The upper echelons of immortal society have gathered in New Orleans, all of them curious to witness the joining of Gavin Wallace, the immortal business mogul, to the human woman who captured his heart. But behind the facade of immortal revelry, New Orleans is a city teeming with old rivalries, political maneuvering, and twisted secrets.
Invited to the marriage ceremony of their two old friends, Carwyn ap Bryn and Brigid Connor venture south, ready to relax in the company of Marie-Hélène Charmont, the vampire queen of the Delta, and four hundred of her esteemed immortal guests.
But when Gavin asks Brigid and Carwyn to look into a mysterious man stalking his human employees, they’re unprepared for the tangled web of deception they uncover. Tug on the wrong string and centuries-old alliances might fall apart.
In a tenuously balanced society full of apex predators, even one slip can prove disastrous.
The main characters of this new Elemental Covenant series, Carwyn and Brigid, were the romance in the first book of the Elemental World series, Building from Ashes. Elemental World series is a spinoff from Elemental Mysteries series. So this new series is a spinoff of the spinoff.
I really like this series with its mysteries and especially helping the underdog and bringing down bad guys is my favorite. Paladin’s Kiss is a bit different than the others in the series. The story is that of a vampire to human wedding which is a huge affair with lots of our favorite characters in attendance. There is also a problem in the groom’s new business venture. Carwyn and Brigid are the perfect ones to investigate because they are neutral and not beholden to any faction, so they can find the truth.
The wedding is that of Gavin and Chloe. They are lovely and close to many of my favorites like Ben and Tenzin, Giovanni and B. They are based primarily in New York but the wedding is in New Orleans and is being planned by Gavin’s new business partner. Brigid is not all that excited about the wedding parties so she is happy to have a mystery to solve.
The human software engineers working on the new vampire software project are being stalked. One left the project and went back to where he lived before. Brigid and Carwyn have to be careful investigating because of tricky vampire rules. It is likely about the new business but it could have to do with the humans. They look into possibilities like the vampire family who Gavin did not chose to partner with him and also the vampire who has the current software that most vampires use.
The highly skilled humans are fragile and they have to protect them. The original stalker turns up dead. Another team member vanishes. Carwyn and Brigid follow the evidence and narrow it down but it is harrowing for the humans and the vampires.
I always enjoy this author’s books and this team really solves the mysteries with compassion. I’ll be interested to see where Carwyn and Brigid bring justice next.

Here’s another series I need to read! Glad it was a hit, Anne! Wonderful review. 🙂
This author is a favorite and I read all her books. I like some better than others. This series is one I like better. The mysteries appeal to me.
What a fun mystery. I’m so glad you enjoyed it and the series.
These are a different genre I guess paranormal mystery. It’s not exactly UF because the story arc is completed in the book and the same couple so not a new romance. But I really like this series.
One of these days, I would like to give her books a try.
I really enjoy her work and have read almost every book she has written. I highly recommend her work. There are several genre areas so you could find one you like pretty easily. She has some freebies every now and then. There were 2 earlier this week.
I really need to get back to her books
They are really good.
This sounds like a great mystery with a team of characters that I would really enjoy. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it!
She’s a favorite author and writes in interesting shades of genre.
Gah I am so behind in commenting.
This series sounds really good.
I highly recommend everything by this author.
