Hadley owes a wicked fae seven beating hearts, Boaz and Addie are coming for a visit, and her city is going up in magical flames.

Betrayal and heartbreak. Chocolate and sentient shadows. Just another night in Atlanta.

I loved the Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy series. They are all on Kindle Unlimited as well as this new series, The Potentate of Atlanta. It is with some characters from the original series. Hadley, ie. Amelie,  is now living in Atlanta training to be the POA.

Proof of Life is similar in situation to the previous book.  There is still the battle against the fae coven.  There is some evidence of a mole. I guessed before it was revealed but not right away.  Hadley and Midas are now living together and their daily interactions are expanding their connection and confidence in their relationship.   They work better as a team now.

Hadley ends up sharing more of her secrets with Midas and his family.  It improves her connection with Tisdale.  But visitors come to town, first Boaz and Addie, plus Boaz’s parents.  That is a distraction providing emotional turmoil, and people who need to be protected.  We get to see a bit of Grier and Linus (yay!), as they also come to visit.

Hadley learns a LOT.  She gathers information on the fae coven and their problem is even more serious than she thought.  She learns about her connection with Ambrose and more ways it will affect her life.  Nothing is finished in the longer story arcs,  it’s more of a “happy for now.”  And I’m not talking about the romance.  I thought this might be the last book in this series but obviously it is not.  I’ll look forward to learning much more about the different characters. There’s definitely a personality and sense of humor I recognize now in many of them. And there’s the looming war with the fae coven.

Narration:

Rebecca Mitchell is so enjoyable and  I am comfortable with her as the narrator.  She performs male and female voices well. However, all the female voices are very similar and the male voices are mostly alike also. I barely distinguished her Hadley from her Grier voice.     I listened at my normal 1.5x speed.

About Hailey Edwards

Hailey Edwards writes about questionable applications of otherwise perfectly good magic, the transformative power of love, the family you choose for yourself, and blowing stuff up. Not necessarily all at once. That could get messy. She lives in Alabama with her husband, their daughter, and a herd of dachshunds.

Did Boaz ever redeem himself? He was the primary reason I stopped reading the original series. LOL.
