In a galaxy tied together by the magic of the elite Jump Magi, Damien Montgomery is a newly graduated member of their number.
With no family or connections to find a ship, he is forced to service on an interstellar freighter known to be hunted by pirates.
When he takes drastic action to save the "Blue Jay" from their pursuers, he sets in motion a sequence of events beyond his control - and attracts enemies on both sides of the law!
Starship's Mage was originally released as five separate episodes.

Space opera and magic – what’s not to love? Starship’s Mage combines some of my favorite things. I’ve always loved space opera. There’s science and technology and new, faraway places, and politics and adventures and battles. But usually there’s a person or a crew who is out there exploring new places, learning about themselves and inevitably, showing compassion and integrity as they fight greed and evil.
Damien is that guy, our hero. He’s a special snowflake and has tragically lost his whole family. His relationships and the dialogue are rather awkward. We learn as Damien learns with his first voyages and battles in space.
I enjoyed this book more than I expected. The storytelling is good. But the dialogue was stiff and somehow not right with the characters. The “told” is better than the shown. I like the unique quality of the world; the world-building itself is not overwhelming with detail. The Starship’s Mage series has continued and I want to know what happens with these characters. Hopefully, the dialogue improves. Either way, this is a worthwhile story and I want to read more.
