Sunday, it’s colder and rainy today. With wind chill it’s near freezing. I’m not watching football but I decided to make a snack anyway. The rain should be good for my new plantings. I wonder how things will work sharing to Twitter with the API not being free anymore. It may be time to really fully move to Mastodon. My book Twitter hasn’t changed much but my personal Twitter is a mess and no longer as useful. Facebook (personal), other than pages, and groups like my neighborhood and COYER, is less useful too. I worked on knitting the fingerless gloves for my daughter while I watched some episodes of Shantaram.
Monday, my daughter’s ears are still hurting so I called right at 8am for a doctor appt. We went at 10:30 and then to pick up new Rx for a steroid and antibiotic ear drops. I stopped next door at the radiology office to schedule a mammogram. I looked at this week’s calendar and we actually have a lot of appts. I took Lulu on the longer route while listening to my book for the Read-along.
Tuesday, a gorgeous day and we started out with our walk. I did a lot with being able to stay home. But it was lots of chores. After making a dinner my daughter wanted, I came back upstairs to cancel my Apple TV free trial. I watched 4 episodes of Shantaram. Sigh. There are only 13 but I couldn’t manage it in 2 months. On the plus side, I’m reading well. Then my computer crashed. The hard drive has been doing this since I got it but since it always booted back up and to use the warranty I have to send it away for a minimum of 2 weeks. I guess it might be time because I couldn’t get it to power down. I’ll have to unplug and wait for it to die.
Wednesday, more nice weather for our dog walking. I started on my backup computer. Fortunately, I have most stuff installed on it or stuff is on the Internet instead of the computer. It’s still tricky for a few things. I updated the backup computer to a bigger SSD drive over a year ago so I’d be ready to send the newer one for repair. I called the warranty company and they want me to reformat the computer and then see if it crashes before sending it. I don’t mind the reformatting since that will happen anyway. It’s the reinstalling all the programs and data that is so time-consuming. yes I have a complete daily backup but programs can’t be reinstalled that way. The newer computer did come back up after the power died and I set it to charging.
Thursday, another beautiful walk with our dogs and visit with Marley, the goldendoodle next door. Rather than face the tasks, I took the day to sew a circular needle holder I designed around Christmas and have been dying to make. The older needle holder I made with plastic tubing and yarn, but it is too small for the number of needles I have now. I bought a bunch of needles in January, and I have to return to Amazon the ones I don’t want, so today they get organized. First I went thru my totes of fabric to find what I could use for it. I reread thru the notes I made on how I want to make it. Then I cut the fabrics to the size and used some interfacing to make the fabric more solid. My daughter went thru all the new needles with me and we decided what to keep. I need more because she is always using them and has adopted my love of circulars for most everything. A great mental health day to make what I’ve been wanting. I forgot to eat lunch.
Friday, I got Lulu out right before it started to rain hard. The newer computer crashed again overnight, but rebooted right up. We had lots of running to the neurologist, the UPS store with Amazon returns, Wegmans and then Harris Teeter for Rx. Wegmans makes a great gluten-free sub sandwich. I really liked the bread; I wonder if they would sell it. We normally get Schar baguettes but they keep getting more spendy and no one has them right now. We also got some GF carrot cake cupcakes they had and wow, they were good. They were in mini muffin size 12 in a package. I had made a new soup recipe in the crockpot, so less to do when we got home. It’s a tomato tortellini soup. I used turkey sausage for the sausage. It has very few ingredients and turned out delicious. We had salads and leftover Red Lobster style cheesy biscuits I made a couple of days ago with it. I looked up a bunch of recipes on making GF french bread. I was so tired I could barely read and went to bed early and slept in late too.
Saturday, well today I at least need to get the backup computer set up like this one so it’s ready to use while I reformat this one, and then send it off. It could be memory or memory on the SSD drive which is failing but something is and then it crashes. The error says HD but when I ran HP diagnostics on the HD awhile back it passed as fine. I should have done this right after I got the computer because it did start crashing right away but I was busy and knew I had the 4 year warranty. I’m just lucky I can put the two computers side-by-side to set up my backup. Well that will be tomorrow as I am still avoiding reality. I called around to Chevy dealers to see who has a Volt certified technician and to get estimates for some regular maintenance but will have to wait until Monday to get real information. I did blog visiting and wrote reviews and took Lulu for a medium length walk. It was supposed to be cold but seemed pretty nice. This week we are supposed to have a high of 85F/ 29C but mostly we will be around 70F / 20C, so really nice overall. I got some surprise book mail today too.
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Reading Reality. These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):
My sincere thanks to Berkley, Minotaur Books, Penguin Audio.
(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)
I bought this with my Audible listening coupon reward.
Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.
I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.
I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

Yay, glad to see you starting Max Abaddon. While I am 100% android for my phone, about 7 years ago I switched to a MacBook Pro and will never go back. Before, I had crashes and all kinds of issues every time Windows updated. I was buying a new laptop every 3-4 years, no matter how much I spent. I hope they are able to fix it for you quickly.
