Sunday, I had to use the heating pad for my back last night and a bit this morning plus some ibuprofen. Power washing did not make my back and neck happy. My daughter also woke with pain yesterday but seemed better after taking some acetaminophen. I wish so much I could manage a nap during the Super Bowl so I wouldn’t be so tired during the Olympics tonight. I don’t nap well in the daytime though. I am excited for the Read-along chat this afternoon. I found out that the Marvel series I’ve always planned to watch are leaving Netflix at the end of the month so I need to get on that. I’ve only watched 2 of 13 I think. I hope they aren’t 24 episode seasons! Did I mention how I love skiing and I was on a championship curling team my junior year of high school? I just really connect to these winter Olympics.
Monday, yes I am tired and cranky after staying up until 2am watching Olympics. Same deal tonight. If I decide I can miss the Men’s Big Air final I can go to bed at 11:30. My Instacart was kind of a disaster with bad replacements, a wrong item. It’s not the end of the world but remember I am crabby. The rest of the day turned out well because I stuck to my tasks and my daughter was feeling great and walked with Lulu and me. She took photos for me of the swans on the pond and the Little Free Library by our community pool and park. I did go to bed early.
Tuesday, I feel rested! I got up late. The weather is warming up this week and next. I am ready to get going! I need to figure out time to go through some emails with review requests from my regular sources. I noticed May and June are really full but I still have some flexibility in March and April. I even have some ARCs for July and August already too. We walked a new longer route, with an added loop taking us 2.4 miles, but the extra loop didn’t have a sidewalk.
Wednesday, I didn’t get up too early. I did the usual tasks. I took Lulu for a shorter walk because it was cloudy and felt cooler. I made a marinade for the pork tenderloin I’m grilling tomorrow night. I juggled around my reviews in May, as I got offered another ARC. I updated linkys for challenges. I went to bed earlyish but then I wasn’t tired yet so I started reading my book, … and finished at 3am.
Thursday, I needed to get going a bit earlier. The roofing guys came to look at the roof where we could still here the water coming down inside the fireplace vent. They redid that section of roof. It’s supposed to rain tonight so we will see how that goes. I took my daughter to a chiro / massage appointment. Afterward, we walked Lulu on a medium route. It was gorgeous and there were lots of people out. Lulu was SO excited. I couldn’t get my library epub book to read in overdrive (and I know I have done that before) but I got it to work in Libby. I typed up a pattern for a slipped stripe scarf, adapted from a circular pattern for the hat for my daughter.
I turned on the oven to preheat and something in the bottom of the oven smoked horribly and set off the alarms. My ex opened all the doors wide and thought Lulu was upstairs. Unfortunately, she ran out the front door and into the street. My daughter had been napping but luckily had just got up and ran out to get here. We were all shaken. She held onto Lulu for an hour and wouldn’t let her go. I was grilling the meat so I just put the sweet potatoes in a pan and roasted them on the grill instead. I sprayed the oven with Easy off and will clean it tomorrow. I have no idea what was in the bottom of the oven.
Friday, well the weather is starting out nice but with strong north winds it will drop 15 degrees over the day. I always have a bunch of things I want to do. But the contractors are supposed to show up and finish some details between 1 and 4pm. Well they came about 2 and did fix the electric switch, said the trim was still on order (since December) and that they couldn’t fix the drawer problem because that would void the warranty, that would have to go through Home Depot. I put the stuff back in the drawers since it’s not going to happen soon. Afterwards Lulu and I walked.
Saturday, I got going since I had a Walmart pickup order. Before that I ran into Aldi for just a few items. At home, I did some computer stuff, laundry, dishes and finally took the Christmas tree out. We only got it Dec 24th so I expected we would keep it awhile but not this long. It’s very windy and I’ve felt cold all day, so we didn’t walk. I’m glad it’s the last night of the Olympics because it is messing with my schedule.
