The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.
Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.
Sunday, it already rained and now it’s humid. The smoke alarm went off at 3:14am. It’s so loud but at least it turned off quickly and nothing was happening. It took me awhile to go back to sleep. My auto share to Instagram has stopped working since Friday. I do it by an IFTTT applet which normally they email when it fails but they haven’t yet.
Monday, it’s rainy and humid, another day to stay inside. I’m listening to some compelling audiobooks. There were some reviews to be written. I’m behind again with stuff for this week not complete. I was busy reading library books through yesterday. I worked on sewing a large pile of my daughter’s shirts which felt wrong to her. I picked some tomatoes from the garden. I want to have a BLT.
Tuesday, it’s cloudy, cooler and humid. There will be more rain. We had a nice walk this morning. I stayed up too late reading so I’m tired. Yesterday I disconnected and reconnected my IFTTT app and it’s working now. YAY!
Wednesday, it’s still cloudy, cooler and horribly humid. The rain is predicted for all day but we haven’t been getting it as much. We walked the dogs a shorter amount and I forgot to change and wore my slippers instead of my shoes.
Thursday, the weather was much nicer after the hurricane went through overnight. The temperature and humidity both dropped a lot; it’s glorious. So I have a couple days to do some outside work before it warms up again. It was supposed to rain all day for a few days this week but overall we got little. So the dogs also got to enjoy a nice walk instead of a quick out into the rain. I made myself a BLT for lunch. I watered before dinner since we haven’t gotten as much rain. We went out after dinner to look at the super moon. I was reminded of the long list of things I need to do tomorrow. It looks like Saturday will still be nice if I don’t get the mowing in tomorrow.
Friday, since I had lots to do I stayed up late reading which meant I didn’t get going early. Sigh. The weather is still beautiful today so I really hope it holds for tomorrow. I put the french bread in the pan molds to raise while I ran the errands. I took back an Amazon item to UPS, then to Aldi for a few things. I finally changed the battery in my car key fob which has been giving me trouble for a couple weeks. I hope it’s that and not the part inside the car. We tried to have a quick dinner but everything took too long. Then we were off to Game Night. The first game Pictures was ok but we both agreed we don’t want to play it again. Then we played Hive Mind which was fun. I read kind of late.
Saturday, another day with lower temperatures 84F / 29C and the last day of somewhat lower humidity. I took forever to do basic computer stuff. Then I went out and did the whole yard with trimmer, edger and mowing. I’m getting a bit better with the edger. I sprayed the weeds in the driveway cracks. Then I watered the gardens.
This next week will go back to HOT. 99F / 37C with a bit more humidity.
I am going to participate in Chapter 3. It runs from September – December. The strict rules are those from the very first COYER.
Here is the announcement post and complete history and rules.
- Every book you read MUST be in an electronic format – meaning eBook or Audiobook. It’s okay to start a book before September 1st, you must be less than half way for it to count, then review it during COYER.
- The books must be FREE or NEARLY FREE! This includes review books, tour books, NetGalley, Edelweiss, etc. What’s nearly free? No more than $5 for eBooks and no more than $7.50 for Audiobooks (or the equivalent in your currency). Library books, borrowed books, or Kindle Unlimited, Amazon Prime books, and Audible Plus Catalog books do not qualify.
August Reading: I had big reading month. I managed to read 31 books. Audiobooks continue to help me read more. Some count for more than one challenge. I listened to 17 audiobooks, read 16 library books, 31 COYER reads, and 7 books which I already own.
All Library books (including ones not reviewed on the blog) 2023 Library Love Challenge
I did manage to read 7 books I own (goal is 3 per month):
- 🎧 An Accidental Death by Peter Grainger
- Murder One by Allen Kent
- 🎧 But For the Grace by Peter Grainger
- 🎧 Luck and Judgement by Peter Grainger
- 🎧 Shattered by Kevin Hearne
- 🎧 After That Night by Karin Slaughter
- An Eye for an Eye by Allen Kent
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Reading Reality. These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):
All my thanks to Ace, Avon Books, and Brilliance Audio.
