Sunday Post – 24 June 2018 @kimbacaffeinate @Tynga @readingreality

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly  @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received.

I’ve got several giveaways going on right now – check them out on the right sidebar!

Why did I leave this until Saturday night?  I worked all day so I am too tired to say much.  It’s been hot here this week and it will continue. We should try to go to the pool. We’ve been here 3 years and never gone.  I do look forward to trying some more gluten-free cooking. We aren’t really having any problems. Our favorite meal is chicken with root veggies baked in the oven. We use sweet potatoes, onions, carrots and along with sometimes rutabagas, sometimes parsnips or turnips, depending on what is available.

I participated this week in the COYER Fairy Tale Readathon. I’m SO excited I was able to listen to two audiobooks which count  The Bear and The Nightingale, and The Girl in the Tower, both by Katherine Arden.  The review for the first one already posted yesterday.  I also read two fairy tale Kindle freebies I had.  Managing to do this was very satisfying.   This week is the List for me in the COYER challenge which I found out last time is my FAVORITE!

In thrilling audiobook news, Steve West tweeted he is narrating Iron & Magic so I MUST get it ASAP!!!! He is currently my favorite male narrator. My review of this amazing book will be tomorrow. Yes, I sometimes get Ilona Andrews books in multiple formats.

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality.   Here are the exciting ARCs I received this past week.  These are both audiobooks but the Goodreads images aren’t quite right.

The Start of Something Good           Good Little Girls

Year One (Chronicles of The One #1) by Nora Roberts read by Julia Whelan

Prisoner of the Crown              Year One

The Huntress / FBI Thrillers series

I blame Carole for the Alexandra Sokoloff books + audiobooks, since I saw she got them and I had to buy them.

Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.

I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT  they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.   I’ve read Blaze of Winter a few years ago from the library but I thought I’d get it while it’s free.  I enjoyed all four books in the series and I bought my favorite one of them at the time.

I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

If you like this and want to see me do the Sunday post, as often as I can manage, leave me a comment and let me know. I work odd hours with no access to phone or Internet so sometimes I’m not around to approve comments right away.

  1. Looks like you have some great reads to stay indoors with! It’s about 110 with the heat index here. Just got out of the pool and inside until later this afternoon. I like to swim late in the afternoon and watch the house light up as darkness approaches. And I work outside, so not looking forward to work tomorrow. LOL

    My Sunday Post

    • yes I do have some great reads, and I hope you find your reads are great! It’s been just as hot with the heat index here. Tuesday we might get a slight break with winds from the north and a high of 87. We have never used the pool here yet so maybe we will manage this week. If you’re out in that heat, stay hydrated and sun-blocked. Thanks for visiting.

  2. Well done on reading so much for the COYER Fairy Tale Readathon. I’m just getting into audiobooks, it’s like a whole new world! I’m loving the ability to ‘read’ my book anywhere now. I hope you enjoy your new books.

    • Thanks I only started with audiobooks 3 years ago when I was packing to move and driving multiple days in the car. Now I listen whenever driving longer distances, over lunch, while doing errands, or knitting or sewing or doing chores. It really helps me do more reading and some narrators are amazing. It added about 70 books a year for me.

  3. Sophia Rose

Your chicken dish sounds good to me, but ugh on the heat. We caught a break last week and had moderate temps though the humidity was high.

Nicely done for the fairytale readathon. I skipped that mini-challenge b/c I needed to hit some review commitments hard, but I’ll be with you this week on the list. 🙂

Great sale and freebie finds. I saw Year One at Audible and it is totally worth it. I’ve never tried Steve West’s narration so I’ll have to give his stuff a go. 🙂

    Have a great week, Anne!

    • Thanks! You totally must listen to something Steve West – he is amazing! He will be featured in in a favorite narrator post I am doing Wednesday. I enjoy the sales and freebies and I reworked my Goodreads shelves to make sure I actually start reading them!

  4. Ooh Huntress Moon and Blood Moon look good. Nice mysterious covers. 🙂 And the chicken w/ root veggies sounds pretty good! Now I feel like chicken ha ha…

Have a great week! Glad COYER started out well.

    • Thanks Greg! It’s been a crazy couple week and today I want to get back to visiting people online again. I hope you had some great reads for yourself this week.

    • Thanks. It’s hard to find a dish that is reliable and always great. We use different chicken depending on what’s available. The original recipe used skin on chicken thighs but I’ve used skinless and also used drumsticks. Thanks for stopping by!

    • Thanks I am excited about them. Lots of audiobooks. I have to be careful to actually schedule in time to listen to ones I buy.

  5. I have the same problem sometimes when I leave writing my Sunday post till Saturday evening and then cna’t think of anything to say. I am doing Coyer as well, but didn’t participate in the readathon. Nice haul you got this week, I hope they’re all good ones! Have a great week!

    • Thanks for visiting. I hope to enjoy them soon. If only I didn’t have to be an adult. lol I was more exhausted than unable to think of anything. I wasn’t sure I couldn’t keep my eyes open to do it. Good luck with COYER it is my favorite challenge with great people.

  6. Yvonne

I keep getting freebies too. Like you, I figure they are free so I’m not hurting anyone 🙂 Now, I need to make time to read them. I have some of the same ones you do. Hope you have a great week!

    • Here’s to both of us reading more freebies! I started doing the Thrifty Thursday posts to make sure I read some of them. Thanks for visiting.

