Nikolai’s life was going just fine—until he was betrayed. He’s lost his job, his family’s trust, and his purpose, all for the cost of falling for a pretty bear. Now his friends have turned against him and they won’t stop until he’s dead. The last thing he wants to do is join forces with the woman responsible, but she might be his only chance at survival.
Getting kidnapped and shot was not part of Claire’s plan—and neither was falling for the lieutenant of the very organization she swore to destroy. Now working with Nik is dredging up all sorts of unwanted, heated memories. She couldn’t resist him when they first met, and nothing has changed when she sees his handsome face again.
But when rogues threaten their families, claws come out. Keeping secrets might have been their job description, but they’ll have to come clean to beat their enemies.
At the end of Trust the Wolf, Claire is out of contact, probably in trouble. The next book in the Shift series, begins in time, right at the end of the previous one. Truth or Bear. Claire is part of the SANA world where a council governs shifters and protects humans. The Guard is against SANA which requires registration and rules. Nik is a lieutenant in the Guard. He and Claire have started something while she was infiltrating the Guard as a computer person.
Politics blow up and Claire is kidnapped. Nik is outcast because he tried to protect Claire. He never saw mistreatment of women as part of the Guard SOP. Claire and Nik are great characters and almost too good to be true. The reaction of their families in this political battle really showcases the way they were raised, and what their values are. Both have a great capacity for compassion and kindness. They each learn shocking things about the other’s organization as they get to know each other better.
Nik and Claire struggle with trust as they try to build a relationship. They work together to help others. We happily get to see Jason and Emilia, along with Zach, Mat and Kai, and other favorites from earlier in the series.
This series, so far is in Kindle Unlimited. There’s sure to be another book since the political battle is still raging and there are more shifters who need mates.

This sounds good, Anne! I haven’t heard of this author before, but I think I’ll pick up one of her books one day 🙂 Great review!
Thank you. She is a newer author and this series just started this year. I like the current feel with men and women both involved and filling a variety of jobs, etc. It’s not the heavy feel I get sometimes from PNR. There are alpha males but they aren’t heavy handed about it.
I’m not familiar with this series, but it sounds like something I would enjoy. Great review.

Thank you! It is a new author and the series just began this year.
Interesting how political intrigue plays such a big role in this shifter series. There are a some really good books on KU. I’ll have to keep this one in mind.
I’m really enjoying them a lot. They don’t have the old fashioned PNR feel – they are more current. The women have a brain and get to do things too.
This sounds good, the wolf on the cover threw me..but I will check out the series.
I hope you enjoy it. I’m liking the series.
A new author and shifter series for me. This sounds good. Thanks for the wonderful review, Anne.
I hope you like it as much as I did. It’s a newer series and I like the vibe of it. The women are strong partners.
Interesting and I confess that I didn’t know about it
It’s very new, just this year. I’m enjoying the series.
