The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received.
We went to the YMCA nearest us to see it. It’s very nice and clean. We took a Restorative Yoga class which was good. We still want to try the Water Exercise class, maybe today. We were going on Wednesday but both of us felt like we might be coming down with something. We rested and didn’t get sick after all.
After taking a week to document the tote with sock yarn, I finished up the yarn storage documentation on Tuesday night. And while it wasn’t in any of the bins I documented, I found the yarn I was hunting! It was in a tote for partial skeins and project leftovers (which it is). That’s exactly where I thought it would be so I don’t know why I didn’t see it in there the first time. UGH. So now I can make my hat with it.
I’ve been doing lots of odd things I’ve wanted to do for awhile. It’s great. We did get our new 2019 health cards this week. I’ve been going through library books to find new soup recipes. Tonight I’m making a Carmelized onion – sweet potato soup to go with a roasted turkey breast. I got turned down for 3 things on Edelweiss, so I took some time to make some updates to my profile. We will see if it helps?
It’s in the 50s and I need to get out and get more leaves raked for the January pickup. But tomorrow I am taking the day off to sleep in, read and then hopefully finally get to sewing. I’ve done some knitting this week, but no sewing yet. I have also watched a little tv with my daughter after dinner. We are both big fans of Numb3rs. I watched the whole series over the years, but she hadn’t. We love math, applied mathematics. We also love CyberChase (PBS) and Donald (Duck) in Mathematics Land.
I keep forgetting to ask – What conferences have you attended and which do you like?
I’m trying to plan my time and budget to take in a few this year. I’m already going to Book Bonanza in August which is in Dallas TX. That has more romance authors I think.
In the past, I have attended RT in Atlanta GA. Wow that was huge. I only went Saturday and Sunday. They aren’t doing this convention anymore but it had it all. I went to NOLAStorycon in NOLA which was more a combo of UF/PNR and romance with Ilona Andrews, Jeaniene Frost, Kelley Armstrong, Molly Harper, Melissa Marr, Kevin Hearne, Chloe Neill, Rachel Vincent and many more. I LOVED this one but it isn’t happening annually at least. I liked the more UF/PNR authors rather than straight romance. I went to DragonCon in 2017 and it was amazing, and huge. I couldn’t fit in everyone I wanted to meet who was there even. But I loved meeting Patricia Briggs, Jim Butcher, Faith Hunter, Chloe Neill, Jack Campbell, EJ Stevens, Larry Niven, and more. I might go back there this year. I also went to Apollycon in 2018 for Saturday, and it seems somewhat more romance slanted as well.
I am thinking of those more with fantasy, scifi. Maybe Emerald City Comic Con or something like that? It looks like Salt Lake City ComicCon has quite a group of authors also. I’d like to meet Robin Hobb, Brandon Sanderson, Devon Monk, and some other more West coast authors. What suggestions do you have for me? Actually, I enjoy meeting other bloggers as much or more than the authors sometimes.
I have SO many things I want to read and listen. I am finally reading one 2019 book for the COYER Read-athon. I have some KU things since I’m doing a 3 month deal. There’s a new KU deal I can add on by January 11th, to get 6,12, or 24 months at a reduced monthly price. I’m also looking hard at the Romance package deal to add on to Audible for 4 months, 1 month free and 3 months at $4.95. I have to sign up by 12/25.
This week is our Top 10 posts for 2018. December 31 will be all my challenge results posts. I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Season’s Greetings for all the holidays you celebrate!
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality. These are the exciting ARCs I received this week:
Ivan by Kit Rocha The Dreamers by Karen Thompson Walker
Thank you so much Penguin Random Audio, and Tantor Audio.
Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.
I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.
I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.
If you like this and want to see me do the Sunday post, as often as I can manage, leave me a comment and let me know.

Sorry about the declines on Edelweiss. It happens but it always makes me sad when I am declined for a book. I am so happy that you found your yarn! I am also happy that you didn’t end up getting sick. Sometimes a bit of rest is just the thing. I am quite tempted by the Audible Romance Package but I don’t know how many books I would be able to fit into the next few months with my new reading plan. I have been to local book signings but no conferences yet. My daughter spends our families travel budget all by herself lately. Maybe someday! Have a great week, Anne!
Thank you Carole! Yes, that’s it. I feel sad, rejected when I get declined. I know I’m not the biggest or best blog but I know I would read and review on a timely bases. I’m a little behind on audiobooks but catching up. I didn’t have a system to make sure I got them in timely and now I do. It wouldn’t have mattered except I wanted so many. And my Netgalley is 94% . I only have ONE book now that is old, the rest are new and not yet published.
I really wish the best week for you! Enjoy your family and a bit of time for yourself.
I tried to use Edelweiss a couple of times, but I didn’t like their site (not user-friendly, IMO, although I’ve heard they’ve changed some things). So…they haven’t “declined me, I’m declining them!” LOL.
Actually, I have more books than I can read from NetGalley and author requests.
Enjoy your holidays and thanks for sharing. Here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES
Yes I agree with your point. I rarely use Edelweiss as I do find it much harder to use. There are just a couple things I wanted which were only there. Honestly, I think I will get one anyway through a blog tour but it’s still frustrating. The other one I can get the audio version – no problem – so again it’s not that big of a deal.
Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I’ll be watching for all your great food and lovely books.
How did I miss The Cowboy’s Christmas Bride? Luckily it’s still free so I got it. Thanks for the tip!