(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)
NONE
Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.
I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.
I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

I think a BLT sounds good too. 🙂 And isn’t it nice when the humidity drops after storms? We had that too recently when it was super muggy and a really bad storm went through, but afterward the temp dropped like 15 degrees. And the ugginess went away. 🙂
Ooh Chaos Terminal. I read the first one and kinda forgot this one was out.
Thanks Greg. Chaos Terminal isn’t out yet but I got the eARC. I love the low humidity days, often with a breeze, even if it’s hot it feels fine. My tomato crop is just ramping up. I have another BLT planned.
I might have to make one 🙂
I’m sure I can taste those tomatoes through the screen- they’d be delicious in a BLT.
Have a great week 🙂
My tomato crop hasn’t been great this year but there is nothing like a home grown tomato flavor.
Well Anne I am glad that weirdly the hurricane helped with your weather LOL And your tomatoes look absolutely delicious! Have a great Sunday!
Thank you Sophie! I love food from the garden.
I love fresh grown tomatoes on a sandwich in hot weather. Such perfection. I am hoping to start game nights with my family over the winter, I think that would be fun. 🙂
Shadow Magic looks good!
Thank you Erin. All the garden goodies are the best. I’ll be doing the fall plant in a couple weeks.
The tomatoes look nice. I’ve never been to an Aldi! Lulu looks relaxed. We had some rain here too this past week, I think it came in from the hurricane in Florida. Enjoy your week ahead.
Thanks Naida. I love food from the garden. We didn’t get very much rain. I thought we would get more, not even a day of all day rain, just a few scattered showers. Aldi is a favorite. They have good produce and meat, and several gluten free items.
What a busy week. It is starting to get humid here again today. I’m ready for Fall. Game night sounds fun. I’ve got so many books planned for September. I love seeing g Lulu!
Thanks Barb. Lulu is a star, so photogenic. I hope this week is the last blast of 90s for this summer. I always have too many books planned.
The tomatoes look delicious, and it’s funny because we had BLTs too one night for dinner this past week. I hope you can stay cool during the heat!
Thanks you Tammy. I hope this week is the last one for 90s this summer. I’m planning another BLT this week. 🙂
We had such a nice, cool week last week here and this week its back into the 90’s. Sigh. I’m over summer and ready for snow!! Of course, my husband waited until this weekend to mow and he is regretting it for sure.
I was sure yesterday would be more humid but I lucked out and it held for the extra day so I could get the lawn mowed. I hope this is the last week of 90s for summer. I’m not ready for snow. A few months of 60s-80s will be great for the fall garden.
Nice that you got a break in the heavy heat and humidity so you could work outside. Sounds like you kept busy inside, too. I made up a couple BLTs this week with our tomatoes that are coming in. Yay for scoring Chaos Terminal. I’m hoping to get approved, too.
Have a good week, Anne!
Thank you Sophia. I love the food from the garden. Sometimes I think I should just go to the farmer’s market but there’s something about growing it yourself. Our tomatoes are just starting to produce so hopefully I will get more.
I really should try to join in COYER at some point. I think right now I’d fail pretty miserably, though. 🙂 I hope your weather stays pleasant!
It would be awesome if you joined COYER. There is no failing. I’ll warn you that there is SO much now. But you can pick and choose and not do everything. It’s really about the people. In fact, you could just join the fb group and get to know the community without doing the challenge. Every month there is a readathon of some sort and you could just pick and choose what you might enjoy, the Drop Everything and Read, or book club, or the read-along, But start with just one thing.
I’ve accidentally gone out in my slippers more than once! The last time I was picking up my son from a party at midnight and he wasn’t answering my texts so I had to walk down their unpaved, very wet and muddy driveway. I had to throw that pair away after that.
31 books is such an impressive total!
Wishing you a great reading week
Thank you Shelleyrae! Luckily I just walked down the street and back but no doubt I looked like some crazy old dog lady. With the heat I was inside a lot and reading.
