Thrifty Thursday: Alien Edition @CaraBristol @AnnaHackett #ThriftyThursday #Challenge #Giveaway

The purpose of Thrifty Thursday is to read a book which was free (at some point).

This is a genre which many of my team have read and reviewed books. This is a collection of freebies I have read in the romance genre which didn’t fit in with any Series on Saturday theme.  But with Valentine’s Day this month, I thought I would collect them here.

To escape a stalker, Delia and her imaginative, impressionable daughter flee to a small town where nobody can find them. She’s concerned, but not overly so, when her daughter says she’s invited an angel to her birthday party.

Until the winged alien actually shows up. After a rocky start, Delia begins to see Wingman for what he really is—one of the kindest, most protective, sexiest men she’s ever met.

The next book in the Alien Castaways series, after Chameleon, is Wingman.  It is in the same world as the Intergalactic Dating Agency series.   Wingman benefits from the relationship Chameleon developed with a human, so he is better able to fit to human customs of dating.  It’s not that he would do anything bad but he is from a different culture.

He saves a young girl from being kidnapped which leads to meeting her mother, Delia.  They connect at another event and start dating.  She has some people from her previous location who were stalking her so Delia is cautious for herself and her daughter.  The daughter is a trip.

I enjoyed how Wingman not only protected them but also worked to make them comfortable and happy.  These aliens are really good guys and treat others well.

Something far more sinister appears to be keeping her a virtual prisoner. He’s certain his psychic powers can unlock the secrets in Cassie’s mind.

The third book in the Alien Castaways series, is Psy.  It is in the same world as the Intergalactic Dating Agency series.  Psy benefits from the experience of Chameleon and Psy but he has a more difficult road.  He falls for a young woman, Cassie who doesn’t speak.  She is in her mid-twenties and finally has taken a job in an antiques sort of store to have some independence.  Her mother is rather controlling about what she does and who she sees.

The shop owner and Psy are not fans of the mother, but Psy is willing to give her the benefit of the doubt  After all, she is protective because she loves her daughter.  But Psy learns more, he thinks Cassie could overcome her speech issues because she can make sounds.  He believes she is his genmate and he wants to help her.  They are happy in their relationship and dating. Cassie hopes to be able to get her own apartment and be her own guardian.

When the mother decides to move out of town, and pull Cassie with her, Psy looks into their history. He loves Cassie and wants to help her.  It’s a difficult situation which Psy figures out with the help of his friends.

Fighting for love, honor, and freedom on the galaxy’s lawless outer rim…

Now he rules the arena, but he doesn’t fight for the glory, but instead for his own dark purpose—revenge against the Thraxian aliens who destroyed his planet. Then his existence is rocked by one small, fierce female fighter from an unknown planet called Earth.

Harper is determined to find a way home, but when she spots her best friend in the arena—a slave of the evil Thraxian aliens—she’ll do anything to save her friend…even join forces with the tough, alpha male who sets her body on fire. But as Harper and Raiden step foot onto the blood-soaked sands of the arena, Harper worries that Raiden has his own dangerous agenda…

The situation here starts out kind of scary with space ships attacking other ships abducting people as slaves.   Harper is a space marine but it’s still a rough situation.  She ends up at a gladiator auction and has enough fight to be purchased. She wants to go home and not be a slave.

Radian is a champion gladiator.  He doesn’t fight for glory but against the Thraxians who destroyed his home planet, also the ones who abducted Harper.  He’s attracted to the plucky human fighter.   The relationship feels a little fast but I felt their connection.

Harper and Radian learn about each other and their similar values as they fight as gladiators. I really liked the camaraderie of the fighters, their training and skills.  The story is heartwarming in its found family although the environment is brutal.

Starr was wrongly convicted of murder and then sent to the planet Dakon.  The other women on the ship apparently are criminals and had a choice to go to prison or to be a possible mate to the alien men on Dakon.  Dakon was hit by an asteroid and lost technology. There was also a virus which killed many of the females and meant less are born.  To save their species, and to have a female partner,  they are now pairing up with humans they call Terrans.

Starr plans to not agree to be with the alien but in addition to having no where else to go, the man is hot.  Torg is an honorable guy leading his clan.  Women are revered because there are so few.  Torg does everything to make her comfortable and happy.  I enjoyed watching them work through their various cultural differences and personal styles to make things work for them.

The whole mystery about Starr’s false conviction was suspenseful.  Her making friends with other women was fun.  Andrea was a hoot.  I enjoyed seeing the community and relationships develop.

How insane is it to marry an alien as a publicity stunt?

I’m Sunny Weathers. You probably recognize me from my reality show, Sunny Weathers’ Excellent Adventures. I’ve had to perform a lot of crazy stunts in my career, but this one takes the cake! The producers are sending me to another planet to become an alien’s mail order bride. I’m not allowed to tell anybody it’s a gimmick, and as soon my contract is up, I’ll be leaving planet Dakon. Unfortunately, I hadn’t counted on my attraction to Mr. Tall, “Darq,” and Handsome…

I’m Darq. The moment I laid eyes on the female with pretty mud-colored hair and a sunny smile, I knew she was mine. Competition for females is fierce, and I was determined to claim a mate from the latest shipment from Earth, so I broke the rules. If anyone finds out, my own brother would banish me to the icy wilderness, and I’d lose my mate. I will do anything to keep her…

Sunny is a reality vid star on Terran.  She supports her sister and nephew, Stormy and Devon, which means she does some crazy things to afford Devon’s health care.  But the company and her agent have really used her in this ploy.

Darq is the brother of Torg who was mated in the previous book.  He appreciates the relationship they have and would like his own mate.  Things keep improving on Dakon with more technology and better women (not convicted felons) being sent to the planet.

Alien Attraction is completely ridiculous and yet fun.  Sunny and Darq have the best intentions and really do like each other.  Sunny’s company is beyond manipulative and she works to figure a way out. Darq and Sunny are caught up in rules of one planet versus another.  Things get pretty dire before they are settled but Sunny and Darq remain true to each other.

These are only Kindle freebies I get, or ones through author newsletters which anyone can sign up and get for free. I don’t include things like Kindle Unlimited or Prime Free Reading (I do have it). Both Tantor and Audible have occasional free audios (to anyone) and I do include those.  Since I one-click on 1-2 freebies a day or probably at least 5 a week, I came up with this feature to make sure I start reading them.

I can't really remember any time when I wasn't reading. I LOVE books and what they give me. It's an opportunity to learn new things, see new places,live different emotions in a "safe" way. It lets me live in a new world.

I read all types of books but my favorites are urban fantasy and romantic suspense.I like some romance and some action / adventure / mystery in everything.I like sex in my books but please, only between TWO people.Intimate conversation is equally important to the sex in a book.It lets me see the characters.The other thing I enjoy is humor.
