This is a new feature I developed where each month we will look at our favorite – the best – series in a genre or topic.
The topic here, by my definition, is a series with a main character who is Sheriff. These are the ones which came to mind. I enjoyed some more than others. The team had to help me find some of these.
Since I haven’t read everything, it’s a subset of the possibilities. I’m sure I am forgetting some great authors. There are also plenty of authors I have yet to read. Please share your favorites with me in the comments, also.
My favorite Sheriff series are (in no particular order):

Wall Street Journal bestselling author Melinda Leigh is a fully recovered banker. A life-long lover of books, she started writing as a way to preserve her sanity while raising her kids. Over the next few years, she learned a few things about writing a book. The process was much more fun than analyzing financial statements, and she decided to turn her hobby into a career. Melinda’s debut novel, SHE CAN RUN, was nominated for Best First Novel by the International Thriller Writers. She is a RITA® Award Finalist and has earned three Daphne du Maurier Award nominations, two Silver Falchion Awards, and a Golden Leaf.
Melinda holds a 2nd degree belt in Kenpo Karate. She’s dabbled in Arnis stick fighting, studied Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and taught women’s self-defense. She lives in a messy house in the suburbs with her husband, two kids, a couple of shelter dogs and two rescue cats who clearly run the show. With such a pleasant life, she has no explanation for the sometimes dark and disturbing nature of her imagination.
Raised in the Cascade Mountains of Oregon, William Kent Krueger briefly attended Stanford University—before being kicked out for radical activities. After that, he logged timber, worked construction, tried his hand at freelance journalism, and eventually ended up researching child development at the University of Minnesota. He currently makes his living as a full-time author. He’s been married for over 40 years to a marvelous woman who is an attorney. He makes his home in St. Paul, a city he dearly loves.
Krueger writes a mystery series set in the north woods of Minnesota. His protagonist is Cork O’Connor, the former sheriff of Tamarack County and a man of mixed heritage—part Irish and part Ojibwe. His work has received a number of awards, including the Minnesota Book Award, the Loft-McKnight Fiction Award, the Anthony Award, the Barry Award, the Dilys Award, and the Friends of American Writers Prize. His last five novels were all New York Times bestsellers.
I can't really remember any time when I wasn't reading. I LOVE books and what they give me. It's an opportunity to learn new things, see new places, live different emotions in a "safe" way. It lets me live in a new world.
I read all types of books but my favorites are urban fantasy and romantic suspense.I like some romance and some action / adventure / mystery in everything.I like sex in my books but please, only between TWO people.Intimate conversation is equally important to the sex in a book.It lets me see the characters. The other thing I enjoy is humor.
I haven’t read any of those books. The only series I can think of that I read that’s kinda like this is the Long, Tall Texans series by Diana Palmer. There’s usually Sheriff involved in there somewhere. Lol
Well some of these are really good if you like a police procedural and a lawman usually in a more rural area, who may have to coordinate with state police, tribal police or town police.
Well these are all ones to try if you like the category. Longmire is one I just started to read a bit and there’s a show on Netflix. They are not the same. But William Kent Krueger is an all-time favorite author so I’d highly recommend that series if you want to read more.
I haven’t read any of these. The only “sheriff” book I can even think of is Totally Folked by Penny Reid. If it is police at all, then I might think of the SWAT books by Lani Lynn Vale. Other than that I don’t really read series about police. I can think of books like the Penny Reid one that feature a police officer and are part of a series though. There is a K. Bromberg one too, Cuffed?
yes I think it is less common in romance to have a series with all the same character. This was specifically Sheriff not just police. But 2 police series would be the In Death series by JD Robb with Eve Dallas and the Fatal series by Marie Force with Sam Holland if you have read either of those.

I haven’t read any of these books featured. I haven’t read any sheriff series. Thanks for sharing!
Well these are the ones I enjoyed. We are enjoying Longmire on Netflix but it is quite different from the books.
I’ve read the bottom three and loved them. I’m hoping to read the first Cork O’Connor for the Rec RAT.
Well that’s an all time favorite so I hope you can fit it in. I really enjoy this category and wish there were more series.
Sunshine Vicram is the only one I can think of that I’ve read.
