The Walker Brothers…

Tall, dark, and deadly, these three brothers run Walker security. Each brother is unique in his methods and skills, but all share key similarities. They are passionate about those they love, relentless when fighting for a cause they believe in, and all believe that no case is too hard, no danger too dark. Dedication is what they deliver, results are their reward.

Royce Walker, a former FBI Agent, who’s opened a private security firm with his brothers, has always had the hots for the prim, proper Assistant District Attorney, but considered her hand’s off because of a family connection. However, when danger threatens Lauren, he isn’t willing to stand by and watch her get hurt. Now the passion for survival is only rivaled by the passion burning between them. And that passion, might just be the death of them both.

ICYMI is a post from my early days of blogging at Yummy Men & KickAss Chicks.   You can see the original review here.

Yummy Man – Royce Walker
Kick Ass Chick – Lauren Reynolds

Romantic suspense is a favorite genre of mine. You get the romance but also a mystery, some action and thrills. Hot Secretsthe first book iLisa Renee Jones’ Tall, Dark & Deadly series, has some excellent action with enough possible villains to make it puzzling. It is a fairly short book, a quick and easy read.

Royce is a good guy. He’s one of those alpha males who has never had a real, lasting relationship, though. He’s so attracted to Lauren and when she is in danger, all those alpha male, protective, caveman tendencies come out. He’s former FBI, smart, and knowledgeable. I love how he cares for Lauren and her safety. His relationship with his brothers is warm and enjoyable.

Lauren hasn’t ever really had anyone on her side since her mother died. Her father is too caught up in his political career. She loves him and supports him but she has no interest in going into politics herself, even though he wants it. Her stepmother and stepbrother are just bad news. I like how she is mostly honest with herself and others. She has a bit of the ‘I can’t fall in love and get hurt’, but who doesn’t?

There are other possible villains as well. Her ex-fiancé, also, was totally creepy. He and the stepbrother run her father’s law firm now that he’s a senator and I didn’t like either of them at all. Then there are many people she has successfully prosecuted as assistant district attorney. Her family, her ex and her office staff are not very well developed characters, the main players being Royce, Lauren, his brothers, and Lauren’s best friend, Julie.

The attraction and relationship between Royce and Lauren happens very fast. Things can happen that way, particularly when they were thrown together by a stressful situation. I guess they have known each other a bit, for some time, but it did seem a bit fast. It is steamy HOT too.

Hot Secrets was a fun, quick read with relatable main characters, some fun, sexy times, and a fast paced problem with Lauren being stalked and harassed. The series goes on with Royce’s brothers and since they look to be just as yummy,I hope to read about them, too.

  1. I just read my first Lisa Renee Jones and it was so good. So now I can’t wait to delve into this one especially with the suspense/mystery elements attached to it.
