The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.
Stacking The Shelves is also a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Marlene from Reading Reality. It’s all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!
Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.
Sunday I did my usual visiting and managed to get a bit organized for this busy week. I meal prepped salmon and made apple crisp with the apples that were getting older.
Monday I called to confirm all my daughter’s medical appointments. She has 4 this week and one next week, checkups before school begins the 17th. Luckily all but one can be done through telemedicine. It’s also time to refill all her scripts for the next 90 days. I paid her tuition last week but the class she waitlisted, Intro to Sociology, she got in, so they texted me about payment, but we dropped World Civilizations.
It was getting ready to rain for the hurricane, so it was finally a bit cooler. I started taking the old grill apart so it would fit in the trash can. I helped my daughter hang some art in her room. It rained hard overnight, but was sunny the next morning.
Tuesday, while Lulu did her business I pulled weeds. I pulled up a bunch of the mint as it was suffocating everything else in the bed. Mint will only go in a pot next year; it’s invasive. I also picked up some little tree branches in the yard, and cut some more which were too long. I had to get together everything for garbage and recycle tomorrow. I only put it out every other week because they only pick up recycle every 2 weeks. I have TWO recycle carts stuffed full. The garbage, if it weren’t for the grill, would just have 2 kitchen bags, one for each week. I trimmed some of Lulu’s fur around her neck and face. Later, my daughter held her while I did her monthly torture sess.. I mean nail trim. It went better than last month.
Wednesday, we had to leave the house for a doc appt. While we were out, I went to the post office to mail a giveaway, got cash at the atm, we picked up takeout, and prescriptions. Of course we wore masks. Thursday, we made another trip out of the house to all over town so we could get the text books used for my daughter’s classes. At least, we were successful.
Friday was another telemedicine with the gastro specialist. My daughter’s been having a lot of trouble the last two months and so her treatment will be changing this next week. I hope it helps her. While waiting for our Instacart delivery, I decided spur the moment to clean the drawers in the fridge and put in the liners I got for them last July.
I spent some time listening to audio books while setting up posts for new ARCs. I checked out the Audible 2-1 which looks like it is ending in 11 days after going on for half a year. I got my Audible originals for August. I made a list and looked over the books I have been emailed requests to review. I need to figure out my Series in a Month for next month and also start narrowing down options for next year’s Read-along.
Saturday, I got sick of my messy desk and did a cleanup. Then I decided to work on computer cleanup and backup. I went to pickup my daughter’s medications and chanced going into a store to get a new dog bed because they were on sale.
How do I do it?
So I used to do a computer backup to an external USB hard drive. Then I took the drive to my office so my computer and backup drive wouldn’t be at the same place. Now I don’t go to an office, so where should I keep the drive so it is not with a computer?
If you have any tips for me, please comment.
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality. These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):
Many excited thanks to Audible, Recorded Books, Berkley Romance, Tantor Audio (Crime Beat San Francisco no audio cover yet or Goodreads listing) ,
(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)
I couldn’t pass up this Audible daily deal British mystery.
Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.
I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.
I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.
If you like this and want to see me do the Sunday post, as often as I can manage, leave me a comment and let me know.

You always amaze with all that you seemed to get accomplished each week. 🙂 I really need to do a good fridge clean-out. Maybe next weekend. And a desk cleaning is way overdue. Working from home means I have two pc’s on my desk (for security reasons, one is solely for work use) and less workspace. So things keep getting shoved to the sides and it looks terrible. Not to mention that I work so much better with a clean desk. I hope you have a great week, Anne!
Thank you Tanya. It’s reached the point where I can’t stand the mess and it feels better to have cleaned up. I ordered an organizer online to finish the desk cleanup so the “pile” is more organized. Now I can find the stuff I need to do. I’ve been neglecting the yard but it’s either hot or rainy.
Glad to hear your daughter got the classes she wanted, I hope her medical appointments go well this week.
Have you got family or a good friend nearby? My mother has a drive with a backup of my photographs on it (though come to think of it I haven’t updated it in about 5 years). I also keep a back up external that I can grab in an emergency.
Wishing you a great reading week
I don’t really have anyone that close here but I realized 2 things. One is if I REALLY wanted an offsite I could rent a small safe deposit box. Also, the real answer is to purchase online “cloud” backup. I utilize this already by putting all my photos on Shutterfly (which is free) and Google has a small backup which I use to backup all my data files like word processing and spreadsheets. The other big thing is downloaded books / audiobooks that aren’t at Amazon / Audible so I need to get some online backup option for that. Thanks for suggesting an idea though.
Sounds like a super productive week Anne! I hope your daughter’s new plan helps her feel a lot better! And yay for getting into her wait listed class. I’ve been MIA a couple weeks – did you find out how they’re doing the class schedules for remote learning?
