When I first landed a bartending job at the local guild, I didn't know a thing about magic. These days, I'm practically an expert on the different magical classes, but there's one nobody ever talks about: Demonica.

Turns out they have a good reason for that. My guild is strictly hellion-free, because who wants to risk life and limb to control the biggest bullies on the mythic playground? Well, some people do, and now, a demon has been loosed in the city. My three best friends are determined to slay it, but even badass combat mages are critically out-magicked. And that's not all. The monster they're tracking - it's not hiding. It's not fleeing. It's not leaving a trail of corpses everywhere it goes.

The demon is hunting, too. And in a city full of mythics, it's searching for deadlier prey.

If we can't unravel the demon's sinister motivations, more innocent people will die, but finding the answers means digging into dark secrets...and learning truths I never wanted to know.

A short review to update challenges

I continue to love the Guild Codex Spellbound series.  The characters are such a joy.  There was evil and danger a plenty in Demon Magic and a Martini.  It’s near Halloween and Tori is enjoying being part of the Crow & Hammer Guild, hanging out with her guys and even taking on a bit more responsibility at the bar.  She’s planning a fun Halloween party and working on some new menus for the bar.

Unfortunately, Tori has been avoiding things, as if pretending they aren’t there will make them go away. She really needs to learn more about both combat and defensive skills.  She has been very lucky to survive more than once, and the guys have helped her, even with their own injuries at times.  Now with a demon loose causing havoc, things are serious. Survival is more of a question, with more life-and-death situations.

Tori learns more about Ezra and his secrets. She accidentally discovers more about demons. She sees the guys now as not all powerful, wonderful as they are – they are in dire straights here.

I hope Tori does work to learn more about magic and take training to improve her skills.  I’m caught up now and have to wait for the next release, The Alchemist and an Amaretto.  Isn’t it October yet? *whines*  I do love this fun series.  They are in Kindle Unlimited currently but I’m listening to them on audio from the library.

Narration:

Cris Dukehart is my voice for Tori and with her point of view, it is a comfortable stream in my head. Her male and female voices seem right. She is doing a great job with her performance of this series.  I was able to listen at my usual 1.5x speed.

About Annette Marie

Annette Marie is the author of YA urban fantasy series Steel & Stone, its prequel trilogy Spell Weaver, and romantic fantasy trilogy Red Winter. Her first love is fantasy, but fast-paced urban fantasy, bold heroines, and tantalizing forbidden romances are her guilty pleasures. She proudly admits she has a thing for dragons, and her editor has politely inquired as to whether she intends to include them in every single book.

Annette lives in the frozen winter wasteland of Alberta, Canada (okay, it’s not quite that bad). She shares her life with her remarkably patient, comparatively sensible husband and their furry minion of darkness—sorry, cat—Caesar. When not writing, she can be found elbow-deep in one art project or another while blissfully ignoring all adult responsibilities.

  1. I read this series in ebook so far and am really enjoying it. It’s so much fun and i liked all the secrets that come to light in this one. I might re-read them eventually in audio as well as it sounds like the audio version is great too.
