The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week, and showcase books and things we have received.
Don’t forget to look at my giveaways on the right sidebar. Hunted Giveaway ends tonight!
Sunday, well it’s hot and sticky again. This past week I stopped sharing as much to Twitter. I did my Sunday blog visiting. We had a good turnout and chat about Hunted for the Read-along. I wrote 3 reviews. I’m reading a non-fiction book which is a bit unusual. Heather Cox Richardson who posts on Facebook, also has a Substack, and is a history professor at Boston College. She has been a lifeline for me in these crazy political times as she shares the day’s news and the historical connections for the past 5 years or so. I read her Facebook post every single day. I’m reading How the South Won the Civil War. I have the ebook from the library and have bought the audio which she narrates herself.
Monday, today is a heat advisory but it doesn’t feel as bad as yesterday. Yet. I ended up listening to the end of an audio, then doing my normal computer stuff. I have a pickup order at Walmart. I was really into both the audiobooks I listened to today.
Tuesday, it’s supposed to be much less humid today but feels about the same to me. I should think about mowing the lawn though. My daughter is having more trouble so we are headed to the doctor this afternoon. The doctor made various suggestions and prescribed some ear drops. When we got home, the neighborhood electrician / plumber stopped in to look at the garbage disposal because it was making noise. He found there was stuff in it, nail bits perhaps from the window install. He fished out the stuff in about 10 minutes. So that’s solved and I don’t need a new garbage disposal. After dinner, it was just cool enough we took Lulu for a medium walk and the sunset was lovely. My neighbor took the second photo with the swans in it.
Wednesday, it’s a bit less humid again but still seems hot. Facebook is being weird and not showing comments on posts on the laptop but it works on my phone. I did some reading and visiting. I took my daughter to the chiro and did a return at Lowes and got a couple items at Dollar Tree. After dinner, we walked Lulu again.
Thursday, I am doing the usual blog visiting and email cleanup. Today the Amazon order arrived with the valance clips so I could finish hanging the blinds. My daughter and I worked on cleaning and hanging all the rest of the blinds, and valances. As a treat, I got takeout from Alpaca Chicken. It’s rotisseries chicken with sides like salads, hand cut fries, yuca fries, black beans, rice, maduros, and tostones. (You pick 2 sides).
Friday, it’s the last day for the wind from the north and the humidity a bit lower. I went out and mowed, trimming and edging the whole yard. I did computer work until dinner. Then Lulu and I went for a medium walk, no sight of the swans. I went to bed and got a good night’s sleep.
Saturday, I did the usual computer things. Then I did a major cleaning of the first floor floors, even inside the closets. It took hours and now the house smells a bit like disinfectant but I’m so glad to have it clean. I just have the master bedroom carpet, then the stairs and the upstairs to do, which are all carpet. This weekend is hot 95+F/ 35+C and it doesn’t look like we get a break in the heat until Wednesday.
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Reading Reality. These are the exciting ARCs I received this week (If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry):
Many thanks to Ace, Subterranean Press (there will be a less expensive Kindle version also), Thomas & Mercer,
(If you click on the cover, it will take you to the Goodreads entry)
I bought the audio version on sale at Audible.
Now the really scary one. This is all the Kindle and Audible freebies I grabbed this past week. You can see why I need to do Thrifty Thursday to be sure I read a few at least one each month.
I really meant to cut back on freebies BUT they are free so I guess that won’t be happening.
I’m not including things like reviews posted or upcoming as they are always in the right sidebar. And, my challenge status is also there.

That chicken sounds good. Beautiful pics. It’s been milder here- we were 78 today and breezy, not very humid, which is unusual for us in August. I wish I could send some of this cooler weather to places thatare sweltering.
Glad the disposal wasn’t bad. Hope your weekend is going well ::
Thank you Greg. I remember those days in Minnesota. By mid-August, it started to cool down. I remember an August 17th going on a party boat ride and having to wear my winter coat!