  7. I always say I’m going to cut back on freebies, but I see free and can’t help it especially if it’s one I’ve had my eye on. I like you new editions to your book shelf. I hope you enjoy them. It’s been hot the last 3 days in San. Fransisco, we where under a heat advisory until Sunday this week. It’s finally cooled down a little. Down side of all this heat is their is no A/C in our house we rent, so we have to rely on the wind off the bay and my husband has allergies, so it’s killing him to have the windows open…
Have a great week and happy reading!

    • Yes I don’t think I will ever stop with the freebies. I’m sorry about your husband’s allergies. I have them also, year round between pollen, dust and mold and CATS. We don’t have cats but they are one of my worst allergies. I can’t believe San Francisco hot, it’s been around 100 here, is today, but it might get down to 87 on Tuesday but otherwise, it’s upper 90s. I am happy to stay in and read in the A/C.

      • I do miss the A/C.. It was a shocker when we moved here to find out no A/C and of course how expensive everything is. I don’t think I’ll every stop on freebies either, though I try to stop and think will I really read that one? does it sound like one I’d enjoy? before clicking. Oh my husband has the same allergies you do. CATS are the worst for him too. He can’t be around cats. Have a great week.

    • yes I love my books. The pool is for the whole subdivision so I don’t have to clean it. Maybe we will get there this year. Thanks for visiting.

Oh no….I kind of feel like a book pusher 🙂 I hope you like the Alexandra Sokoloff series. I read the first one in print and liked it a lot so I couldn’t resist picking up the series with R.C. Bray as narrator. We eat a lot of meat + veggies at my house as well. I did make gluten free chocolate muffins for everyone this morning but that was largely because it was the first meal that we had my daughter home for in a week and she was gone again by lunchtime. Have a great week and stay cool!

    • Don’t feel bad. I wanted to get them. I guess I could have gone with another month of Kindle Unlimited since they are there but I wanted to get them. I can’t remember having RC Bray as narrator for anything I’ve read yet. But I listened to a sample since if I couldn’t stand him I for sure should read rather than listen. But he sounded good. A bit like Jeffrey Kafer on the Starship Mage series. My daughter doesn’t like meat as much and doesn’t eat red meat at all so I try to make sure she gets protein she will eat. I made homemade pizza for us today.

  9. That is a very respectable book haul – and when there are some great freebies that you know you’ll love, then it’s daft not to get them, isn’t it? Have a great week, though I’m hoping it will be a tad cooler for you – three figures sounds too much heat. Over here in the UK we don’t get those temperatures hardly at all, I’m glad to say. And just for a change, the weather has been wonderful this month!

    • Free is an easy. My favorite are actually the first book in a series and when it is an author I want to try or even know I like. I am hoping for cooler but it is looking less promising. It’s supposed to be in the 80s yet in June and 90s more in July and early August but sometimes we get a hot June and it’s not my favorite. Enjoy your pleasant weather!

      • Thank you, Anne. Oh yes – it’s a real win when you get a free or special offer on a favourite author:)).

    • You have a great week, too! Don’t worry. I laugh in the face of danger. And buy more disk space.

  10. You’ve got some lovely new books! I hope you enjoy them. I can only swim without getting cold if the temps have reached 100, but we don’t get real cold here, so I’m sure everywhere else they love swimming when temps are cooler. If you get to the pool, I hope you enjoy it! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

    • I was a lifeguard in high school and college. When I took the training, it was early morning, early in the year in Iowa, outdoor pool. They had a thermometer in the pool and the water temp was 55F. Yeah. Good thing I was a sturdy bugger.

  11. I love reading the Sunday posts from my favorite bloggers as they include both personal updates as well blog/book related updates. They let me know about the blogger up and closer.

    • yes that is part of the fun and excitement of getting to know people. I just hate when I can’t get around to visiting and commenting, but it just won’t happen every week. Thank you for visiting.

    • I enjoy the author Jeffe Kennedy and read a novella by her from this same world as Prisoner of the Crown in December. I want to read the whole series. I think this is number 7 or something. But I grabbed it since it was on sale and it is one of the series I am considering for next year’s read-along. Thank you for stopping by!

    • I find with more complicated plots of some fantasy or longer books I do better with audio. The performance and emotional appeal of the narrator help me into the story. You could try it. It was available at all 3 of my libraries on audio with a wait. The second one thankfully, had no wait at all. Thank you! Enjoy your reading this week!

    • I’m glad to hear it. I generally enjoy this author. Somehow the audio publisher lost my email so I’m getting it a bit later along with my July audiobook. This author generally releases her series only a few months apart rather than a year like some of the fantasy books do.

  12. Melissa (My World...in words and pages)

I understand being tired after working all day, especially with the heat! Hope you enjoy your new reads. Have a great week!

    • yes, especially when it is a 10 hour day and you are only off your feet for about 25 minutes. I’m looking forward to being off this week and doing lots of things but of course, reading which is going well. Enjoy your week and thanks for visiting with me.

  13. Sometimes it is just so hard to find time to blog! I hope you get a break in the heat, or try the pool. 🙂 I loved the Katherine Arden books! They were so good.

Try and stay cool. Have a great week!

    • Well it did rain all day yesterday and is cloudy and periods of rain today. I want to go out in the yard since it is not sunny and pulling weeds is easier after a rain but when I took the dog out, the mosquitoes were out and about, too. So I’ll continue with the laundry and other cleanup for a bit. It’s still going to get to 88 today without any sun.

    • It is part of a series I want to read. Even though it is farther along in the series, it was a great deal so I decided to buy it.