Thanks Kimberly. I am happy to start collecting them. That’s funny. I am totally iphone and most of my experience is Windows. It’s easier to stay with what I know.
Good luck with your computer issues, ugh sorry you’re going through that. You’ll have to post a photo of your circular needle holder since I’m having trouble picturing it. I didn’t even know what a circular needle was, lol. Have a good week, Anne!
uh Tammy there’s a photo of the old next to the new above in the post. The old one used plastic tubes and had small rounds to thread them through. The new pink one has fabric sections of 1.5-2″ which is much larger and holds more. I based it on a pattern I saw online but I used French seams so no lose edges and the doubling of fabric would add more strength to the holder like the interfacing.
Ugh computer issues. I made the switch to Mac 20 some years ago and it was the best decision ever. I had so many issues in undergrad with windows computers. And to get them repaired I always had to give them up for weeks. Now, I can go to the apple store and get it back much quicker (although, I have only had to do that once). Hopefully it is a quick process for you! Have a great week!
I’ve had good testimonials for Mac but we have a lot of experience with Windows computers sadly. This is unusual; I’ve generally been able to figure out and had good enough luck with my systems.
Oh no, I am so sorry that you are having computer issues. I use a Chromebook for most of what I do which doesn’t have any programs downloaded on it. I rarely use my desktop. I hope that your daughter’s ear starts feeling better soon. Nice new reads. I enjoyed the first couple Max Abaddon books and need to get back to the series. Have a great week!
Thank you Carole. I’m using the “crasher” again today. It works well most of the time but the crashing is a sign that something is not right and I need to get the backup setup and get it repaired. I’m just being an ostrich today. My daughter seems to be a bit better. I have been wanting to read the Max Abaddon series so I’m starting to collect them as I can.
I’ve thought about switching to Mastodon. Twitter seems like such a mess now, although tobe fair I don’t tweet much. I need to get walking too since I haven’t been all winter. I hope your computer issues work out all right.
That new Sherry Thomas looks good. And looking forward to the new Armstrong…
Thank you Greg. It’s another case of sticking my head in the sand. I don’t want to admit I’m losing the functionality Twitter once had for me, at least on the personal side. I’m using both Twitter and Mastodon for both personal and Blog. What I should do is go through the people I follow on personal Twitter and see if they are still active or if I want to connect with them anywhere else. It’s a big job. I’ve been on Twitter the longest time. I’m excited for my new reads.
I think I need to switch to Mastedon as well. Twitter is so frustrating now. I can’t believe how messed up it is now. Love seeing Lulu, she sho cute with her little tongue sticking out!
Thanks Wendy. I am using both Twitter and Mastodon for now.
I hope you enjoy all of these. Have a great weekend!
Thank you Cindy.
I have trouble with my ears as well as there is constant build up of wax. Diluted hydrogen peroxide is my friend.
Hope your daughter’s ear problem clears up soon.

Thank you. She has always had ear troubles. It seems to be getting better now.
Seeing your appointments reminds me that I need to reschedule a few I had to cancel while I was sick. Too bad about the computer crashes. I swear the latest Windows update got my computer acting up. I do back stuff up, but it can be a pain to reload. Hopefully, you can get stuff switched over to the other computer without too much time lost. Your tomato tortellini soup sounds good. I got the new Sherry Thomas, too.
Have a good week, Anne!
Thanks Sophia! A bunch of appts that are periodic just all ended up last week plus the regulars which are weekly or biweekly. I will work to make progress this week on the computer repair, taxes and car maintenance while minimizing my freak-outs.
I hate computer issues! And I hope your daughter feels better Anne!
Thanks so much Sophie!
Lulu is just too cute.
I don’t watch football either, didn’t even know it was on that day.
Computer problems are so frustrating.
Thank you Mary. I have to focus on the good stuff like Lulu and just get through the tedious like computer repair.
I don’t know what this means: I wonder how things will work sharing to Twitter with the API not being free anymore.
Good for you, setting aside tasks to do something enjoyable instead!
Hope all goes well with the computer!
Thanks Jinjer. ok Twitter is going to start charging for its API which used to be free. I don’t know if apps which already have it will still work but when there are updates to Twitter they may fail. The Twitter API, I think is used to post to Twitter, like from blogs or apps like dlvr.it or IFTTT or buffer (the ones I have tried) or the crossposter with Mastodon. Actually, Goodreads posts to Twitter also. So any or all of those may not work anymore if the developers don’t pay, I think.
Computer issues stink! Glad you had some nice weather to balance the rain-
yes. I’m on the backup computer. I was just settling down to Sunday visiting and the crash computer froze. That’s new. Obviously it is getting worse and I do need to set up for the repair.
Computer issues are extremely frustrating. Luckily with my Mac I have very few. Great haul again this week! Have a wonderful week ahead Anne.
Thank you Jodie. I don’t enjoy the time waster computer issues are but I do keep excellent backups and have a backup computer so it could be much worse.
