The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.
Stacking The Shelves is also a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Marlene from Reading Reality. It’s all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!
Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar.
Sunday, I did my usual blog visiting and some email cleanup. I took a peek since college course catalogs were supposed to be available online Monday. And they were already there! I set right to work analyzing classes available, teachers with the best ratings etc, for Fall 2020. It’s really fun for me. I came up with a workable schedule. Hopefully we can get the classes. Monday I continued and did an analysis for Summer 2020. It will all be online and I would like my daughter to take one class. She just wants the time off. Even taking one summer class, she would have 4 weeks off, which is more vacation than I ever received while working. She finally talked to me and seems willing to take one class this summer. I’ll register for more in the fall so we can drop some if it goes to online and they aren’t good for online classes.
I’m struggling with some things and coming up with ideas on other fronts. I had some email convos with my team and we came up with some really fun Series on Saturday themes. I really love this concept anyway. I hope you enjoy some of them. It’s always the second Saturday of the month. It is on the Features tab so you can find all of them together. Watch for May!
It’s hot this week, mid 80s (25-28C) so I procrastinated doing my yard work until Friday when it would get back to the 60s (17-20C). Then it was SO windy and that made it colder. I went to mow Saturday but found the battery wasn’t charged for the mower. I got it charged enough to do the backyard. We’ll see if it rains tomorrow or Monday.
I LOVE the new feature on Overdrive at the library of asking you if you want a Hold or if you want to get it later, leaving you still at the top of the list. I can that way put it off a week or so if I know I won’t get to it and give others the chance to read it instead.
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality. These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):
Thanks so much to Harper Audio, Tantor Audio, Elizabeth Hunter, and Montlake.
(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)
I got The Girl Beneath the Sea for my Prime First Read.
Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.
I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.
I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.
If you like this and want to see me do the Sunday post, as often as I can manage, leave me a comment and let me know.

I hope your daughter gets a class she loves. With everything online..it’s amazing what you can learn. I learn a ton this week from a group of women who have virtual meetups on blogging on meetup.com Happy holiday!
I’m impressed with how responsible she is and how smart on the classes she has. One class had her tentatively planning out all her sessions through graduation and I was very happy to get that info and see her thoughts on different classes.
That sounds like a lot of work, but also interesting to analyze those classes and make a schedule planning. Hopefully your daughter can take those classes. The weather has been warm here as well, which has been nice for a change, but also quite sudden as it was much colder before this. That’s nice you at least got some mowing done this week in your yard. That new Overdrive feature seems very handy in case when you can’t read it right now and then still stay at the tops of the list when it comes back. Have a great week!
The yard needs more work but it’s going to rain now overnight into tomorrow. Maybe Tuesday I can do some more. Yes, some of the classes it will depend if it is online or on campus but I think she can take 3 classes this fall either way. I was happy to learn things like she only wants to take ENG111 on campus and not first thing in the morning. But this fall, that is when the best teacher is teaching it. So there are many factors. I enjoy analyzing to come up with the best fits.
I love the new Overdrive feature even though I want to read them all NOW.
What a lot of work choosing classes; I hope your work pays off. The weather is slowly warming up here on the East Coast; today may even hit 60.
Have a great week, and happy reading!
It doesn’t feel like a lot of work when it is fun. And I got some valuable info about which classes she wants for electives and other things. Now I also have a strong list of options so I know exactly what to take if it will be online instead of on campus and what to take instead if a class is full. I’m prepped for all scenarios.
Thank you. It’s been nice here in NC with only a day or so each week of rain and mostly pleasant temps.
I used to love scheduling my college classes. I had a whole grid system and everything! I was (am) a nerd, for sure! Hope you both have a great week!
I’m like you on that with a grid and everything. Her college website has a great tool and I was so glad one of her classes had as an assignment to plan things out to graduation. Of course things may change for any number of reasons, but I like having a tentative plan always. Now I know what she wants to take as electives and gen ed options, so it’s easier to search for sections / teachers for those instead of everything. Yes I really enjoy it. Thank you!
I always used to have fun choosing classes too. Summer classes weren’t a thing here though.
The Semi-Psychic Life cover is pretty cool.
Hope you have a good week and enjoy your books!
Thanks Nicci! With us home for the summer being likely, I want to give her something to do rather than just sit around. Plus since she ended up dropping a class it will help to put her back on track.
