Perched on the soft tar of a New York City rooftop, a mysterious sniper fires a single round from a fifty caliber rifle. Five stories below, his target collapses on the marble steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, dead.
Crime reporter Jane Cole needs this story badly. Suspended NYPD cop Robert Warren is desperate to clear his name. They don't trust each other, but they make the perfect team. And as Cole and Warren track the killer, they uncover a plot so ruthless it shocks the conscience, a crime so expansive it will rock the world.
Somehow, I thought with the title, The Crime Beat, I would be getting a true crime story. The genre is mystery / thriller and it is fiction. The main characters are an unlikely duo. Jane is a crime beat reporter who is a widow. Rob is a former marine, cop and now tracking a serial killer conspiracy.
Jane and Rob meet near the first crime in the series, set in New York. Jane had written a story about Rob using too much force and got him in trouble. But Rob ends up having some key information which puts them on the track of the killers. Between them, they utilize their specialized contacts to find the first killer. But this is not the only killer, based on Rob’s information.

The Crime Beat, Episode 2: Washington, D.C.
At the rooftop bar of the famed Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C., a former Vice President is assassinated. Across the Potomac River, a mysterious sniper leaves a fifty caliber rifle on the bed of his hotel room, then disappears.Crime reporter Jane Cole and NYPD cop Robert Warren have clues no one else has. But as they arrive in D.C. to investigate, they're hit with a series of coverups and misdirections. And as they close in on the killer, they realize that they, too, are being tracked.
The Crime Beat, Washington DC, picks up exactly where the New York story ends. I am seeing you will want to read the series in order and the entire series may be more like one really long book broken into smaller books.
Jane and Rob track down more clues but also have attracted attention from those doing the killings. They are being followed and tracked now, maybe by more than one group. Things are dicey. They continue to be first to the information but here they do not catch a killer. Believing the next event will be in Miami, they head there.
Each episode is relatively short, and they continue to grow in information, suspense and action. I keep wondering who they can trust because the list seems very short. Politics, cops, and news media all seem to have corruption.
Narration:
I’ve enjoyed this narrator previously on a police procedural series and this is a similar genre. Her male and female voices were comfortably appropriate. I enjoyed listening at my usual 1.5x speed.

So, it’s a serial? Sounds intriguing but I’ll wait for all of the installments to release.
yes but the audio books are separate by episode. I don’t know if they will do one with all the episodes. I think it would be too long since each of these is about 4 hours, so half the size of a regular book.