I’ll be buddy reading the Psy-Changeling Trinity series by Nalini Singh with Berls. That’s 5 books. I think we both plan to read the audiobook version, one each week in March. I’ll get mine from the library.
- Silver Silence
- Ocean Light
- Wolf Rain
- Alpha Night
- Last Guard
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Reading Reality. These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):
Many thanks to Amazon Publishing UK, Mariner Books, AceRoc Books, Minotaur Books, and Berkley.
(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)
I bought these at the 2-1 credit Audible sale.
I “bought” these through Amazon First Reads for free.
Then a Chirp deal for $2.99. Then I used an Audible coupon (plus I already own the Kindle version) to buy the final Edge book for $2.49.
Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.
I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.
I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

The Olympics have kept me up late several nights, too. Sounds like you ran a lot of errands and had some good work done. Bummer some of the stuff is still on backorder. Whew, glad Lulu was brought back safe. Hope you were able to work out what was making the oven smoke. Way to go on keeping up your walks. Our walkwayss are still too icy, but I did do a lap that was cleared over by the library park path when I went to get my books and a mall walk this week when I was in the area picking up some stuff. Great haul! I got the Heroic Hearts and Rip Through Time, too.
Have a good week, Anne!
Thank you Sophia! I hope you have a good week and a bit warmer or at least not icy. We are supposed to be warmer around 70 the next 4-5 days but after tomorrow there will be rain off and on. I’m sure we need it. I still hope to fit in walks around the showers and to get to some other stuff since the Olympics will be over.
Its so nice to have a kid to go on a journey with you. That wasn’t the case last night though. My five year old had mt dew somehow and had been throwing up last night. It was insane.
My daughter is really very aware of things as she spends a lot of time online, watches lots of Youtubers when she couldn’t sleep at night. Her perspective is often insightful.
I only watched figure skating but it was crazy this year! Not only drama, but the amazing close scores and upsets. I can’t believe we have to wait 4 years for the next Olympics! Have a good week, Anne😁
I watched a bunch of different sports but many don’t make it to prime time sadly, like curling. But the summer Olympics is only 2 years away.
I’m so glad Lulu was safe, those sorts of accidents happen so easily. The lake looks amazing – your photos are fabulous. Good luck with the reading challenge – I have several series’ I need to finish but am on a book buying embargo until I clear some of my TBR backlog. I’m curious where you got the arc of Heroic Hearts as I’m seeing that book on lots of blogs.
Thanks Louise. You probably can’t see the swans on the lake I’ll have to do a zoom when they are closer sometime. I got Heroic Hearts on Netgalley. I peruse it every couple weeks for things I plan to read or to see if a release of a favorite author slipped past me.
You did have a busy week! I’m so glad that Lulu was fine. Some dogs just want to run! Have a great week!
That’s what was so awful – Lulu doesn’t want to run. She always wants to be by us. But she was afraid of the smoke alarm. Thank you Wendy.
I’m glad Lulu was ok!! I would have held on for an hour as well! I love Silver Silence-its my favorite in that series!
I was very shaken because she doesn’t seem to get the danger of cars although I have tried to train her on walks. I’m looking forward to starting Silver Silence next week.
I’ve been recording the Olympics and catching up on them later. I’m too old to stay up all night! I’m glad Lulu is okay. My previous dog would sprint out the door the instant it was opened. She was also excellent at escaping from fenced yards. She got arrested by animal control many times. I’m glad we live in a rural area without much traffic because I know she would have gotten hit by a car for sure.
Before the next round of Olympics I’ll have to set up my recording as I used to do that. I was thinking I could just adjust my schedule but that is rough. Lulu doesn’t even try to escape when the gate is open, she wants to be with us. But she was afraid of the smoke alarm.
Your books look good! The Locked Room is going on my list.
I am also friends with my heating pad. It stays close to my desk chair, ready to go. Although I haven’t needed it today! I have found some ways to sleep that are better for my back…like with pillows.
Enjoy your week, and here are my WEEKLY UPDATES
Yes I have pillows I use and sometimes the heating pad. I’m a big fan of the Elly Griffiths series.