Hugely impressed with your total of 31 books in one month – especially when I take into consideration everything else you pack into your life!! And those tomatoes look fab – I’d put them in a vegan BLT:)). I hope the coming week proves not to be as hot as forecast and is a good one.
Thank you Sarah. This past week was great with lower humidity. I hope the upcoming week is the last one of 90s / upper 30s for this summer. Usually things start to wind down in September. I want to get my fall garden planted but not in this week’s heat. yes with the heat I stayed inside and read a lot. I didn’t think I would have as many because I read some long ones like Fourth Wing.
So glad your audio books are compelling!
I call dibs on the smaller, dark red tomato for my BLT!!!
Thanks Jinjer. It is easier when the books are compelling. I’ve had some more recently now which while well-written stories were heartbreaking.
A BLT with homegrown tomatoes is amazing! It sounds like you got a lot done this week. Here’s my SP: https://bonniereadsandwrites.com/2023/09/03/sunday-post-document-everything/
Thanks Bonnie. I’m going to have another BLT today as that last tomato is waiting.. (My daughter won’t eat tomatoes and has trouble with bacon although she like it)
Fresh air after a storm is bliss. I love it when the weather changes and you can actually breath again.
yes unfortunately we won’t get that storm for another 4 days. This week will be HOT.
Have you tried using the Meta Business Suite to schedule posts to Instagram? It works well for me and it’s free. Have a great week!
Thank you Jodie. I may check out the Meta Business Suite. Right now I use IFTTT to send my RSS feed to Buffer and Buffer shares to Facebook, Mastodon and Instagram. Instagram is a little trickier because of the image size requirements. I suppose the Facebook could go on to Insta through the Meta Business Suite. But I’m guessing MBS doesn’t grab RSS feed or post to Mastodon.
It’s been raining here a lot the past three days. My dog is not happy about his little paws getting wet. lol
I’m guessing you need the rain but Lulu would empathize as she is not a fan of wet either.
99F, ugh! I feel for you. My husband will be dealing with temperatures nearly that high all week, too (about 2 degrees lower.) I’m grateful it’s only predicted to be in the mid-80s in the Salt Lake valley (UT) where I am staying this week. By the time I get home, I hope it will have cooled off a little.
Great job on your reading for the month! And I see you got both the upcoming Jill Shalvis and Mur Lafferty books. I got the Shalvis ARC, too, but my request for the Lafferty book is still pending. I loved the first book, so fingers crossed!
Thank you Kara. I’d love your 80s.
Those fire alarms are sooo loud and jarring. It’s annoying when they go off for no reason. Your tomatoes look beautiful! What variety did you grow? I grew Brandywine, an heirloom, but I wish I would’ve done a more mainstream one too. Fresh tomatoes are so delicious and I eat them sliced with a bit of salt sometimes. It’s been raining here all weekend and cold. It’s finally tapering off now.
I hope to get a copy of The Bright Spot too!
Thank you Rachel. I was just glad the alarm didn’t keep ringing until I disconnected all of them because that’s what happened last time when they went off. They talk to each other and when they are all going it’s deafening. A couple of them on the ceiling require the 8 foot ladder too. I love fresh tomatoes. I had it in the BLT and the extra slices with salt. I’m trying to remember the variety I planted. The cherries were Sweet 100 and Early Girl for the tomatoes since I planted a little late. Now I have more beds so I can control the seasons better.
Are those roma tomatoes? I have some growing and got a good harvest this year. Even extracted some seeds to grow next year.
Have a great week.
Thank you. no they are Early Girl. I planted a little late and they are a hybrid with a shorter grow time.
Sounds like you had a great reading month in August. So many audio books. I have to get back to listening to them again. The Jill Shalvis book looks good. I always enjoy her books. Hope you have a great week!
Thanks Yvonne. Jill Shalvis is an auto read for me. It was a good reading month. Audiobooks keep me able to do chores and yet read.
