I'm not a badass mage like my three smokin' hot best friends. I'm not a sorcerer or an alchemist, or even a wussy witch. I'm just a human, slinging drinks like a pro and keeping my non-magical nose out of mythic business. Seriously, I know my limits.

So why am I currently standing in a black-magic ritual circle across from a fae lord?

Somewhere behind me, my three mage friends are battling for their lives. Somewhere near my feet is the rogue witch I just knocked out with a stolen spell. And I have about five seconds to convince this very angry sea god not to shmoosh me like a bug.

I'm pretty sure this wasn't part of the job description.

A short review to update challenges

I continue to love the Guild Codex Spellbound series.  The characters are such a joy.  It’s not a hardship how many yummy men are in her life. I love the way the 3 mages have Tori’s back.  But I am absolutely giddy about her sass with Zach.  I have hopes he will be redeemed and manage to become part of the Crow & Hammer at some point.

Tori, as all good UF favorites is gathering her odd band of misfits as her allies.  She gains some new, really cool ones this time.  She loves her new world and wants to be fully part of it, not just a regular old human.  I hope she is able to build a better relationship with her brother since he already knows about the magic world.

There is huge battle with witches trying to control a sea fae. Tori has such a big heart, she can’t stand to see anyone mistreated and jumps into the action. Of course.  She ends up in serious trouble.   What a rollicking, rollercoaster of fun! There is minor progress on the romance background.  I’ll definitely be going on with the series.  They are in Kindle Unlimited currently but I’m listening to them on audio from the library.

Narration:

Cris Dukehart is a narrator I enjoy and she handles Tori wonderfully. I’m comfortable with her voices for both the male and female characters. The story is almost all from Tori’s point of view so it fits well as her voice in my head.  I am loving her performance of this series.  I was able to listen at my usual 1.5x speed.

About Annette Marie

Annette Marie is the author of YA urban fantasy series Steel & Stone, its prequel trilogy Spell Weaver, and romantic fantasy trilogy Red Winter. Her first love is fantasy, but fast-paced urban fantasy, bold heroines, and tantalizing forbidden romances are her guilty pleasures. She proudly admits she has a thing for dragons, and her editor has politely inquired as to whether she intends to include them in every single book.

Annette lives in the frozen winter wasteland of Alberta, Canada (okay, it’s not quite that bad). She shares her life with her remarkably patient, comparatively sensible husband and their furry minion of darkness—sorry, cat—Caesar. When not writing, she can be found elbow-deep in one art project or another while blissfully ignoring all adult responsibilities.
