Hendrix Barry lives a fabulous life. She has phenomenal friends, a loving family, and a thriving business that places her in the entertainment industry's rarefied air. Your vision board? She’s probably living it.
She’s a woman with goals, dreams, ambitions—always striving upward. And in the midst of everything, she's facing her toughest challenge caring for an aging parent.
Who has time for romance? From her experience, there's a low ROI on relationships. She hasn't met the man who can keep up with her anyway. Until...him.
Tech mogul Maverick Bell is a dilemma wrapped in an exquisitely tailored suit and knee-melting charm. From their first charged glance at the summer's hottest party, Hendrix feels like she’s met her match. Only he can’t be. Mav may be the first to make her feel this seen and desired and appreciated, but he’s the last one she can have. Forbidden fruit is the juiciest, and this man is off limits if she plans to stay the course she’s set for herself.
I’ve really enjoyed this Skyland series. It is about three friends who developed in their adult lives but have really supported each other and shared their lives. I would read them in order because of the development of the relationships. Each could be read alone though. Chapters alternate between Hendrix and Maverick’s points of view.
Each book is chock full of emotions and personal growth. They are romances, sexy, with all the passions of relationships. But the women are more than their romantic relationship. They have a close bond between them, but they also have careers and some of them children, and other family like parents, siblings. The characters are very well developed as people, with many aspects of their lives.
Hendrix is all about her career and is very talented. She runs a venture capital firm and is also getting into television production. She is open about her love of hot sex, but doesn’t think anyone will be worth her effort and trust. Men always expect the woman to give when it comes to careers. She also does not want children. She goes to visit her mother and discovers since a neighbor died, her mother is not handling her Alzheimer’s well.
She meets Maverick Bell at a party with one of her business connections, Zaire. Zaire has been in a relationship with Maverick for about 3 years. Hendrix and Mav connect as his grandparent had Alzheimer’s before she died. His kind words help her with her current struggle.
After the party, Maverick and Zaire announce their breakup, and Maverick pursues Hendrix. They have a lot in common with business and having lost a parent, and having a close relative with Alzheimer’s. He is very supportive with information and the emotional journey with a loved one having Alzheimer’s.
Mav has to convince Hendrix that a relationship is worth the effort. They are extremely attracted to each other. There comes a point where he has to choose a business deal or her, and she is not optimistic. But they are so happy together.
I enjoyed this as I have a relative with Alzheimer’s so it touched me in its realness. I was more interested in that, the career / business aspects, even the friends as much or more than the romance. The couple’s wealth did ease many difficulties that others may face.
Narration:
The narrators were the same as in the first book in the series. They were distinct enough for me to recognize characters and comfortably appropriate. The voices infused the story with emotions. I was able to listen at my newer 1.7x speed.

Awwww!! How fun!!
She was always the outrageous one of the three women. Full of life, talent, and confidence.
I can’t wait to start this series! Wonderful review, Anne💜
It’s an amazing series with real issues they face.
This looks like a fun read and I do like there is a realistic representation of Alzheimer’s. It sounds like that adds a bit of heart to the story.
yes this whole series has some realistic issues that are emotional and handled well.
I don’t read romance as much as I used to, but this sounds like it’s a little more than just a romance. Maybe a bit of women’s fiction? I like that more than just straight up romance. I don’t think I’ve read this author, but I’ve seen good things. I know she’s really popular.
I met her at Book Bonanza in 2019. I really liked her. This series is what I call life fiction, which usually has a romance but is more complex and realistic than most contemporary romance.
I’ve enjoyed a couple books by this author, I need to read more. Great review!
I really like her. I met her at Book Bonanza 2019 and have read some of her books since then.
