Make a deal with the devil and you might get what you want, but will it be what you need?
Jennifer Sylvester wants one thing, and that one thing is NOT to be Tennessee’s reigning Banana Cake Queen. Ever the perpetual good girl and obedient daughter, Jennifer is buckling under the weight of her social media celebrity, her mother’s ambitions, and her father’s puritanical mandates. Jennifer is officially desperate.
And desperate times call for Cletus Winston.
Cletus Winston is a puzzle wrapped in a mystery covered in conundrum sauce, and now he’s in a pickle. Despite being convinced of his own omniscience, extortion by the exalted Banana Cake Queen of Green Valley has taken him completely by surprise. So... what’s a maniacal mastermind to do?
Likely, the last thing you expect.
Penny Reid is the bomb; an absolute favorite author for the kind of contemporary romance I enjoy. Her books are smart and funny with relatable characters. All her series are amazing. This one is in the Winston Brothers series, set in Tennessee, with 6 boys and one girl as siblings.
Cletus. OMG. I. LOVE. CLETUS. He will be my book boyfriend forever. He’s not typical but I get him. He’s very smart, and funny, and controlled. Seeing the focused Cletus lose it, is precious. Cletus does not like bullies. He does like cars, music, pie, and making deals.
Jennifer is perhaps my favorite lady in this series. She has led a sheltered life, being home-schooled, and working in a bakery for her parents now. She lives with her parents and they decide everything for her. I seriously don’t like the way they treat her. In spite of being controlled and made a joke, Jennifer is awesome. She is strong, moral, smart, more than competent, KIND, RESPECTFUL, COMPASSIONATE and fun. She is so brave. I love her.
Beard Science is a love of family and discovery of self. It is intelligence and compassion fighting bullies and greed. It hurt my heart, then lifts and fills it and makes me laugh. The emotional ride is one I need and can take again and again.
I’m so very happy to get to see all the brothers again, and their women. Also, I am thrilled for the peek at Billy. I can already tell he will win my heart. Three boys down, three to go. I can’t wait. But I’m happy to linger with Cletus. JS.

I have Penny on my TBR. Once I catch up on a couple of contemporary series I’ve already started I’m going to work on her backlist.
I don’t know if I could read a book with a hero named Cletus. All I can think of is Cletus from The Simpsons. LOL Glad you enjoyed the book.
I have to say I agree with Melanie—Cletus is just not a name I think I could yell in bed 🙂 However, this does sound really good and not one I would have picked up based on that cover!
