her series and didn’t realize this was set in the same world. Good to know.
She’s done a few spin offs for this series. They are fun too. I do recommend them.
I need to catch up on this series / world. This Ian series seems VERY popular. I own all the Vlad books and need to read them first.
These do take place chronologically after Vlad’s books.
I read this a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. I really was hesitant to start this series because I really disliked Ian in the other books. Now with these two books I really liked him. Great review Melanie!
I like stories with a-holes that I end up liking. I thought Frost would do a great job of it. I’m glad she tackled Ian. It has been a fun story.
Thank’s for the review. I still need to finish Vlad’s story before diving into Ian’s. ^_^
Enjoy. I liked Vlad’s stories too. I want to do a revisit of this series (I want to revisit of all series, I think LOL).
I haven’t started this one yet. I was thinking about waiting until all the books are out. I met the author this past February and that was super exciting!
She is a lot of fun. I got to meet her at a book store a hour or so away from my house. I had a blast. It was release of the last book of the Cat & Bones series.
I really loved this book and look forward to checking out the audiobook. Tavia Gilbert does a great job with Frost’s books.
I really love Tavia Gilbert. I’ve listened to her with a few series. She always does a great job.
