When the deadly werewolf Asil is gifted five blind dates by some anonymous “friends,” his reclusive life will never be the same.
Includes two all-new stories as well as three previously published stories.
Dear
We are worried about you. A werewolf alone is a sad thing, especially at Christmastime. So we have a challenge for five dates in three weeks. We have taken the work out of it and connected you with five people from online dating sites. You should also know that we have informed the whole pack and instigated a betting pool. Have fun!
Sincerely,
Your Concerned Friends
I love this world with the Alpha & Omega series and connected Mercy Thompson series which we read for the Read-along in 2020. Blind Date with a Werewolf sits more in the Alpha & Omega series, although it is a side book about one character primarily, Asil, the Moor.
I think this may have been a fun side project for Patricia Briggs. She read one of these stories in part at Dragoncon in 2017. So I already knew this would be amazing. As are all her books. The Dan Dos Santos book covers are stellar.
Asil is a very old werewolf. He managed to survive the death of his mated spouse, but has not been happy or very stable for a long time. He is in the Marrok’s pack, so there are strong wolves to kill him if he loses control of his wolf.
As a joke, someone sets him up with a series of 5 dates as a gift, since he has been so isolated. They are garnered from online dating. He has to stay at least 2 hours, not kill his date, and they can’t run screaming from the date. Somehow they are a series of hilarious situations with dangerous implications. Asil starts on the journey as a challenge and because he is perhaps a bit bored. It doesn’t feel like his control is really tested as he becomes a hero to protect these dates and show them a great time, even though many of them are in trouble.
I loved it. I loved Asil’s growth and his love of dancing, and his instinct to protect innocent others. I was happy to see him have some fun and perhaps find a new friend in the process.
Narration:
I confess I would love to have Patricia Briggs narrate her books, except it is more important to have her write them. I am collecting (buying) this series on audio, so obviously I like Holter Graham. He makes listening easy and comfortable, to stay in the story. I feel he does a good job with the different voices for characters and even some accents where appropriate. His voice for Asil is distinct and was easy for me to recognize. I was able to listen at my newer 1.7x speed.

There was so much to love about this collection of dates for Asil. I was glad he was getting his own stories because he is larger than life as a side character in earlier books.
yes this is an excellent collection and really builds the character, fills him out more for us.
Fantastic review. I never grow tired of this world.
Thank you. I always love every book
I was so thrilled with this story and will be re-reading by audio at some point!
I think it’s great in all formats
I really need to get back to this series. Wonderful review, Anne💜
Thank you. This series is easy to love.
I love Briggs’ books and am looking forward to reading this one next. 😀
Me too! Every book is a gift. I always love them.
I’m so excited for this one. It seems like it is going to be so much fun to read.
It is really fun. I like the expansion of the character who has played a pretty big part of stories in both Mercy Thompson and Alpha & Omega.
I like this cover! I need to read this author.
I highly recommend this author – one of my top 5-10 authors for a long time.
Can’t wait to read this!
It’s really fun.
I loved how this all came together for one big story with some important implications for the greater universe!
yes, what was initially some short stories was gathered into a brilliant book.
I’m currently listening to this – the last date is on it’s way. I have enjoyed this so far and getting to know Asil a bit better.
It is such a clever tale. I love this author.
I’m so bad about judging covers. I really like this one, but I’m guessing the story/writing is the same as in the books that never caught my eyes before, lol. It does sound good and as I read more of this type I might have to give her a try some day.
Don dos Santos does all her covers as well as the ones for White Trash Zombies. This story was amazing. It highlighted a side character who has been important in both her series.
