Broke, almost homeless, and recently fired. Those are my official reasons for answering a wanted ad for a skeevy-looking bartender gig.
It went downhill the moment they asked me to do a trial shift instead of an interview — to see if I'd mesh with their "special" clientele. I think that part went great. Their customers were complete dickheads, and I was an asshole right back. That's the definition of fitting in, right?
I expected to get thrown out on my ass. Instead, they… offered me the job?
It turns out this place isn't a bar. It's a guild. And the three cocky guys I drenched with a margarita during my trial? Yeah, they were mages. Either I'm exactly the kind of takes-no-shit bartender this guild needs, or there's a good reason no one else wants to work here.
So what's a broke girl to do? Take the job, of course — with a pay raise.

A short review to update challenges
I read a review of Three Mages and a Margarita and decided I needed to read it. It is the first in the Guild Codex Spellbound series. Urban Fantasy is the best sometimes.
I loved the world-building and the characters. Tori is wonderful and she doesn’t have an easy situation. I enjoy her efforts to meet her goals and commiserate with her frustration with people. There was so much fun, some action and a few things to discover. I can’t wait to go on with the series.
Narration:
Cris Dukehart is a narrator I already know and enjoy. She did so well with all the characters and their feelings. I was able to listen at my usual 1.5x speed.

And another convert to the series! LOL I’m looking forward to trying these, too. Oooh, didn’t know Cris Dukehart was the audio narrator. Cool!
Yes and I have the next one from the library, dying to listen but ARCs first. GAH! I love it.
I loved all the novels and did read all of them for now but I haven’t posted my reviews yet.
I am excited to read more of them! Glad to know you thought they were good.
that cover and everything makes this look super good. thanks for sharing
People – including me – are loving this series. It is in KU but I am listening to the audiobooks from my library. I have more audio than reading time right now.
I devoured and loved these on audio and I’m just sitting here waiting for the next release on audio! So glad you enjoyed it! Psst…hubby and I listed to Fated on our trip. I just grabbed audio 2 and 3 today 🙂
I have the next one and am short on time to listen to it right now but hopefully by next week. We will see. I’m so excited about Fated! I hope you enjoy it as much as I am loving it. YAY! I’ve been following your trip since I know MN well.
I read this series so far in ebook, but it’s good to know the audio is well done too. I’ll keep that in mind, in case I ever want to do a re-read. I am really enjoying this series so far :).
Yes I hope to get to the next audio soon as I have it from the library.
