I haven’t always been sure that shorter stories could develop the characters and plot well enough to make a good story. But lately I have seen some talented authors making it work well enough. I might like more character growth but it’s a good story and may be will be the start to something new. Takedown is part of a new Pursuit collection of stories by different authors as an Audible Original.

I always enjoy Allison Brennan and the emotion she brings to her writing. Skye is a dedicated and caring police officer. She is frustrated by women getting hurt and not being able to stop it, although her instincts tell her she knows who is the culprit. But he has friends in high places and has been careful to not leave evidence and to have alibis.

He plays a game with Skye to rile her up and make her feel like prey. He’s enjoying himself. Skye gets suspended when she questions his alibi, not even aggressively. But those people in high places complained. Another officer comes up with a risky plan, but things don’t go as planned. It’s a satisfying conclusion.

Narration:

Hillary Huber is one of my favorites. She narrates some of Brennan’s other series, too. Her performance enhanced my enjoyment of the story with the emotions expressed for the characters. I listened at my usual 1.5x speed.