I always enjoyed setting up my class schedule as soon as it was available, too. Hopefully, it works out so she has a good summer course and the fall ones you gals wanted.
You are having some nice warm weather already. Glad you were able to get a mild day to cut the lawn. We still haven’t done our first cut yet since the temps stay low and the grass isn’t growing much.
I’m excited to see how the fun Series post goes, too. 🙂
Happy Easter, Anne!
Thank you Sophia! Sometimes the days all run together unless I have some fun things like SoS ideas or class planning. I like knowing now which classes she wants to take for electives and gen ed since some things are only offered at certain times and it make it easier to plan and get the best result.
It’s the second mow of the lawn. It’s going to rain now thru tomorrow so the edging will have to wait. I’m loving the pleasant weather.
Have a healthy, safe week! Happy Easter!
That sounds like a task and a half, working our the schedules for college classes. I’m glad you and your daughter have managed to find a way through the academic thickets! I hope you and yours have a restful Easter, as you deserve to put your feet up for a while, given how hard you’ve worked. Stay safe, Anne:)
Thank you! I love this college planning, both when I went to school and grad school and now with my daughter. It’s like a puzzle to get the best schedule with the best teachers (suited to my daughter’s preferences) Now hopefully we can get our first choices but even if we don’t I have the backup options sorted.
My daughter’s schedule isn’t coming together well. She has several classes that she needs to take that only meet one time and they are at the exact same time. I am sure that she will figure something out. It sounds like you and your daughter have a good plan. I wish I knew when regular school classes could resume! Have a great week and enjoy all of your new books!
Thanks Carole! My daughter has some definite quirks like no classes too early in the morning, she doesn’t want the first class of the day to be English. etc. But I’m happy she talked to me so I could factor those into the puzzle of the best plans. I’m worried because the Spanish class is only going to be offered TTH and the other classes I have noticed really fill up because it means only 2 days a week to campus instead of 3 MWF, so I hope she can get into those sections. We don’t want to have to go to campus 5 days a week. So I have backup plans. And we don’t know if they will be on campus or online, so I have which ones can work online. It’s a big batch of unknowns. That’s why I feel so unmotivated I think, with things being tentative.
At least I have great books and plenty of options for moody reading.
Online classes sound great. Hope your daughter does one too. Have a great week!
She’s in 2 now and will take 1 online class this summer. This fall she will take 3 classes but who knows if they will be online or on campus, and it will be different classes because there are some she will only take on campus.
Hope your class selection works out. And enjoy your newbies.
Thanks! It would be easier if we knew whether it would be online or on campus.
I am glad you were able to figure out a schedule for your daughter. I think one class for the summer is a good idea–and really not that much when you think about it. Plus with still four weeks off, I can definitely see your reasoning. I hope things are back to normal by the beginning of the new academic year, but everything is still so uncertain, isn’t it?
I hope you enjoy your new books! The Paretsky book sounds good. I read one of her older books years ago and enjoyed it.
I hope you have a good week. Stay safe and well.
My daughter agreed to take the class, it’s ART so it shouldn’t be too bad for her. And the registrar called this afternoon to help get things fixed. So it’s all good. My review for Dead Land will be tomorrow since I devoured it quickly. I am so glad to have some great books.
I loved researching courses and teachers for university. Glad you found something that worked for you. The Girl Beneath The Sea looks good.
Thanks Laura! I do enjoy it I have so many great books. I want to read them all NOW. lol
Glad to hear you enjoyed some nice weather and are having fun with evaluating college classes. It was a nice warm day yesterday, but we’re cloudy and rainy again today. Wednesday and Thursday we’re supposed to be up over 80, but then cold and rainy again. Very unusual for So Cal this time of year, but I’m enjoying the milder temps and rain. Plus, it’s good for my new garden.
I’m looking forward to The Silence. I think I should go back and read the start of Ava and Mason’s romance first though. I’ve got some time seeing as it doesn’t release until August.
Our weather here is oddly similar. 80 today and then 60 tomorrow. Up and down with a day of rain as the divider usually although it just rained overnight last night, both days were nice.
I loved figuring out the classes and schedule. And I plan to do the same with The Silence.
