My name is Kit Morris, and welcome to my warped life.
Picture the scene: Me, an average guy with psychic powers—not that my abilities are in any way average—just trying to scrape by in a harsh world. So maybe I've conned a few people, but did I really deserve to be thrown in MPD jail alongside magic-wielding serial killers?
According to Agent Lienna Shen, one-hundred-percent yes.
But her hardass attitude and “Arcana prodigy” status aren’t enough to bring down my former best friend, who slipped through the MPD’s fingers and is days away from unleashing untold horrors upon the city. Or he’s going to steal something. I don’t really know.
Whatever he’s up to, that’s why I’m sitting in an interrogation room with Lienna. And that’s why I just offered myself as her temporary new partner for the purposes of thwarting my ex-accomplice.
And that’s how I’m going to escape. I might even help with the case before I cut and run.
The Guild Codex urban fantasy world is sizzling with excitement as the overall series welcomes a new main character who challenges the Spellbound sub-series’ Tori Dawson for a compelling lead figure. Kit Morris is an adorable rogue who had a tough row to hoe early on in life and stumbled his way into a bad crowd when a certain now defunct, but bad-customer guild was his first entre’ into the world of magic.
Like Tori, Kit spent his growing up and young adult life in a world where magic was unknown. In Kit’s case, he thought he was some oddball weirdo because he was unlike any other human out there. I’ll leave it as a pleasant surprise for others to discover just what exactly his magic forte is. But, let’s just say it’s a real mind-bender!
Anywoo, Kit landed in magical jail and had the book thrown at him. Sixty-one counts against him (and even one of the law officers thought it was rather extreme) plus he got a serial killer for his cellmate. Why ever would he stick around to let them hang him high and dry for small potatoes crimes and some honest mistakes?
Trouble is, Kit needs to help law enforcement catch up with his once-upon-a-time bestie because that powerful psychic is up to some seriously nefarious stuff. And, he really does want to help the rookie magic cop get this collar- without spending the rest of his life in jail or executed if he can help it.
Warping Minds and Other Misdemeanors is all told from Kit’s perspective and has a light, wry tone that is fun, but there is a bittersweet taste that makes sense when he gets comfortable enough to share his sad and sometimes dark history. So much about him starts to make sense and I was glad his reluctant, eye-rolling police partner, Agent Lienna Shen recognizes this along with his worth, even if its just for his encyclopedic knowledge of movies and movie trivia. I would so love to watch Casablanca with Kit!
Kit is a dashing rogue and I loved seeing him juke and jive his way out of tough spots and charm his way in others. The big money scene was abso-fab. And, the book ended with me revved to continue the series with the Books of My Heart read-along group. Urban Fantasy fans really must trot, don’t walk to get in on the Guild Codex world series, including the Warped sub-series featuring Kit Morris.
Narration:
I listened to Iggy Toma narrate. It’s been a while, but I am already a fan of his talented voices and ability to jibe with a book. He did a fab job of bringing Kit to life and drawing listeners into Kit’s exciting tale.

Yikes! I’m behind! I read the first one several years ago but didn’t read it for the challenge yet. Better see where I can get it. Not sure if I bought it, lol! Nice to see your 4.5 stars, Sophia!
Oh, oh, yeah, get on the stick there, Rachel! LOL But, I suspect that once you start reading, it will hook you in and you’ll fly through the books. I sure did.
Rachel, they are pretty short. The ebooks are KU but the audios are generally available.
If you have audible I think all of these are between $2.50 – $4.00 until 12/8 I think the deal ends on Monday. I picked up the rest. I still need to read the this one though.
I don’t, but wow that is a fab deal. Thanks for sharing it, Robin! Hope you like Kit when you get the chance.
Thanks for sharing the deal info.
As always, Sophia has provided a great review! Glad you enjoyed this one so well.
I really enjoyed Kit as a main character and his unique powers. I also liked his relationship with Liena and the way the two work together. Great review!
I like Kit and his movie trivia. His powers are exciting.
Nice review, SR. I enjoyed this one, but not as much as Tori’s POV. I look forward to seeing how the two series intertwine as we move forward.
Well the next 3 are Tori so that should be good. My favorite is yet to come, though.
So glad you are enjoying these Sophia. Such a fun, addictive series!
Thanks for joining us Kimberly. These are fun!
These do look fun!
They really are. We’ve only read 2 books and they are short if you wanted to join us. The audios are at libraries but the ebooks are in KU.
I missed this one. Wasn’t paying attention to the schedule and then I jumped to Dark Arts and a Daiquiri. That one I enjoyed a lot. My review will be coming soon.
Hopefully you can pick this one up. It’s short.
While I did enjoy Kit, I was missing Tori a lot in this book. But I will look forward to the next book with Kit too! Great review!
Don’t worry eventually they are all in the same book. I’m so glad you are liking Tori though.
