This is a new feature I developed where each month we will look at our favorite – the best – series in a genre or topic.
The topic here, by my definition, is a series with main characters who work with dogs, or a dog is a main part of their lives. These are the ones which came to mind. I enjoyed some more than others. The team had to help me find some of these.
Since I haven’t read everything, it’s a subset of the possibilities. I’m sure I am forgetting some great authors. There are also plenty of authors I have yet to read. Please share your favorites with me in the comments, also.
My favorite Dogs series are (in no particular order):
Dogfather, Dogmother A Dog Lover’s Mystery Melanie Travis
by Roxanne St. Claire by Susan Conant by Laurien Berenstein
Rescue Me Raine Stockton Dog Mysteries Lucky Dog
by Debbie Burns by Donna Ball by Julia London

I’m familiar with some of these but haven’t read them. I do love the Neah Bay series by Owen Laukkanen which has a dog, but I’m not sure if it fits your criteria. I’m hoping he writes more books in the series!
Well if the dog is a key character it fits, although I was not choosing K9 for this post. I already had this series on my radar but hadn’t gotten around to it yet.
I love K-9 Special Ops by Tee O’fallon, True Heroes by Piper J Drake, and the Rocky Mountain K9 Unit by Katie Ruggle!
Have a magical holiday season!
I love those too Eva. I have done multiple K9 series posts. This time I meant to feature regular dogs.
Oops, sorry~ I know I’ve read some with dogs in them, but I don’t remember, so I will have to think on it a bit!
It’s fine Eva. I was just going for a different type of dog because there can’t be enough books with dogs. lol
Too True!
I just got up to date in Julia London’s series so that’s top of mind for me. I’ve started Roxanne St. Claire’s series and enjoyed it so much I’ve collected all of the books.
I have also collected the Dogfather books and some of the Dogmother. But I haven’t read them all sadly.
I enjoyed the Debbie Burns series set at the shelter. I read a couple from another one involving three sisters finding romance, but can’t remember the name of the series. I have that Roxanne St. Claire- I can read it for a Thrifty Thursday maybe. 🙂
I love that Debbie Burns series and want to finish reading it! I read the Stt. Claire book as a Thrifty Thursday and have read more of the series and collected many of the books. You should read it and link it up, it’s a great book.
The Finders series by Jeffrey Burton is about dogs trained to be cadaver dogs & so there’s a mystery each time and he and his dogs work with the cops. The first couple are especially good, Also, I’m pretty sure you’d have read some of the dog books by David Rosenfelt.
Terrie @ Bookshelf Journeys
yes I have read both of these series. I didn’t feel like the Rosenfelt books really had much of a focus on the dogs but possibly the newer K9 spinoff might. I included Jeffrey Burton’s series in a K9 post I think as it is trained, service dogs rather than regular dogs.
I have not read any of these. But I voted for You Lucky Dog because I’ve heard Julia London is a good author
These are a mix between mystery and romance series.
I may have read one or two of Laurie Berenson’s books, but all the other series are new to me. Mu favorite series featuring a dog is Nancy Coco’s Candy Coated Mystery Series. Think it’s more for the Mackinac Island setting than Mal, the dog who invariably finds the body.
Well these are half mystery and half romance so a nice mix. I’ve enjoyed them all.
Steve N. Lee dog books are fantastic
I’ll have to check into them. Thank you Carole.
I haven’t read any of these, although the Lucky Dog series is on my TBR. I added a couple series I have read. And then The Dachshund Wears Prada by Stefanie London is on my bookshelf to read because, dachshund, lol.
This is a mix with some romance series and some more mystery series.