Wow, what a week! That was so scary for Lulu, I’d have been the same way with holding onto one of mine if that happened. Glad she was okay and all was okay. Looks like you got some good books this week too. Hope this week is less eventful for you!
Thank you Lisa! Lulu was scared too or she never would have gone out the door. She wants to be with us. Yes another week another great book haul.
Sounds like you had a busy week. I’m glad Lulu was okay. That would’ve scared me too.
Thank you. It was the scariest thing to happen to us in years.
I’m glad Lulu was all right! It must have been frightening, having her get out like that. I hope your oven cleaned up OK.
Looks like you got some good ARCs and audiobooks this week. Enjoy!
Thank you. Yes the oven was all cleaned up the next day.
I’m glad that Lulu is alright and I do hope your back is feeling better.
Thank you Mary. We are all relieved Lulu is fine. My back was fine after a day so it’s all good.
I have loved watching the Olympics. Who knew I’d be so into the skiing events, considering I don’t, um, ski? lol. I watched some bobsled the other night too because I hadn’t seen ANY and that seemed weird… growing up, it always seemed like bobsled was on (with a lot of other things, of course).
I’m REALLY curious to see what Marvel does with those Netflix shows. Are they going to revive them? I hope so.
I’ll miss the Olympics but yes it will be nice to have my time back too lol!
I have skiied since I was 4 and in many places including Michigan – Big Powderhorn and others near Iron Mountain. I think all those Marvel shows are going to Disney. so they are gone at the end of the month.
We have had the Olympics on some but we have been watching more hockey than anything else. (Of course, I am usually reading while my husband watches.) It sounds like you had another busy week. I am so glad that Lulu didn’t get hurt! I am really excited to read Heroic Hearts and A Rip Through Time. I hope that you have a great week, Anne!
Thank you Carole. I am hoping for more reading time with the Olympics ended.
Quite a haul in books this past week! Best wishes and happy reading. My first round up is up!

yes I get some great reads.
I haven’t fully forgiven Instacart for switching Diet Coke for Diet Pepsi and haven’t ordered from them again! I hate a bad switch. I hope the roof issue is fixed and so glad your daughter was able to grab Lulu in time. How scary! We are big curling fans. They used to play it on one of the ESPN channels on Fridays and my husband and I decided we were going to figure out all the rules. We had the best time! I hope you have a wonderful week.
Thanks Katherine. I played on a curling team in junior high and high school and my team won the championship my junior year. They don’t show much of it in primetime. If you leave a message for Instacart, they refund a bad substitution. Also you can request No substitutions. I have done both.
Yikes! I am glad you got Lulu back safely! How scary!
That is really cool you were on the curling team! The Winter Olympics are awesome. 🙂
We were very upset.
A busy week for you! We have some mysterious stuff leaking from the bottom of our oven…
I’ve never got into the Olympics. So amazing that you used to be in a team! I’ve never been sporty. The best part about sports day at school for me was the ice cream van turning up 😂
Thankfully the oven is all cleaned up. Well I love ice cream too.
The last couple weeks have just passed me by. With the time difference and other things going on, I never watched any of the Olympics Live, and only a handful of events on replay. I’m bummed, but it is what it is. My girl and I started Daredevil a bit ago, but when we heard Netflix was taking it down, we knew that we wouldn’t be able to finish it, so stopped. It’s a bummer, but oh well. Maybe it will show up on Disney+ some day?
Our weather is so screwy right now. It has oscillated between near 60 and in the teens for the past week. Today I was walking without a coat in the sun. We are supposed to get a foot of snow on Friday. Ugh! We are heading to Florida next week and I can’t wait!
yes, the Marvel shows are going from Netflix to Disney. We have Netflix but not Disney so I’ve got to get to watching them. Yikes. Have a great time in Florida.
Sunday, I had to use the heating pad for my back last night and a bit this morning plus some ibuprofen. — DANG IT if I didn’t forget to put Advil on my shopping list!!!! Sorry your back was acting up.