I’m excited to see what you pick for the read along next year. I have enjoyed Mercy – even if it did take off on my own – they’ were too good to read slowly (even the second time around) lol! What book am I supposed to be on? I did slow down, MAYBE I’m with y’all again ? next year I’ll try to do better about rwading WITH the group. (I always messed this up in school too – finished the book when the teacher wanted us to read 2 or 3 chapters ?)
For computer back up I use One Drive. I do pay (I want to say it’s around $60/year but don’t quote me… It’s in my budget for that month and otherwise I forget). I have 1T I believe, I’m not even close to filling it. I like they with it being in a cloud I can access it anywhere and I don’t have to worry about losing / breaking a physical device. And I also use it to auto back up all my photos on my mobile phone.
Have a great week and stay safe!!
Thanks I did feel like I got lots done for a change. I’m ignoring the yard work as it’s hot or rainy.
I’ll be super excited if you join more in the Read-along next year. We are on Fire Touched with the post this Friday. I love it when people can link up their reviews so we get everyone’s thoughts and impressions.
You’re so smart. I did figure this out somewhat about 9 months ago. I have Google backup for just wp,ss files they do 15MB for free. Shutterfly will take all your photo for free so I started loading them all up there. But I also have books / audiobooks which aren’t on Amazon and was debating about which online service to use for those. I probably should have done that instead of buying another external drive since my daughter’s external drive failed.
You always seem so organized and productive, I need to step up my game! Hope you have a good week, Anne?
Well, not always. I AM always thinking about organizing and planning but the doing doesn’t always happen. It was a great week on the doing front though.
You’ve got some great audiobook pickups, Anne? I’m hoping to get The Suicide House.
Did you feel those tremors this morning??? They were pretty strong here.
Have a GREAT week!
Thank you I was VERY excited about those audio ARCs. NO! I read about the earthquake on Twitter but I slept right through it! It’s the latest I have slept in awhile. But it’s been a busy, busy week.
Reading your post always makes me feel plain lazy! You are such a whirlwind of activity… And yes – I learnt the hard way about mint, too. We have two pots of the stuff, which is definitely not allowed to run loose in the garden. Though right now it needs replacing, though I’m waiting for this heatwave to ease up a bit (I cannot believe I’ve just typed that…) Have a good week, Anne:)
Ah you say that but many weeks I don’t feel like I do enough. This week was actually a great one on the doing. I’m always on the organizing and planning; I just don’t always get it accomplished. This upcoming week I hope for some more reading time. I’ve been mostly ignoring the yard work because it’s been hot or rainy. I don’t like to mow when it’s 32C or pouring rain.
You had an active week. Ya, mint not for the garden. It needs it’s own pot. I learned that the hard way too.
Happy Reading and have a great week.
It was a very active week. I feel better for it. How did I NOT know this about mint? It smells great but I haven’t had a garden for maybe 10 years.
If I go shopping or run errands I wear the mask in the store. I feel like its just part of being a responsible citizen. I hate it though lol looking forward to when it gets back to normal. But for now I will do what I can do to be safe and live life fully.
Good for you getting your computer desk cleaned, I do so much on my computer every day, I have to have it cleaned every day lol I see a Jessica Clare on your new additions….LOVE that. Hope you enjoy that.
Yes I always wear the mask and go out as little as possible. It feels so good to have cleaned up. Now I just need to file the stuff in the pile on top of the file cabinet. And do the stuff in the TODO pile. But now it’s organized so it’s easier. I love the ARCs I got. I don’t like to read the Christmas books until after Thanksgiving though.
I haven’t found 2 books I liked in the whole 6 months of the 2 for 1 sale at audible. It was a bummer. I hope your daughters new treatment helps her feel better.
Yes it has been a bit slim pickings which is odd. I think I got 2 or 4 over the whole 6 months. I already own many of the ones I would have purchased.
I really hope we are getting to solving some of my daughter’s problems. She has had such a hard time over the last 10 years. We have solved the OBGYN pain and now if we can alleviate her gastro pains, then there will just be the lingering anxiety that her body will betray her.
I wish I had even half of your energy. And my house and yard are in desperate need of tender care. I just don’t seem to have a focus right now.
I am totally with you. I usually feel like I have no energy but I finally got a little this week. It feels good. Partly it is too hot or rainy to do the yard work.
Sounded like a really productive week and yay for a good rain without any dangerous weather. Haha, nail trimming sounds like I’m torturing both felines the way they carry on. So do baths, flea treatments and groomings. 😉
I have one of those fireproof safe boxes that I store copies of documents in and I put my external harddrive in that. If you had a family member near by, you might store at their place, too.
Thanks for the suggestions. I think I should also look at online backups. I use some but I need to look at more.
You’ve had a very productive week!
I have a big pot of mint on my patio, it started off as a little tiny plant I got in the supermarket, well it exploded! I didn’t realise how quickly it spread, it smells nice though!
Have a good week.
I love the way it smells but obviously it needs to be in a pot next time.
You had a very busy week, and it sounds like it never ends, with appointments, etc.
