Mal Ericson, drummer for the world famous rock band Stage Dive, needs to clean up his image fast - at least for a little while. Having a good girl on his arm should do the job just fine. Mal doesn’t plan on this temporary fix becoming permanent, but he didn’t count on finding the one right girl. Anne Rollins never thought she’d ever meet the rock god who plastered her teenage bedroom walls—especially not under these circumstances. Anne has money problems. Big ones. But being paid to play the pretend girlfriend to a wild life of the party drummer couldn’t end well. No matter how hot he is. Or could it?

A short review to update challenges

So I am continuing with the series, Stage Dive,  because it is fun and sexy and I love Andi Arndt.  I’m looking forward to getting back to the Dive bar series also. These characters show up there.

Mal is absolutely a ball of crazy energy.  But he uses that to hide any real feelings.  Anne is used to dealing with everything and so she’s fine.  She’s had to be fine because she was all there was for her and her sister.  Again, Play is told from the female point of view so you don’t get Mal’s perspective other than through his dialogue and actions.  Both Mal and Anne are going through some earth-shattering changes to their lives.

Luckily, they are there for each other. The world may not be very realistic, but the emotional development and progress of the characters is real. The attraction and caring which develops is fun and sexy. The band members are so tightly connected they are all present in this book which is great.

Narration:

Andi Arndt continues to do a great job with the narration for this series.  She’s a real favorite narrator, so it made it easy to choose to listen to the series rather than read them.  Her performance is a joy.  It is so fluent I can just absorb the story without worrying about the voices because they feel authentic.  I listened comfortably at 1.5x speed.

About Andi Arndt

Andi’s relatively neutral US English accent is a product of a Minnesota childhood, New Jersey high school years, and Maryland/DC/Virginia adulthood. Firm grounding in both theatre and broadcasting led to full-time work in voice over.

Mal is my favorite of all the band guys so this is the one I remember the best. He is just so fun. I can’t believe it’s been five years since I read this. One of these days I need to reread it. Glad you liked it!