I did go to a conference a very long time ago. It was a RWA conference, but since I’m no longer a member, I haven’t been to any in awhile.
I hope you have a great holiday. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
I’m glad you were able to get it free! Did you like the RWA conference? I think they are still doing that one.
Thank you!
You guys had a nice productive week and yay, you found your yarn. 😉
Enjoy your Christmas, Anne!
Thanks Sophia! I’m halfway finished with the hat. Merry Christmas!
Sleeping in. Would love to do that again. Happy holidays and enjoy your latest set of freebies.
I may try to sleep in tomorrow or at least not set the alarm. I’ll probably wake up extra early. Thanks, I hope you get a chance to relax and enjoy your holiday!
I am not a big fan of Edelweiss. I am auto approved by avon, and thats pretty much the only thing I used it for. I NEVER request anything from there.
Merry Christmas!
I think it’s harder to use than Netgalley. Avon usually doesn’t like me and their parent and related branches. Merry Christmas and have a wonderful holiday break.
Yay for getting the yarn organized (always a gargantuan task!) and finding the yarn you were looking for. And I hope you both find some exercise classes you like.
I haven’t really been to any book conventions, other than the National Book Festival in DC (which I’ve attended twice, but not since they moved it off the Mall and into the convention center.) We’ve usually focused our vacation spending on seeing family, since my husband’s siblings, both sets of my parents, my sister, and now our daughter all live at least half a continent away. But I’d like to do more local book festivals and conventions, if I can.
Happy holidays, if you’re celebrating any this week… and a joyful and book-filled week if you’re not!
Thanks. We celebrate Christmas. I’m just going to relax tomorrow. That means getting up when I wake up and reading a bit. In the afternoon, I hope to get to sewing. I am going to have to wrap gifts at some point. On Christmas morning I am going to make a swedish tea ring which is pretty much cinnamon rolls in a ring and I use apples and raisins. I’m nearly half finished with my hat. Enjoy your week.
I’d like to go to DragonCon if it was a little closer. NOLAStorycon sounds pretty great too, I like that line up of authors you listed- I’m getting more familiar with those names as I read more UF. 🙂 Oh and that soup you mentioned- that sounds pretty darn good!
The dreamers has a neat cover!
Merry Christmas!!!
DragonCon is amazing. I feel that way about Emerald City Comic Con. The soup does smell great. I love trying the new recipes. I read someone else’s review about The Dreamers, it wasn’t what I expected. I’m excited to try it. You have an great holiday week and Merry Christmas.
I’ve never attended a conference. Maybe one day…
Sorry about Edelweiss. You’re really great about posting your reviews timely so I don’t know what that’s about.
Have a great week!
Ah well, I updated the profile with some of the things they probably need. But Avon doesn’t like me. Maybe it’s that I just don’t like historical romance too much. But the audio division is awesome too me so I just get their stuff that way. You have a very lovely holiday. Merry Christmas!
Hooray on finding the yarn! It’s always nice to find you didn’t lose something later. I haven’t been to any conferences, but I’ve considered PennedCon (except I’m not a fan of their lineup) and St. Louis Comic Con in my future (maybe on this one). I’ve seen the KU deal as well! I’ve considered it, but I might not since I might not be using it as much after my 3 months are up.
I’m about half finished with the hat I’m making with the yarn! I ordered myself some yarn for Christmas so I might do one of those projects next. I am using my KU deal this time some altho the first 3 months I got at the end of July I didn’t manage to read one book. I have such a long long list. We will see how I do at fitting some of them in the next 2 months.
Nice book haul. Hope you enjoy. I’ve not attended any conventions, but maybe one day. Have a wonderful week. Happy Holidays and Happy Reading!
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Season’s Greetings for any holidays you celebrate! My best to you and yours. Thanks for all your support Angela.
I think next year I’m going to do my own version of Top 10 of 2019 and ask everyone to join along since the one I participated in didn’t do it this year and had to do my own. But I will probably need to get Michelle at Limabean Designs to help with better graphics than the quickie I put together for this year.
That sounds wonderful on the Top 10. I just did my own this year, since the one I participate in didn’t do it this year either. Have a wonderful week!
OK I’ll plan for 2019!
You’ve sure been busy. I’d love to attend some conventions but they’re never close enough to drive to. I have been getting some odd tasks done too. Glad you found your yarn. Enjoy those new books and have a Merry Christmas!
Well those conventions were over a 3 year period. I only manage to go to 1-2 a year. You have a wonderful Christmas, enjoy your holiday! Thanks for reading!
Awww, I wish I could go to Book Bonanza. That’s supposed to be a great one. But I just can’t afford the time and the money. Wow! 50’s! And we just got a big snow storm over the past couple of days. With some rain, granted, which makes it even worse because it turns to ice. But we’ll survive.
It’s all over the map. 50s this week, 60s the next couple of days, but by the end of next week freezing and maybe more snow or at least freezing rain. 40-50 daytime highs with 30s overnight are a common / average here.
I am trying to be more discerning about my conference choices as they can be expensive. I find the people – and especially the blogger friends – who go are the best part. I don’t care too much about autographs as I do digital. I do like to get photos with my favorite authors though. It’s fun sometimes when you can get early copies of books or sometimes swag. I especially loved the art prints from Dan DeSantos at DragonCon (he does the Patricia Briggs and Diana Rowland covers). Have a lovely holiday week! Thanks for visiting me.