I hope your daughter is able to get the schedule she wants. My daughter is currently considering her options for study at university next year. Her first pick is a Bachelor of Science with a specialty in Forensic Science, but she’s also looking at a double major in Arts/Science (Criminology and Forensic Science), and Pharmacology too.
Wishing you a great reading week, good health and a Happy Easter ?
I was very worried about that too but the registrar called me today and helped me get the class she has to re-take fixed up. Thank you! I am grateful we have what we need and especially I have so many great books.
It’s always tough selecting classes, I remember finishing college. Good luck to your daughter 🙂
Thanks I enjoy the planning and we have it all figured out now.
I love the VI Warshawski character in the Sara Paretsky books. I have Shell Game still unread on Paige, my Kindle. Must move it forward!
I do love the Overdrive feature on my phone, and have one on hold. It is going to be a few weeks, though. I requested Megan Miranda’s The Last House Guest.
Enjoy your week and stay safe. Thanks for visiting my blog
I loved Shell Game and I hope you enjoy it too. I’m so happy to have access to great books thru the publishers and the library. Thank you!
Sounds like our weather has been very similar. It’s turned very warm here (well into the 80’s most days) but Friday was the anomaly. I think the high was 70? And very windy, too. It felt delicious outside! No we’re expecting rain/storms all week which I’m actually gad about. I love rainy days when I’m at home. I wasn’t aware of that new Overdrive feature. I’ll have to check that out.
The weather is becoming more volatile here this week with the ups/downs and rain cycles happening more frequently. I love that new feature. I think it’s automatic; I didn’t have to set it up or anything. I always have out about 5 books or more from the library and probably 10 or so on hold.
I really hope your daughter gets into the classes she wants.
The Kendra Elliot books looks interesting.
Stay safe and happy reading.
I think she will get her classes because the registrar called me today to fix up the one she had to retake. I really enjoy Kendra Elliot and Melinda Leigh.
I think it’s a good idea for her to take at least one class during the summer, especially given how weird this semester has been for everyone. I took Summer classes when I was in college and graduated in 3 1/2 years. Of course I had over-achiever syndrome and wouldn’t recommend people rushing it because it did burn me out. I LOVE Yasmine Galenorn and really need to pick up something by her again soon.
She is taking a summer class in ART so I think it’s all going to work out well. It’s only 1 class and the kind she really enjoys. I was on the overachiever thing also. I graduated early from high school. I did a double major (Accounting, Computer Science)and a minor (Music) in 4 years, also working 40 hours a week (10 hours lifeguarding and 30 hours in Academic Computing). I worked full-time summers at John Deere in their IT group programming. I was a ball of fire. I’m tired just thinking about it. And I took at least 6 classes every semester like Calculus, Intermediate Accounting, Probability Theory, Tax accounting, etc. People would hear my schedule and ask if I was insane since most wouldn’t take one of those classes much less 3 or 4 at the same time. I had all my music practice too with band, marching band, jazz band and both sax and piano lessons. I loved math and science and really everything. I wanted to know everything. And I’ve never been afraid of hard work.
I have some of Galenorn’s books but have yet to read one.
I always enjoyed researching classes and putting together course schedules too. That’s also great that your daughter is okay with doing one class. I always liked doing the summer sessions. What a fast way to knock out some credits!
Yes I enjoy it a lot. I’m glad she decided to take one class. She has done that in the past and didn’t like it with 16 weeks condensed into 8. But she’s taking an Art class so I think she can handle it. This way she can keep earning some credits while not doing other things.
I am glad that you were able to make some plans. It seems you are not the only one who started to mow the grass. All my neighbors had the same idea *smile* And with the warm and sunny weather, it was the perfect thing to do on a Saturday afternoon. I will check out your “Feature” button for sure. Stay safe and well!
The feature button is just an easy way to find certain types of posts. I use it a lot myself. I should have done more yard work yesterday but I was busy finishing up our taxes.
Sounds like you had a productive week, Anne! Good luck with those classes.
Thank you! It did NOT feel like a productive week but this week is!
Analyzing classes always makes me want to go back to uni Anne!
Me too! I’m still interested in everything!
How crazy has the weather been here in NC? At least we didn’t get snow. lol
It didn’t SEEM too bad but it has had a big range lately. Down to 38 tonight. More rain this week than the last couple. I did plant my herbs today. I’m going to wait until tomorrow for the tomatoes and flowers.
