Hoarding all the knowledge of the world, the Great Library jealousy guards its secrets. But now a group of rebels poses a dangerous threat to its tyranny....

Jess Brightwell and his band of exiles have fled London, only to find themselves imprisoned in Philadelphia, a city led by those who would rather burn books than submit. But Jess and his friends have a bargaining chip: the knowledge to build a machine that will break the Library’s rule.

Their time is running out. To survive, they’ll have to choose to live or die as one, to take the fight to their enemies—and to save the very soul of the Great Library....

Ash and Quill is the third book in the Great Library series.  I started this journey thanks to Ace Roc stars. I choose to continue.  The world and the characters are familiar and dear. This is not a stand-alone; one needs to read the series in order. The knowledge of the situation builds as it goes along.

Tension filled me throughout this read. It’s exciting and interesting and uncertain. The suspense of what will happen is constant. It’s also frustrating, as each book ends after a particular situation,  but it’s still a sort of cliffhanger with not knowing if they will be safe or succeed on any of their goals. As with Paper and Fire, the ending throws our group into a new situation, so it gives me plenty of time to worry and freak out before the next book. You can read that review since I could repeat it here and it would be accurate for Ash and Quill. I expect the plot twists since almost nobody is honest and shares actual information.

Jess as our main guy, continues to grow and learn. He has very tough choices to make, uncomfortable ones. He has to mature and learn quickly to keep himself and his loved ones alive. Our brave group stays alive, but their physical and mental states take a beating.

There will be two more books in the series which can’t come fast enough. I feel it’s quite rude to want more when this one is just published, so I will practice patience. Since things are so unsettled, and they are dire, this would be a wonderful series to binge read. It’s all one story really.