Yes, isn’t it amazing how much cooler it gets by the water? It can be really hot but we go over to the lakeshore (Lake Michigan) and it can be lots cooler.
I got a Lee Goldberg ARC this week as well – Calico.
That looks interesting. His Eve Ronin books have a bit of Hollywood flashy which is ridiculous at times but the police work is solid.
It seems that you got a lot of heat and humidity while we got…only humidity so far LOL
Yes today is a heat advisory. It will be some hot days for a bit.
Oo that restaurant sounds really good! And the weather here is not as hot but it is still pretty gross. I don’t like going outside, it’s just too humid. Wyatt gets overheated really quickly as well so we have been inside a lot more this summer. I’ve been using the time to catch up on household things as well.
I am glad that your garbage disposal issue was so easily taken care of! Win!
Thanks Erin. We do ok. It’s still a bit humid when we go to walk Lulu at night but not as hot. We are lucky to have a comfortable AC in our home so we are fine.
We have a similar chicken place here called El Pollo Loco, I love their sides. Those sunset photos are so pretty! Have a nice week, Anne😁
Thank you Tammy. I have seen those El Pollo Loco. Somewhere we traveled in the last couple years had them and it was in the list of options I made before the trip. My daughter will always choose pasta over everything else though. That means more Italian and Chinese/Thai options. I enjoy Mexican too and I get her to go there sometimes.
Glad you made it through your high heat and humidity days and got some relief. Nice that the disposal was an easy fix and didn’t need replacing and yay for getting up the rest of your window treatments and having snazzy clean floors. You knocked out so many tasks this week. Looks like you got a really good bookhaul, too.
Have a good week, Anne!
Thank you Sophia. It was a stressful week but I got things done. I was glad to get the mowing accomplished with lower humidity. Today is a heat advisory and it’s not going to break until Wednesday. Both the temp and humidity are up. More indoor work. I always love my book haul.
Another productive week on your end. We had a horrible storm Monday which triggered my storm anxiety which I can usually keep under control. But the rest of the week was quiet, just hot. It did cool down Thursday though and Apollo got 3 walks which made him a happy puppy. I’m convinced Kelley Armstrong is a writing machine! Hope your daughter feels better.
Thank you Barb. We had that break where I got mowing in but now it’s a heat advisory for a few days. Time for more indoor cleaning. lol Kelley Armstrong is prolific in multiple genres and other than the horror type titles you like, I love all her work.
The heat left us a bit this week! Tuesday the high was only 78! Now, the humidity was close to 100% so it didn’t feel great, but still. This weekend its been close to 90 though. It was nice while it lasted.
Well we didn’t get down to 78 but the weather pattern of a break and now the fires of hell is what we got also. It’s not that horrible and other places are in much worse shape so I have no right to complain. Especially when we have AC and a flexible schedule to walk during the day (night) when it isn’t as hot.
You and Mark C both got Lee Goldberg books this week – an author I’ve never heard of, but after reading the blurbs, I’ll get one from the library to try. And a new Kelley Armstrong! I’m going to go request it immediately at my library (even though I won’t get it for months….) Have a terrific week.

Thanks Terrie. Kelley Armstrong has really had some amazing books lately.
It’s starting to be hot here after a period colder so we’ll see how it will be.
Many new books for you. I hope you’ll have a good tile with them.
Thank you. I wait with longing for those days that are a bit cooler.
I deleted both my personal and blog twitters when it became “X”… It was the last straw of nonsense for me.
With heat like you guys get, I really shouldn’t complain about humidity but it’s so annoying over here too! It’s wet but warm enough that everything just sticks to you and your hair just wants to frizz and it’s hard to move or get to sleep, lol. I’m not a summer person so it’s no surprise that this all bugs me… Roll on autumn! I’m 100% counting down!
Hope you have a good week, Anne!
Thank you Nicci. I agree Twitter is nonsense now. I’m on the path. It’s hard I guess because it’s the first social I used and only one for a long time. There are connections there which aren’t elsewhere. The book twitter doesn’t seem much changed but my personal one with more variety of interests is a mess.
