After Sheriff Bree Taggert’s takedown of cold-blooded murderer Travis Ekin, his family vows revenge. Travis’s mother and brothers are every bit as violent, and Bree is in their crosshairs.
To complicate matters, Bree’s best friend, Dana Romano, walks into her date’s home and finds him shot in the chest. Dana tangles with an unidentified intruder, but he escapes through the back door. The crime scene is in another police department’s jurisdiction, and the lead investigator focuses on Dana as the prime suspect.
The Bree Taggert series is a police procedural with other layers of complex families, found family, some romance. There is also a K9 component which is growing. Bree’s department has its own trained K9 unit now which has been certified. Cady and Matt originally trained Greta and she has done very well here.
Characters from the author’s Morgan Dane and Scarlet Falls series got involved in the cases here. These series are earlier but do not need to be read first. They are fantastic and highly recommended reads. I would read this series itself in order as they are excellent and both the world and relationships continue to develop.
Catch Her Death has new threats to their family. Dana has some romance and a close brush with death. Matt’s family steps up and forms a tighter bond with Bree and hers. I love these connections and their support. Matt and Bree continue to improve and develop their relationship, too.
There is a murder investigation which is complex and a police chief is trying to bring Dana into it. There’s also a huge drug and guns bust Bree makes of a criminal family at their business. There are brothers and cousins who have had various run-ins with the law. During the bust, they find another dead body. The evidence eventually sorts things out but the process is harrowing.
I am thrilled to see there will be at least two more books in the Bree Taggert series, On Her Watch in May 2024 and Track Her Down in January 2025, because I have loved every book in the series.

I read the scenes with Greta on the job and thought of you. 😉
I do love how the relationships progress and the cases they are up against are still razor sharp. Fun seeing Morgan back in action again.
yes to everything you said. It’s interesting to see Greta start her working career and so successfully. I wasn’t sure about the focus on Dana and she seemed insecure a lot with her injury which isn’t what I expect of her.
I just got the audiobook and will probably start it this weekend. I’m thrilled more book are planned in the series, too. Great that Dana is featured more in this story.
Wonderful review, Anne💜
Thank you Jonetta. yes I love this series so much. I care about the characters. Now they have a K9 unit!
It’s wonderful to hear your enthusiasm for the Bree Taggert series! The mix of police procedural, complex family dynamics, and the growing K9 component sounds intriguing.
Thanks Ethan. They are all 4-5 heart reads, very good development of the world and characters with the layers of plots in professional and personal lives.
I love this series! I can’t wait to read this one…if only my library would hurry up and get some copies in. Bree is such a great character; I love her relationship with her niece and nephew, And with Matt. 😀
I’m sure you will enjoy it. It’s not out until Sept 12 and I’m not sure if the libraries can get KU books right away.
Sounds like an intense story! Glad you enjoyed it and that there are going to be more in the series.
I really love this series but the intensity level seems lower to me than something like Karin Slaughter’s books. I’m not sure why since some of the crime is more personal in this one which makes it more intense than investigating something unrelated to the investigators or their family.
Mhmmm I am intrigued!
I’ve loved this series from the start.
This sounds really good and I don’t think I’ve read a negative review of any of this author’s books. I really like that it sounds like there’s a bit of character depth. So often in suspense titles I find the characters to be pretty flat. I definitely want to read this series!
yes, I have read several of this author’s series and enjoyed them all. This one is especially good though.