Enjoy your books and your week, and here are my WEEKLY UPDATES
Thank you! I’m feeling run ragged. But at least most of the appointments are handled.
I once planted some mint in my back yard and it grew everywhere!! So yes, planting in a pot is always better.
Computer backup and clean up is essential , but a pain to get done.
Enjoy your reading and listening week!
It’s feeling good to get some of those things handled. This week should be more relaxed.
You’re in the Raleigh area, right? Did you feel the earthquake this morning? I have friends from Asheville to Raleigh who report feeling it! 2020! What a year! Enjoy your week!
Yes I’m in Raleigh but apparently I was finally sleeping well and missed it. Thank you.
I need to weed out mint from my garden too! It is very invasive!
Sorry to hear your daughter has not been feeling well. Hope she’s able to get some meds that help.
I can’t wait to read Her Christmas Cowboy!
Only a pot for mint next year. It does smell good and we like to put it in our tea. My daughter did the clean out this afternoon and feels MUCH better. Now if she can keep it going regular. I can’t read Christmas books until after Thanksgiving.
It sounds like you had a full week. I meant to get some major cleaning done this weekend, but it hasn’t happened. We just got back from the park. There’s a little lake that is great for a stroll. It was nice to get out for a little bit. We all wore our masks and kept away from others. School starts tomorrow for my daughter. She’s not too excited. Not exactly the way any of us wanted her to begin the 4th grade, having to do it all online. It is what it is though and we’ll make the best of it. Better to be safe. I hope you enjoy your new books and have a good week, Anne!
Thank you! Nothing is quite usual this year. I’m just happy to be home and have food. My daughter insisted on doing her college online this fall which I agree but in the past she never wanted to do any online classes (until 2020) even when she was in a wheelchair a couple years ago. I am happy to have the best books right now.
Sounds like a nice and productive week! I hope your daughter feels better soon. I know what it’s like to hop from doctor to doctor. Not fun.
I finished The Suicide House last week and LOVED it. He’s one of my favorite authors; I’ve read all of his books. I hope you like it!
-Lauren
Thanks Lauren. I love Donlea also. I read the first one about Rory (on audio) and really loved it so I was excited for this one.
My daughter has had so many health issues. We have most of it solved now except gastro. She is feeling much better tonight after the clean out this afternoon, now if she can just keep things more regular.
You had a fairly busy week! Enjoy all your reads!
Thank you. It was great to get some things finished.
Sounds like you knocked out another busy week! It’s astounding you can get so much done and still manage a lot of reading. I need to follow your footsteps a little more… Have a great week!
It was a better week than most. I couldn’t stand the mess or inactivity.
I don’t have mint but coriander is another herb that takes over everything and needs growing in pots… It’s been my husband’s bane of the herb garden this year!
You’ve had another productive week… I’m glad your daughter got her waitlisted class!
It’s been a good week. I got a lot of things finished. I hope to do a lot more reading this next week.
Are you trying to keep the backup drive offsite? Because if not, I would suggest a fireproof safe for safest route. If just trying to keep elsewhere – put it in the car?
I am thinking of trying some potted herbs next year – I don’t garden and don’t really have a green thumb. But I am starting to use fresh (having to buy from store/market). Any tips? Remember, I live where it’s cold from October – May!
Yes I am trying to keep offsite. The problem with the car would be extreme heat. I just need to bit the bullet and get a cloud backup service for us. I researched this maybe 9 months ago and didn’t reach any decision. I have Google Drive for their 15MB free which backups up email and my wp, ss stuff. I have all my photos up at Shutterfly for free. It’s the itunes data that is huge I need to backup.
I think it depends on what herbs you like and would use. Chives will live in pot outside even when it gets to 20 below. You can’t kill them. The other things I like are basil, rosemary which both require hot and sunny. I haven’t had them do well when I brought them inside in the winter so I just grow them for the season and plant again the next year. I sometimes have done mint, oregano, and thyme. Mint is invasive, probably also tough to kill.
I’m impressed with all you accomplish each week, too, Anne. It looks like it’s going to be super rainy here the next few days, and hopefully with that some cooler temps, at least for a few days? Mint really is an invasive her. My neighbor had it go wild in her yard before.
Um well last week was more productive. This week I thought it was going to rain at least a little every day and it rarely does. At least I’ve been able to use the grill more.
Your weekly updates always make me feel lazy. I cleaned the house and got the dog groomed, but other than that, I watched TV. I hope you have a great week!
Apparently my signature link didn’t update properly so this is last week. See this week for the lazy version. Last week was an abnormal productive bubble.
Fingers crossed for your daughter’s new treatment that she starts feeling better, and that her appointments go well. I actually have scheduling a few for my son on my list for today! It sounds like you had a great, productive week! I think I might make a peach cobbler now, I feel inspired!
oops my link went to last week. We finally got insurance approval on the med today. So we will see if it helps.
I know nothing about planting but Anne you seem to know what you’re doing. Here’s hopin’ the weather is tolerable where you are.