I like the 10 months of the year here which aren’t July and August.
Hello sweet Lulu💜
This heat is almost unbearable. I’ve been staying in and getting some quality reading time in and hope you are, too. Have a wonderful week, Anne!
Thank you Jonetta. I am getting some quality reading time. Lulu is more on the quality snoozing.
The heat hasn’t been as bad for us but we’re about to get a couple of days (Tue & Wed) of 98 degree weather. Of course the humidity is a lot lower here so it could be worse. Only one more month of summer! Those sunsets look gorgeous! It’s so nice to get intense cleaning done. It feels so good. I haven’t read the 2nd Rip Through Time book but I’m interested in that novella. Stay cook, Anne! 🙂
Thank you Rachel. At least we get shifts of hot to unbearable every 3-4 days so I do manage to get the lawn mowed. I think it’s only 3-4 weeks until it’s a shift to a bit cooler. That 2nd Rip Through Time book is amazing and I highly recommend it.
Such beautiful sunset pics. It’s been hot here but the mornings and late evenings are cooling off already I can feel it. I added How the South Won the Civil War to my wishlist, it looks good.
Enjoy your week ahead.
Thank you Naida. I think you are slightly higher altitude which helps with the cooling off at night. I hope you enjoy the book. I think she is an amazing author and the ebook is only about 275 pages so it was easy to read in a few days.
Your books look so good. I’ve been looking at that Lee Goldberg book. I’ll probably get it too. Hope you have a great week!
Thanks Yvonne. I hope you enjoy it.
I’m so tired of the summer humidity here. We’re having a rainy day, so it’s cooled down a bit today though. The chicken sounds good! I do need a new garbage disposal and am wanting to replace my sink and faucet, so had some people I used to teach with give me some handyman recommendations. Now I just have to make myself call them! Have a good week! Hope your daughter gets to doing better.
Thanks Lisa. I keep telling my that it’s only 2 months here, the other 10 months are great. We get weather in bursts or 3-4 days which are either hot or unbearable during these two months but it’s more than halfway over for this year. I get it. It’s very hard to call people and have to schedule them and have them in your home.
We are also experiencing a heat wave but thankful for the central air. Bichoned To Death caught my eye – I had a bichon and a bichon x that I still miss like crazy. Have a wonderful week ahead Anne.
Thank you Jodie. That book just looked really cute and I enjoy stories with dogs.
I hope your daughter is feeling better. Sounds like you had a busy Saturday!
Thank you Bonnie. She is doing a bit better but still has issues.
Did you know your About page is blank?
1 had been successfully avoiding almost all political news for months, but now the algorithm has caught up with me on TikTok and I’m starting to get new stations in my For You feed. Darn it!! LOL If there’s a way to block in TikTok, I haven’t figured it out yet.
Glad you didn’t need a new disposal.
Could you and your daughter please come help me clean all my windows and hang all my curtains now that you’re old hands at it? lol
Alpaca Chicken!!! What a cute name! I had to Google to see if they have an alpaca in their logo and they do.
Thank you. I’ll go look. The About Page didn’t used to be blank but I haven’t changed it in a long time. No we didn’t clean the windows, the installers did. We did clean and hang the blinds though.
I follow Heather Cox Richardson on Facebook too. I find her take on the country’s events really informative. I am glad you didn’t need a new garbage disposal after all. My husband tried to replace ours a couple years or so ago and ended up calling a professional because he was having so much trouble with it. We really did need a new one though. I meant to get some major housecleaning done today but it didn’t happen. Hopefully I can get a little bit done each day this coming week. I hope you have a great week, Anne! Enjoy your books!
Thank you Wendy. I just need my HCR every day. Sometimes I find it easier to do a bit each day and other times I find it easier to pack it all into one big day push and then be more relaxed the other days.
You had some beautiful sunsets!