I hope they aren’t 24 episode seasons! – How many did they turn out to be?
I’m glad it’s the last night of the Olympics because it is messing with my schedule. — Ha ha ha as the annoyance starts to grow.
That’s really cool that you were once on a championship curling team! I liked watching that sport the times I managed to catch it in former Olympics. Only saw highlights on the news this Olympics, mostly focused on the crazy-cool clothing of some of the teams. I would want to do that sport just for the clothes.
So glad Miss Lulu was quickly captured after she escaped!
Thank you Jinjer. The seasons are 13 episodes so not as bad as it could be. Still that’s 13 hours per season and only a week left.
Fun that you used to be on the championship team of curling back in school! I haven’t been watching the Olympics. I’ve been so busy lately it hasn’t been crossing my mind but that’s a good thing because I can’t stay up late and then go to work in morning.
I want Heroic Hearts just for Asil’s story!
Thank you Rachel. I am much happier with going to bed earlier and a more normal routine.
Ooo, The Locked Room is one I look forward to. Have a good week.
Thank you Sam. I am interested to see how Covid is written in it also.
Oh my goodness that must have been such a scare, I’m so glad Lulu is ok. Hope you have a great week.
Thank you! It was the worst. Lulu is precious to us.
Sounds like you’ve been quite the night owl lately! I’m so glad Lulu is okay. That would have rattled me, too.
I’m thrilled to be going to bed earlier and that Lulu didn’t get hurt.
That’s so cool that you were on a championship curling team! I have a couple of old classmates who absolutely love it. I haven’t watched it enough to make sense of it. I just get the idea that it’s something like corn hole or horseshoes as far as getting closer to a target than the other team. I’m probably completely off base!
We enjoyed watching The Olympics too but we’re glad they’re done and we can get back to our regular bedtime and shows.
How scary that Lulu bolted out the door! Poor thing. Alarms make me want to bolt too. I’m glad your daughter caught her quickly.
Enjoy your week!
Yes it is about getting close to the target but there is the science part of sweeping to control the speed and direction of the stone. That’s the best. I’m thrilled to be back to normal and that Lulu didn’t get far or hurt.
How is your back feeling? It sounds like you got some good rest in last week at least. 🙂
I was sad when I heard the Marvel series is leaving Netflix. We’ve been slowly watching the shows (re-watch for me mostly–first time for hubby) as he decided he wanted to see them chronologically. We won’t get through them before the end of the month so I am hoping Disney+ won’t take too long in picking them up. I heard it won’t be right away though.
Your new books all look good, Anne! I hope you enjoy them. Have a great week!
My back was fine after just one night, thank you Wendy. I’m trying to go thru the Marvel chronologically but I’m not much of a tv watcher so it’s too slow going. I haven’t seen them before.
OMG so scary about Lulu! So glad your daughter was awake and was able to get her in time!
I’m sorry about your back flaring up, I hope it’s doing better. And goodness, you need the Olympics to be over so you can start getting decent sleep again! I’m sorry to have missed it, but I couldn’t afford that sleep loss for sure. I’m so looking forward to our buddy read next next month (I’m also doing library and the first book is supposed to be mine on Monday!)
Hope you’re having a good week!
Thanks K. I am so glad Lulu was not able to escape. She really wants to be with us but the alarm frightened her. Yes I am glad the Olympics are over, but instead of sleeping more I’m back to reading more. lol My back was fine the next day. It does remind me of how this time last year I could hardly move and was in so much pain, basically for 5 months. I have twinges but nothing like that. I already got my library copy and am ready to go on Silver Silence!
Oh, my goodness, you and your daughter had to have been scared out of your wits when Lulu ran out the door! Glad things turned out okay.
Nice book haul this week! Good to see your pickup of another Cork O’Connor book. Enjoy everything, Anne💜
Thank you Jonetta. It was the worst. We don’t want anything to happen to Lulu.