We need some rain in my neck of the woods. Might be getting some Tuesday we hope. Sounds like a not fun week for that for you though. I really need time to sit and figure out how to have my posts update to other sites, but just don’t seem to fit that in when I sit down to blog. I want to make sure I go comment on other people’s blogs first! And I’m behind on that. Hope you have a good week, and as always I love Lulu pics!
Thank you Lisa. It took me awhile to get things set up to autoshare after Jetpack started charging. I’d used Jetpack the first 5 years and shared to Twitter and Facebook. That was all good. But now I am not excited about Twitter, set up an Instagram since it seems popular, and Mastodon. I use IFTTT apps to grab the RSS feed to send the posts to Buffer. They go easily to Facebook and Mastodon but Instagram sometimes needs a bit of intervention because of images. I also use Buffer daily to post to those 3 sites at the same time with book deals. I also use Dlvr.it to share to Twitter and Mastodon. It only allows 2 channels for free. If I could narrow down my socials a bit I’d be happier. I have a bunch now. I don’t know that it’s better and it’s definitely more complicated. But Twitter is going out of the picture at some point.
Yum! Your tomatoes look fantastic! Everything tastes better when it’s home-grown.
yes! I love having the garden. I’m doing another BLT for lunch today.
Strangely enough, I don’t care for tomatoes much but I know that my husband loves a good BLT. You had a great reading month! I can’t wait to read Jill Shalvis’s newest book. Have a great week!
Thank you Carole. My daughter doesn’t like tomatoes either, for her it’s the acidity. I was happy to read and stay inside during the heat of August.
Wow! 31 books. Great job!
Jill

Thank you! I was staying out of the heat and reading more in August.
I’ve fallen so far behind with my weekly update. It’s just been super busy. Hope you have a great week ahead.
Thanks Rolé, it’s a busy week for sure but I like what I am getting accomplished.
I’m so glad you didn’t have any problems with the remnants of the hurricane. You had a busy week otherwise and that photo of the tomatoes! Yum. Fresh tomatoes are my favorite part of fall.
Thank you. I wish we had gotten a little more rain especially with the heat that is following.
I got behind but had to come get my Lulu fix💜
Ooh, a new Shalvis book…adding! Hope you’re having a great week, Anne.
Thanks Jonetta. I’m having a hot week but it’s a good one. This week is all messed up with the holiday on Monday.
I can’t believe it’s already Wednesday… What happened to this week? I don’t remember anything about last week, but this week has been hot and humid for Northern New England. Probably some of the hottest weather all summer, after all the cooler rain we’ve had. Our long weekend was good – moved my son back to college, but enjoyed some down time, too. I’ve been listening to A Plague of Giants to participate in Hearne’s read along. I forgot how much I love this book. I’m looking forward to hearing his thoughts tonight.
The holiday Monday has messed up this whole week. And yes, it is the hottest week of the summer here, near 100 each day and the realfeel over 100. It looks like in a week it will drop 20 degrees to around 80 which is great.
Oh my gosh…I am so far behind in commenting. I took a break during my staycation over the labor day weekend. D:
It happens to all of us.
The humidity has been brutal. I am so ready for some fall-ish weather. We’re having BLT’s this weekend… but the tomatoes are not fresh from the garden, I’m afraid. Actually, I don’t care for tomatoes so my husband will have a BLT while I enjoy a BLC (bacon, lettuce and cheese). 🙂
I hope it’s going to be less humid also. This past week has been HOT near 100 most days and some humidity too. The upcoming week looks 10-20 degrees cooler but we will see how the humidity goes.
Tomato sandwiches are my absolute favorite part of summer! I got the Jill Shalvis book this week and am so looking forward to it. I’ve had really good luck with her last few books. I hope you’re having a great week!
Thank you Katherine. I love anytime we can eat things from the garden.
I do hate the humidity but love the rain–as long as it lets up for those walks! Chaos Terminal looks fun! I hope you are enjoying your week and reading! Take care, Anne!
Thanks Wendy. It was a hot week for sure, but I’m surprised how much we were able to do on days when the humidity wasn’t as bad.