I’ve got 1919 on order for my school library. Sorry to hear about all the computer issues. I hate how you have to send computers away for repair for warranties, it’s like who can go that long without their laptop these days? Good thing you do have the backup just in case. I hope this week is better for you with the computer issues. We’ve been having the crazy up and down temps and weather here too! Really nice earlier in the week, then freezing and cold Wednesday night into snow and ice on Thursday morning.
yes exactly. I can’t go 2 weeks or so without any computer. That’s why I have a backup. I won’t buy a warranty like that in the future. I could spend that amount probably to fix it at a good place we have found locally so that’s what I will do in the future.
Ugh, laptops are convenient but so unstable a lot of the time. We’re currently trying to choose one for my son and there’s no clear cut choice.
That’s quite the freebie haul!
Wishing you a week of great reading!
Thank you Shelleyrae. I am lucky to have good backups of the crashing computer and a good backup computer unit to use during the repair. It could be much worse.
I’m sorry you’re having so much trouble with your computers! I hope the warranty covers whatever is wrong with it, and they can fix it. We had to get a new one for my husband last fall. His kept having problems, and it was way past the warranty date.
Your new circular needle storage looks awesome! I love circs too. I do still use straights for some stuff, but most of the time I use circulars. I use either the magic loop method or two circulars to avoid having to use DPNs for things like socks and the crowns of hats.
Enjoy all your new books, and have a great week!
Thanks Kara. I do love my circulars and I have dpns in every size I still use. I could use circs for that I suppose. Anyway, I was thrilled to avoid my problems and get that holder made as I’d been thinking about it for more than a month. My warranty is good for 2 more years so hopefully it will cover the problem. It’s just such a time waster though.
‘A Tempest at Sea’ sounds really good. Curious to see what you think of that one.
Well I’ve loved the rest of the series. I’m planning to start the audio tomorrow.
Sounds like a busy week. Hope you get your computer sorted. The social media drives me crazy too. And I have Wild Fever waiting on my Kobo.
I like a busy week but with new ideas and projects not repairs! The social media is a wait and see for now.
Glad your daughter was able to be seen so quickly. Sorry to hear about the computer issues. I hope it doesn’t take as long as they say to get it back. Sounds like Thursday was a much needed day of doing what you wanted. That’s good for the soul. I made a sausage tortellini soup a month or so ago and it was so tasty. Too many tomatoes for my liking but that was easy enough to work around (everyone else liked them and I just picked them out). I hope your week is off to a great start, Anne!
Thank you Tanya. Sometimes it’s just what we need to do for mental health. My daughter is with you on the tomatoes. I compromised and used one can of diced tomatoes instead of two.
Sounds like another busy week. I love soup when it’s cold. Crockpot dinners are so nice to come home to after a busy day! Bummer about your computer issues. It’s so frustrating and probably even more so being it’s a newer computer. At least it’s under warranty. It’s been warmer (in the 60s and sunny) but we’re supposed to drop in temps and have snow this week. I guess winter isn’t over for us yet.
I’m going to request that Allison Brennan soon. It sounds really good! I was offered a digital copy of that Sherry Thomas book but I only read the first in the series so I wonder if I’d be lost or if I could jump in.
Thank you Rachel. We are getting a real warm up this week but it will drop and rain for the end of the week. I’m slowly getting things done using the backup computer and getting it fully setup before I work on the crash computer. I love the Sherry Thomas series SO much but I listen to them all on audio. I would read the series in order because the plots and situations develop throughout the series. It’s awesome though and you should be able to get them at the library.
A super busy week! Sorry to hear about all the computer troubles. What a pain in the butt.
Exactly. It’s not that I don’t know what to do. It’s the irritation and waste of time.
Computer issues are such a pain. 🙁 That’s nice you sewed your own circular needle holder. It’s therapeutic and convenient to be able to craft things like that.
I love surprise book mail. Happy reading to you and Lulu this week.
Thanks Naida. I had a picture in my head of what I wanted and thought why not make it instead of buying something as I have tons to fabric, interfacing and thread for quilting. It’s a good week weather wise so Lulu is really having a good time.
Hope your computer issues get resolved quickly. Love the needle thing that you made – very nice!
Thank you. I was happy to get my needle holder made.
You reminded me I need to schedule my mammogram and a lab appointment! I had forgotten all about it. I hope this week hasn’t been too crazy with all the appointments. Good luck with the computer problems. Those drive me crazy!
Thank you Katherine. This week wasn’t one full of medical appointments – it was mid-terms. I’m glad I could remind you of health maintenance tasks.
We like to cook as though we are watching football even though we don’t watch. 🙂
Good plan.
Aah, I’ve never needed my Lulu fix more💜 It’s been a tough few weeks as hubby’s health took a nose dive. I almost lost him but things are much better now. He’s back home and improving every day. I haven’t has a lot of time for reading the last month and keeping up with my online friends. Thanks for hanging in there with me!
I’m so sorry Jonetta. I hope things are much improved. Please let me know if there is anything I can do.
