I have wanted to read this Georgina Kincaid series for a long time. A large number of friends read this when it was originally released and rated it highly. I didn’t know much about the story or characters, just that it was urban fantasy which is a favorite.
Georgina is a succubus living in Seattle. Her “day” job is as an assistant manager at a book store. Her supernatural work is to take a bit of life force for the demons (through sex). She has a conscience and only fills up with bad guys, and doesn’t kill them. Men of better moral character provide higher quality life force but she’s unwilling to shorten or reduce their lives.
Succubus Blues is a first book in a series and has that feel and the usual issues I have with them. I didn’t feel weighed down by the world building; I just didn’t feel like we got very much. I don’t understand how Georgina knows so little about her own world, so there is much yet to learn in future books.
Georgina has some men interested in her but she doesn’t date because she can’t stay with one man and take too much from them. Her favorite author moves to town and she really likes him and wants to get to know him. Then there’s another guy she’s just met and somehow is struggling not to date. She lets him talk her into too many things.
There is also someone hurting or killing supernaturals in town. For the little she knows about the facts of supernaturals, she tracks down a lot of information. Georgina doesn’t like seeing her friends hurt. She also becomes better acquainted with some she didn’t know as well previously.
There are some flashbacks to when Georgina was human. Over the course of the story, we gradually learn how she became a succubus. She is more honorable than most demons, and wishes for a more normal human life with her own man to love. So it was interesting to learn why she traded her soul and life to work as a demon, and be immortal.
Narration:
I don’t believe I have listened to this narrator previously. I liked her voices for both males and females and they sounded appropriate. Her performance added to my enjoyment of the story. I was able to listen at my usual 1.5x speed.

I read all types of books but my favorites are urban fantasy and romantic suspense.I like some romance and some action / adventure / mystery in everything.I like sex in my books but please, only between TWO people.Intimate conversation is equally important to the sex in a book.It lets me see the characters.The other thing I enjoy is humor.

I enjoyed this series when I read it. I thought each book got progressively better. I was happy that I didn’t have to wait between books once things got rolling because of those endings were intense.
I saw your Goodreads review of this one along with many other friends rating it 4-5. Melanie didn’t like it. But I’m glad to hear they get better because I plan to read on in the series.
I considered snagging this when I saw it was up for audio review. Wish I had, but also want to wrap up some other series first. Glad it started off good for you.
The whole series got renewed at once. I’ve always heard good things so I got the rest of the series while I was at it but I told the publisher I would only do about one a month.

I only requested this one but Berls convinced me to get the rest and buddy read them with her. I’ve always wanted to read them and it’s kind of a short series for a Read-along so I’m continuing.