Thank you. We aren’t out that time of night very often but it’s been too hot to walk as much in the daytime.
We’ve been under a heat advisory for a couple weeks now. It’s like walking in warm water . I long for fall.
I’m with you Laura. We are about 3/4 of the way through the heat suffocation months. By September it gets a little better.
That’s quite a spectacular sunset!
I should really do some cleaning before the warmer weather kicks in.
Wishing you a great reading week
Thank you. We aren’t often out at sunset but it’s too hot in the daytime right now. I always have cleaning I think I should be doing.
I love Carolyn Arnold. Hope you enjoy the book. Sounds like, all in all, a good week.
Thank you Sherry. I am always happy to get things finished.
Hooray for the downstairs deep clean. That had to feel good to have it done. The Alpaca Chicken place sounds delish. I love rotisserie chicken. Those sunset photos are simply stunning!
Thank you Tanya. The alpaca chicken is one of our goto places for good food gluten free at reasonable prices. and yes I was very happy to get that cleaning done. I’ve been taking a couple days off but there is more to do. I don’t see the sunset very often but this month if we go out to walk it’s late like that.
I couldn’t live in a place with high humidity. The dry heat is bad enough! I hope you’re having a good week.
I agree AJ. The humidity isn’t high here too often, and normally only July and August get so hot. But I thought it was worse (for humidity) in Minnesota.
It’s been hot here but it’s the humidity that’s really killing me right now! Hopefully we both start having better weather soon. I hope the eardrops helped your daughter and you are enjoying your week!
Thank you Katherine. The ear drops do seem to help. Only a few weeks of the weather I don’t like here. It isn’t always humid or hot. It seems to go in cycles of 3-5 days and then a break.
Those photos are beautiful! I hope your daughter finds some relief from her doctors.
I’ve basically cut ties with the former bird site. I have removed links and the ability to share from my own blog. I’ve removed the app from my phone (but didn’t delete my account). I only share other posts to Mastodon (and hopefully soon Threads will be an option). It’s sad in so many ways, and I know there are some who are still hanging out there, but I just can’t for my own mental health and emotional well being.
Oh, I forgot to mention this last week, but when looking for a mattress – I found the best way is to just go to a shop and try lots of different styles. Also, we have a store here that has some sort of machine that can help you figure out the best mattress based on your body and how you sleep. I’ve never tried it, but may next time we need a new one.
Thank you Jen. My daughter’s medical issues is a long term project but she’s doing a bit better now. I haven’t given up Twitter but I’m not sharing there other than my main post which goes automatically. I no longer share deals there. I’m phasing it out. I started my new Sunday Series meme which is what I’ve been planning to try to read some backlist stuff.
Nice collection there! They all look good.
And for looking for a mattress I will try a bunch of different ones. Heck I’ve even gone to a different store and will try the same brands there for consistency.
Thank you. I think we will have to go to some stores to get an idea. It’s hot enough I don’t want to do any extra shopping, maybe in a couple weeks. I can do more online research first.
Your sunset photos are gorgeous. We’ve been having the heat and high humidity here too and I’m just so over it and ready for fall. I hope you have a great week!
Thank you. The photo credit goes to my daughter and my neighbor. yes I am ready for it to be cooler. Either less humidity or even 5 degrees makes a big difference in feel.
It has been pretty nice here lately but it is supposed to get really hot next week. Your photos are gorgeous. It looks like you added some great books this week. I cannot wait to read James Butcher’s new book!
Thank you Carole. I agree! I loved The Aeronaut’s Windlass with all the hearts about 8 years ago now. I’m going to reread in prep for the next one. I remember it as being funny.
I’m behind on blog reading again this week, mostly because I was setting up my new computer! I love it. Sounds like it was a hot week for you. Here’s hoping you had more wind from the north this week to cool you down.
I hope things are going well with the new computer. Today and tomorrow will be less humid but then we will get more humidity and 97+ so the summer heat isn’t done with us.
